"We Elevate People Like Jimmy Savile!" Andrew Neil On 'Vulgar' Russell Brand

  • Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by former Editor of The Sunday Times Andrew Neil to react to the allegations Russell Brand is currently facing and the questions that need to be asked for media outlets historically platforming controversial people such as Jimmy Savile and Brand.
Andrew explains that the UK has a weird knack for elevating people who are 'not talented' and are flawed characters, using Jimmy Savile as an example. Andrew also adds that his 'vulgar' performances were enough to warrant concern alone, outside the rumours of how he treated and spoke about women as well.

Andrew Neil whom I admire and respect enormously is absolutely spot on in what he says here.
Can’t bare the odious narcissistic cocky and arrogant Brand! He is neither funny or a pleasant man. Hate the way he looks and hate his voice. Ludicrous how he has managed to be elevated by swarths of fans thinking he is somehow wonderful. Says a lot also about the type of person who follows him on social media and finds him funny and wonderful. Whether he is guilty of what he’s been accused of remains to be seen but with four women claiming this and more coming out and from what we know of him, all well documented, none of this would surprise me in the slightest. Let’s hope the authorities feel there’s enough there so he ends up in a court of law! That should take the smirk off his annoying face.

We also elevate people such as Kobe Bryant who was allowed to continue playing for the Lakers while under investigation for an allegation that was made contemporaneous to the incident (Benjamin Mendy and Mason Greenwood fans take note!).
The allegations were credible and there was physical evidence. He issued a public statement acknowledging that there had been no consent once the victim withdrew her cooperation from the police investigation (causing the case to collapse), and Bryant was rewarded promptly with a $billion contract with Nike, which still has a range of Bryant goods, I think.

Neil is correct about the pernicious model of celebrity worship we've adopted here in the Anglosphere which effectively rewards and elevates the dominant, narcissistic personality, the leader of the gang. The worst aspect of it is how this feeds into our broader general culture and sets the tone, so that every office in the land has become a Poundland version of this dynamic in microcosm. A teenage high school canteen with competing personalities vying to be top dog. However, I would disagree that such swaggering egos lack talent, something which at best eludes definition. The fact is these people are found by the masses to be 'entertaining' precisely because of their narcissistic personality traits one might argue, and such dark charisma comes at a price. Such personalities strike those very instincts within us which, ever since martyrs were thrown to the lions in the Colosseum, demand satisfaction. In a commercial environment, Brand was doing precisely what he was paid to do, to entertain. AS with a nice side-salad, the respectable figure, the moral figure, may be good for us, but alas that isn't often what we want. We find them 'boring' and we do need entertainment to feel alive I'm afraid. Civilisation is a delicate balance and hard to get right.

Honestly, this does look like a case of honest old-school type of investigative joirnalism. And I'm no fan of the modern mainstream media, just to be clear.
I appreciate Piers' take on covering this story. So far stayed very impartial, didn't jump to add onto the public humilitation of Russel, but also didn't undermine the weight of the accusations by the alleged victims.

Women who come out with sexual allegations *decades* after the alleged "fact" should NEVER be taken seriously in any society regulated by the right of Law; in any society that values Justice and has an ethical foundation of some kind, for that matter. On the contrary, they ought to be immediately placed under scrutiny for defamation.
You say you have been molested (or worse)? Why didn't you report the crime immediately? What is your justification for waiting 10, 20 years or more? Where is your hard evidence? Wounds? Bruises? A formal statement from a hospital? Where are your witnesses? *Credible* ones, not a bunch of other women like you who "forgot" all about it for decades, only to pop up now and cry "me too!". Can they prove they *actually* witnessed the fact? Can you prove anything at all, for that matter?
99% of the allegations made by "me too" and similar movements turned out to be utterly fabricated. Women accusing men of sexual misconduct are at the top of the list in every statistic of false reporting of crimes, everywhere in the Western world.
And don't even get me started with "most women don't report sexual crimes for fear of not being believed and for fear of being shamed": women's allegations are taken at face value, nowadays; where do you think we are living? Afghanistan? In the Middle Ages?

Since when has being 'vulgar', 'vile', 'lascivious', 'salacious' or whatever other term people may call Russell Brand, equated to that same person being a rapist or sexual deviant?
This disgustingly pious and puritanical attitude Neil has about Brand is sickening. If we are to consider his pathetic viewpoint seriously, that would see Jimmy Carr imprisoned tomorrow, as his act contains a plethora of paedophile and rape jokes.
Talking about something and actually engaging in it are two different things. Brand is a natural flirt and always has been. He has been painfully honest on every aspect of his character, even the uglier side, and this whole situation is clearly an attempt to end his public profile.
What rape victim waits for a decade before telling anyone about it.... and what rape victim who wants to report the rape, heads straight for Channel 4 and not the nearest police station?
Anyone who actually believes there is an ounce of truth in any of these accusations is obviously a simpleton.

That's right Piers Morgan, Russel Brand has a huge fan base, because we find him hilarious, Russel elevated himself, he pulled himself out of addiction, developed a comical act adored by many, but most of all, these days he's an activist, counterculture, offering a platform to shed light on everything politicians and journalists want to sweep under the carpet. He has a brilliant mind and helps many work their way out of active addiction. Using journalism to influence public opinion, against Russel, is all you can come up with. Yes Russel has been been vulgar, so what, he isn't a hypocrite. As it stands now, Russel Brand is innocent until proven otherwise. No you can't compare Weinstein and Saville to Brand.
