- At NAMM 2018, Chase Bliss Audio founder Joel Korte chatted with us about the company's new Condor and Thermae pedals. We got a chance to try out the Condor earlier this year, and now it's the Thermae's turn. This imaginative stompbox is capable of the warm delays you'd expect from an analog circuit, as well as super unique and otherworldly modulated tones. Watch as Andy takes a dip in the warm pool of Thermae tone.

This pedal is an instrument all to itself. It's revolutionary. One the most creative tools I've used as a guitar player. One of the most unique effects ever. You get lost in this pedal.
wildebest this is the most annoying response to anything i’ve ever seen
@@anthonygaitan3901 why would you say that? He didn't say anything wrong or controversial
Cringe
The fact it can do all of that with analog parts (even w/ a digital controller) is crazy. Joel builds the coolest stuff.
$500 though?
Not really judging the value/cost of it, just saying I'm amazed at how much can be done with a digital controller and 4x3005s. I can't think of any other pitch shifting analog pedals with glide? I've had that in my digital rack stuff like Lexicon PCM80/81s and Eventide Eclipses, but first I've seen it in an analog pedal.
I was thinking the same thing. That's damn expensive for what it does uniquely and its not like you'd be using this often. The delay is outstanding and that phase sounded beautiful so if you don't have those two effects 5 times over already in your arsenal, it way be worth the price tag but how many songs do you want to pitch-shift your echos? How many songs can you do that on before it sounds like you're a one-trick pony? I'm thinking one.
Scott Koval I think I would use it the same way I use those racks - recording. Live use would be really difficult. The other good use, and I don’t do this myself, would be in building samples. I could see a DJ using the Thermae to build a massive library of samples that are original. If I still spun I would do that, but these days people don’t even spin vinyl, so maybe that’s not even a thing anymore. Dunno. I just like it whenever someone pushes a technological boundary. Joel does that. And I think it’s fun to take those products and figure out how to best use them.
Scott Koval You underestimate the market for this pedal. Gigging musicians playing songs are not the target for this. Ambient loopers, synth players, livecoders, contemporary composers and sound explorers in general are. I'm the latter and this is exactly what I've been looking for and yes, the price may be kind of steep for this product, but there is no other analog delay that offers as much sonic possibilities and controlability in the market right now.
You can tell by the look on his face that he really enjoys this one.
That
Is KRAZY! 1st NEW sounding pedal I've heard in a while !
Chase Bliss is so deep.
Wow! Amazing pedal! -I'm sold 😍
I'm definitely getting this, Chase Bliss Is on the top of the pedal world!
Shades of Hackett. Another breakthrough Andy! All smiles.
This may be the best pedal demo I've ever seen.
Andy is Mr modulation. What a wonderful demo and an outstanding pedal👍🏻
I get Stoned and watch these!!!!
Cool man we all needed to know that. My life is now improved since you shoehorned that information out there
Cool
HE'LL YEAH BORTHER
Lol me too
I... thought I was the only one.
That is one neat pedal.
the one and only review that displays this pedal in a musical way, absolutely great! thx Andy!
You play really nice!!
I'm still impressed how all that technology is inside that small box. Too many things to do...
Yeah but for 500 bucks they better pack a lot of technology in there.
fair enough
I agree. It's too much. Overkill.
I don't even play a whole lot anymore but this thing is very cool!
watched this for the third time ,what a great pedal
great delay it mades a lot of sounds
This is the best Thermae demo so far. Wasnt so sure, now, Im ready to bath.
u should watch the Knobs one
I don't know what these things do but are they awesome
I'm still waiting for a video or social media post on the CME Les Paul's specs
Nobody really knows how to demo this one yet, and this is by far the best demos of the pedal. That's Andy.
Try out the Channel Knobs on YT
@@Dismoeyy when they said "nobody really knows" Knobs was most definitely included in that...
7:20 LOVE THIS!!
WOW, heavy duty possibilities.
Any chance CME could offer 60 month financing on this pedal?
Its effects like these that force creativity. Crap in the hands of most, awe inspiring in the hands of a few
Krish Patel a tad bit pretentious there. It's a delay pedal with some pitch fx. Chill out buddy.
Krish Patel or the opposite. Awe inspiring in the hands of a few, but also an amazing turd polisher.
Yay! Kinda missed the G&L Legacy.
me too
Finally!
Dude I literally started crying at 7:33
😂😭 -Me too
Yeah that was stellar! In general this pedal isn't for me, but this sound/ability is very cool. Also, the LPF is killer. I wish the Tonal Recall had this kind of LPF control.
I literally started laughing when I saw the price of this toy!
so this is like that Count to 5 Delay on steroids?
If i get a pitch shifter and use a sepert delay pedal will I get the same effect. Also what is the original price
I want to use that on my poly D someone can advice me about ?
Happy Christmas to me
ok sold.
I know it is a completely different animal but seeing this demo makes me want to experiment with the octave trails on my pigtronix echolution I've never really found those settings that useful but this demo gives me some ideas.
