Another alternative to Illustrator I would suggest for anyone who wants to do more precise drawing of curves, with far, far more control and sophistication than Illustrator, is Rhino 3D. Yes, it is a 3D CAD program, but it is also a dream for 2D curve drawing. It is great for creating the basic outlines, however complex you would like them, which you can export to Affinity or whatever for coloring, adding raster elements, etc. You can do very sophisticated and precise things with Rhino's NURBS curves. So much more control! So powerful! You can make much smoother curves, G2, G3, G4, etc. More technical though. And with Grasshopper, you can do some very interesting things you'd never dream of being able to do in Illustrator! Steep learning curve though!

I am bad at learning new programs so if I happen to fail picking up other software, I'll board the morally correct pirate ship.

The live trace feature in Inkscape actually works better than the one in Illustrator in my experience.

People in the States always sleep on Corel. Although it is a bit pricey and they also stabbed us in the back with subscriptions. Painter & Draw are great and if you keep an eye out they pop up with sales that aren't subscription based. No subscription here, just use older versions.

I've become a real fan of Rebelle for painting, though it doesn't have any photography image editing features worth speaking of. What excites me about Rebelle is how well the pigment mixing works. Other apps have similar options; but, for simulating mixing yellow+green or red+blue in a way that actually matches traditional tools, Rebelle is the best I've used. I recommend anyone who loves analog materials to simply attempt mixing a color wheel from RYB+BW. Rebelle will deliver the results you expect from traditional materials. ArtRage was what I used when I first gave up Ps, before I got Affinity (which I still use). Krita and Corel didn't do it for me in the color mixing area.

By the way if you're gonna try another video editor then premiere. Da Vinci resolve similar enough you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly there's a learning curve like everything but it's more similar than something like final cut . Final Cut is all crazy so I've never actually used it though ... if I was going to be in love with the software or even a company for that matter Black Magic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio. Can't help myself I'm a huge chill ....

Infinity is awesome. Absolutely love it. Honestly other than artificial intelligence stuff but you can get around with other software and plug-ins I don't even miss Photoshop. And resolve . Those programs I can vouch for ! Great video give me a lot of software I need to look into.

A nice minimal photo editing software is nevercenter camerabag photo, it's kind of the computer version of a phone image editing app and has some cool features!

Fairly decent breakdown, but left out Adobe' s Character Animator for digital puupetry. Used by the Simpsons and Stephen colbert. It has a faster turnaround than Animate, but you only get it when you get AE. An alternative to this is Reallusion's Cartoon Animator (which was missing on the list of alternatives to Animate) and version 5 allows creating vector characters. i started with Dobe, but like most found the subscription overwhelming. Cartoon Animator is one cost, security updates, pay for new version upgrades.

Live Trace (9:00) appears to be available in Photopea for free. There's no need to pay for Vector Magic.

Saw a comment here saying he uses Inkscape to do one thing then transfers that to Affinity to do another thing. Why can’t Affinity do that Inkscape thing itself? See the problem? Too cumbersome. For hobbyists, this workflow may work, but not everyone is a hobbyist.

I use Krita for quite some time. And I can say I do use Krita for profesional work also… it has amazing tools… creating seamless textures it’s really easy, and I can say that the stamp tool works much better than the photoshop one. Plus, the brushes are amazing, and we can add more also.

I'm still using ArtWorks 2 on RISC OS. An amazing piece of software for vector graphics!

Ditch Adobe we say when probably 90% of the videos you’ve enjoyed watching on CZcams were made using Premiere, After Effects, together with Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Photopea is an incredible tool a full photoshop clone for free. I use it for my work everyday.

8:58 Inkscape does have a sort of live trace function, called trace bitmap. Not quite as powerful when compared to Live Trace in my opinion but does get the job done.

Fresco has a free version that has limited brushes. The watercolor stuff is pretty amazing though.

I like RawPower for iOS as a PS replacement. Although I have to use Photomator for some tasks.

I had to do some simple video editing recently, for which I'd normally use After Effects, and tried to do it in Blender Video Editor. It turned out that Blender was great for that purpose. Highly recommended.

Blender really isn't suited for 2D Motion Design imo. As a AE replacement for that Cavalry seems to be a good replacement but they also only offer the subscription model which will eventually lead right back to Adobes toxic traits

Thank Brad for these COMPREHENSIVE lists of ALTERNATIVES to Adobe programs. Many people I know have been using Affinity Photo, Capture One, or Luminar Neo instead of Lightroom for some time. Luminar & Capture One have perpetual license and subscription plans. The SAD thing about this issue is right now, June of 2024, there is NO EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE to Photoshop in terms of professional Photography compositing and photo retouching. Just ask all the professionals or look at all the CZcams videos that show the ability of Photoshop alternative apps. In this regard, Photoshop knows they've cornered the market. That's why they've keep abusing their clients for a long time.

9:00 Wrong. Inkscape has Autotrace feature for over a decade. I've been using Inkscape since version 0.42 and all those years ago, we had Autotrace. Even now, just right click on any raster image inside of Inkscape, and you would see the option to trace the bitmap.

PSA: HitFilm used to be a great software but Artlist bought and killed it! It barely works anymore and you should not give these corporate bastards any of your time or even money!
