One thing Andy didn't mention is that when you shift into whatever gear is 1:1, it just locks the input shaft to the output shaft, that's why you only see 5 gears when the T56 is a 6 speed.

It rubs the oil on the synchro or it gets the hose again !!!

I've transferred one car's driveline to another a couple of times. Did one where the one car was automatic and the other car was manual. That was fun coverting the automatic to manual.

take care I Do work on cars for a living. Andy's only mistake was letting a little kid with almost no experience work in his shop unsupervised. That's why most shops will not hire someone without a lvl1 ASE certification or ten years experience with some training from a Master Technician or formal training. That is what I require to hire someone. Depression Is no joke it's really hard on someone and when you work on cars for a living it will keep you up even more so because what you just worked on puts someone's life in your hands and can cause fear that someone might get hurt, you can be up all night thinking "did I tighten that bolt. Did I correctly diagnose that. Is the customers going to be happy" and when you lose a good customer it hurts and makes you feel less and make you feel like you can't do this anymore without screwing up. Andy's actually a really good mechanic and so is his buddy old pal Mitch.

Mr. Aldrich...these kids and armchair mechanics don't understand that. I'm a retired master mechanic and Andy does a good job on everything that I've seen. People don't realize that when you build "race cars" like the Freedom Chicken it takes a while to get everything tuned right. Andy undoubtedly would have found that the kid that was working for him put the wrong nitrous jets in and would have fixed it properly. Dumbass Nick had to take it to another shop who then decided to go with a full shot off of the nitrous then boom. Of course that other shop is just a bunch of kids themselves that can only work on ONE type engine. Sorry about going off on a tangent there. But yeah, Andy and Mitch are both good mechanics.

Another quality video Andy I have always been scared of opening a gear box yet my dad used to tell me go for it just make detailed notes of how it comes apart, I was it's cheaper to get another box second hand with warranty. I might just bite the bullet soon.

don't be scared. just order an ATSG manual for what ever trans you plan on doing. they really aren't that hard, even automatics

I only really drive manual apart from long distance then I drive a, no piss taking (Vauxhall Astra 1.4 sri 150ps) Because of a damaged knee in a crash. Manual cars are the norm in the UK and as my dad said years ago Learn to drive a manual learn to heel and toe and learn to rev match then you are a driver, most is not needed so much these days but I have driven cars made with wood and others made of aluminium with v12 engines so it was worth learning.

Brass pawls on shifter fork.... Is there any issues with metal shards wearing off if the brass and clogging anything?

I am doing research on engine swap in an 04 newedge convertable to coyote, my question is in regards to a t56 trans from 04 Cobra vs a t56 magnum, my local shop has advised me to stay away from the cobra trans citing it is old and parts availability is drying up..but Older trans comes with a Ford aluminum Driveshaft and is ~2k less than a crate magnum...

so the v8 harness plugged right into the v6 body? gauges all work. Dang what am i waiting on!?
only issue I could see maby would be the VATS, but easily bypassed

10:12 You might as well get a GoPro (BIG ONE) head strap for the camera. So you can do two handed gear box rebuild videos. Don't forget to lube the hole shaft.

Backyard Chevy - yep, that’s why you save all those plastic trays for meat and veg from the grocery store, right?! My favourite are the polystyrene trays that you push parts through like pushrods, bolts, etc, to keep them in order... It’s one of the reasons I so love Mitch; his use of labelled freezer bags for components!
lol, i used to use egg cartons to keep things organized before i got those valvetrain organizer trays lol
Backyard Chevy - unfortunately, I had to learn the hard (really hard!) way, didn’t I... I cracked the casting for the rear bearing for the cam on a Pinto head back in the day, by getting the oil line bolts out of order & not noticing the rear bolt was shorter. It was a customer car; ‘had to buy another re-con head; spend all the time and more over again; upset the customer ‘coz I was late... I still have nightmares of that sickening sound of.... CRACK!
...and y’know, I shouldn’t say this but I was that green I decided to see if it affected how the motor would run... I was amazed I didn’t snap the cam between the middle & rear bearing after the sound it made on start up!
