The Moto G Stylus is the latest mid tier android phone from Motorolla. It has the added benifit of being the cheapest smartphone to ship with a stylus in recent years. in thi review I talk about the phone, the drawing experience and what the apps are like for creating digital art.

@@thebradcolbow can you also do a review of the LG V60? It has active pen support and a dual display (the pen will also work with the dual display). So it is the only device right now with a folding experience with pen experience at the same time. The combo is a bit pricey but it will likely be cheaper than the next note or fold.

I'm not an art guy but your review popped up in my feed LOL. I've had this phone since the day it came out and I really do like it. I have generally had high-end LG phones and finally decided I'm just not paying that much money anymore for a phone. I have had zero problems with my Moto G stylus and I have been very happy! The two features that I don't hear a lot of people talk about much are the 128 gig memory which is fantastic...and also the stereo speakers. I really didn't think stereo speakers would make that much of a difference but even watching your video and holding my phone in landscape mode...the stereo speakers just make the experience so much better. There are other features Moto phones have had for years that I find I will never be able to do without now. When I go to bed - fiddling with all the volumes on the phone to turn everything down is done! Just turn the phone over flat on its face and everything is in do not disturb mode. Doesn't seem like a big deal but how did I live without that? Also the two shakes of the phone launching the flashlight? Brilliant! The two twists of your hand launching the camera? Yes! Again, not really features that artists might be craving but they are awesome! Two thumbs up!

WOW, I honestly loved this video. I am not an artist but was needing a phone and have always enjoyed having a stylus. It was so refreshing to watch a phone review from the perspective of a more normal consumer instead of someone hyper-focused on specs like most phone reviews. You said exactly what I've been feeling for a couple years now mid-range phones and flagship phones don't have a massive gap anymore, yet somehow most tech channels will make it sound like there is a night and day difference, and honestly, there is not. Everything on it is good enough and at the price, it's hard to find a real fault. I've seen so many videos reviewing midrange phones and they always talk about the performance like it's massively slower and it's not unless you do a super scientific measurement most people will be hard-pressed to notice a difference anymore. Thank you for being so real about this

One thing i discovered recently was that combining a 3D Touch iPhone with an active stylus is actually a pretty decent drawing experience. The active stylus is small enough to feel more like a pen, and 3d touch can simulate pressure. It worked shockingly well with Artstudio Pro.

I've had both Android phones 📱 and Apple 🍎 phones 📱. And altho I prefer a Droid, the functionality, OS, Speakers, and Overall quality of the phones are just better with the Apple 🍎. The only disadvantage of 🍎 is that it costs too much damn money 💰

I think Brad Colbow is the man in the niche of letting us artist know what is key to buying your art electronics to being a digital artist. He has helped me make the decision as to which software and hardware I should buy to being an artist. I currently do art because it calms me down and it is a hobby. Just recently I have started my own channel which offers Drawing Digitially tips and hints from my past. This is way outside my comfort zone as I do art as a hobby but have been requested to share how I create many of my images so I decided during this locked in my house time to build a new channel. Would love to hear other artists opinion so drop by my site if you are interested.

Good general review for the phone! I was looking for a review that focused on the pen and apps for the pen. Many who read this might be deciding on whether to get the Moto G Power or this Moto G Stylus. I like the unique blue color of the Stylus and the fact it ships with 128 MB of internal storage vs 64 for the Power. Your review really has me leaning toward the Stylus because I could see myself actually using the pen to mark screen captures and simple note taking. I already use a power brick to re-charge so having the long battery life isnt crucial. Im sold on the Moto features like chop-light and turn-to open camera. Hope they still have Gorilla Glass, but I hear they switched to something comparable.

      @@mdrahman6732 I had both Z4 and V60.
Z4 was fine phone but MPP action was meh at best (lots of jitter) V60's AES wasn't much better, also suffering from jitter. But at least Z4 only costed $500. V60 was over $900.
Skip both and either order the Note 10 Lite (which is available on US amazon for ~$500) or do what I did and find a refurb Note 9 for less than $400 on amazon. The pen action is so much better than either Z4 or V60. Night and day. SD845 is still more powerful than the SD700 on the Z4. You still get a 3.5mm phone jack. If you find a good condition Note 9 for good price, it's the best move IMO.

It has a pressure and tilt-sensitive fairly accurate s-pen, and is a fun electric sketchbook that you can keep in your pocket. I got mine for $125. So that might be an alternative too.

    • @NovaAquarius
      @NovaAquarius Před 4 lety

I have hp pavillion x360. Before buying it I also wanted to know more about its drawing capabilities but alas! The number of CZcams channels reviewing it is next to none. So I had to buy it hoping it would turn out to be good.
And indeed it turned out to be not good but great for digital drawing. I have the i5 variant. It cost me something less than $900. But I think the i5 one can handle the resource heavy software like photoshop better and you can use the cpu power for other tasks too. But if you don't need that much power then I think the i3 varient would be fine too.
About drawing experience and the hp pen it comes with. The pen is an active pen. The palm rejection is great. The pen use the microsoft pen technology. Due to that it has some wobble compared to stylus with wacom ones. But it doesn't become a issue if the line smoothening in the software is around 5-10%. Other than that I think the experience overall is definitely premium.
I just also wanted to use that for notetaking. The machine is capable but windows lacks in the app section in that matter compared to ipad with goodnotes and notability. Windows only has Onenote which I didn't like. 😣

I LOVE Motorola! Been using them for years because once you start using the dimple, you will shun other phones for not giving you the same experience. Cult of Moto will know what I'm talking about. Their phones are geared towards different strokes for different folks. Google centered, Camera centered, Battery centered, Video or Audio centered. We bought the G6 play way back when and are still using them in near mint condition both hardware and software. We were just recently looking at the new G phones not because we are in need but because money is burning a hole in our pockets. That being said I am currently awaiting my iPad Mini 5 which I have major art plans for.

So something to consider, i work on phones pretty much for a living and i have had 3 of these through my shop already.
These are a mighty impressive phone for the money, uses a 665 CPU, pretty good camera and overall just feels good in the hand.
However there is corner cutting, primarily in fabrication quality. Most phones are taped/glued together and this phone is no different however the adhesive quality is noticeably lower than more well known phones like a S20 or a IP11. These phones not not IP67 rated and would barely qualify as water resistant. The stylus channel is a weak point in this case. These phones get mighty hot as well, cooling is done with a small GPU like thermal pad and some copper tape as its primary cooling solution. The lack of a coil in the back is rather disappointing, however not unheard of for this price bracket.
So to perspective buyers i would say this, Sub 300 this is one of the best choices bar none, However going up to 400 gets you a iPhone SE or a S10E and these are better phones straight up.
If you do buy one protect it and don't drop it in a body of water ever.

you can tell by going from 1080 to 1440 to 4k modes on a 1080p screen and being able to instantly tell all three apart