Could we get this with a digital brain and a digital heart?
Any ideas for combining some "budget" pedals (e.g. pitch shifter, analog delay, modulation) for a more student-friendly alternative? Thermae is great, but not it's price :D
I use a TC Quintessence and a second-hand Source Audio Nemesis. I have other delays, fuzzes, reverbs, some pedals with fx loops and a MIDI controller (ES-8) but there's a lot you could do with, for example, a Quintessence, a Vox Trike Fuzz, and the Nemesis.
Or just get a Line6 M5 or M9. They have a lot of crazy sounds in there.
Mooer make a few pedals in the pitch shifting/analog delay/modulation range. Some are good, some not so much.
Can other delay pitch shifters make that sound from the intro? Like the boss one or the tc Electronics one?
No.. you can't control the speed of the movement between pitch on literally any other pedal, i have this thing.. cant say enough good things about it, whether you want regular delay, modulated delay, vibrato, chorus, pitch shifting or sequencing.. it does it all
@@stephenvale937 as of today, you can control the speed in the helix. I'm sure the thermae sounds better doing it, though.
@@ryndanriley5348 cool, suppose its all digital signalled for the helix though?
@@stephenvale937 yep. So it'll probably sound a little different and also not track as consistently, would be my guess. I dont know though because I havent used either one. Haha.
@@ryndanriley5348 the digital stuff can be good to be fair, i just prefer analog even if its just for the lack of interference you get, because nobody wants digital gain to avoid mixing analog and digital on a board ha
It’s awesome, not sure if it is 500.00 of awesomeness tho.
Michael Jenkins
Well it's like an instrument of its own. It's like buying a new guitar or something. I'd bring it down to 400 though. But it's such a crazy pedal that people are paying the 500. Checkout Montreal Assembly's "count to 5" pedal for a slightly less expencive pedal in the same category of awesomeness.
He use to do the Pro Guitar demos right?
Yes.
Chase Bliss pedals are always great. But I think Thermae ist not only(or not really) a guitar pedal!
Is there a possibility that this kind of amalgamation of technology and musicianship will compromise musical integrity of the musician? Just a thought considering I'm just now learning these gizmos
WHAT? HOLY SHIT.
So much for the saying "they have only scratch the surface" but with this pedal they indeed have scratch the surface and we are entering The subterranean territory
That clip at around 3:50 is impossible with the regen set where it is unless there's dip switches engaged that are not revealed BTW.
WOWWWWW
I think the pedal plays andy this time around!"😜
No need to chase bliss anymore. Found it!!!
The pedal makes you Sound like nick from tera melos
4 of those MN3005 chips in it?! Those are like $20 a piece. I'm not going to argue the price of this pedal.
Amazing ... but imagine what it would sound like in stereo!?
First song!
Very cool but I’ll keep my Belle Epoch Deluxe. Not sure I want to pay a big premium for all the funky options I might never use.
... bath.
...Salts.
That.... that sure is a pedal
The only problem is that you put $$$ on the table and in a few months Joel comes up with the "new and improved" Thermae II......
Um... no
Only $500
mindbodylightsound10 I don’t believe that’s some arbitrary price, the components needed, and hand built in USA, and all the r&d required, and it’s a small company... yeah it’s expensive but it’s not greed driving the price. Joel said somewhere that they barely make any money on their delay pedals even at those high prices. I can’t afford it but damn if it’s not impressive both sonically and from a engineering standpoint.
Kyle Henderson I'm sorry, I'm sure it was a lot of R&D effort involved but there's literally NO way that they're not making a lot of money on this given the possible BOM on this. Buy the pedal, but not the b.s. - an average dsp engineer.
$700 in Australia
Sid R. One SHARC DSP chip is in the neighborhood of $10. That’s the chip behind the strymon stuff. Flash the programing and the board is ready to go. 1 Xvive mn3005 reissue chip is in the neighborhood of $20 and this pedals uses four of them. Yeah I’m sure there is price breaks for quantity but then each pedal has to be calibrated by hand with an oscilloscope and that’s a lot of time to pay an employee a decent living wage. Then adding custom made and anodized knobs, high quality switches jacks. Vactrols for the dip switches, marketing blah blah blah things add up. Small batch manufacturing is tough and the boutique pedal market is insanely niche in the grand scheme of things. $500 is not for everyone but the people that want it can find a way. Just my .02
How much do people think this kind of power and control over a signal would cost 20-30 years ago comparatively?
Intro sounds like a couple of cats :D
CBA makes amazing pedals. So much versatility, and in a small pedal. The 1 criticism I have is they're too expensive for most guitarists. If they made versions of their pedals with less features but a lower price, they'd have way more buyers. EHX does this and they've done well with it. CBA's a high end brand, but their prices really limit their popularity & sales
amazing but it feels like ya need a degree in astrophysics to operate one of these
500 bucks? What, wow pedals might be nice, but I think a nice set of tires might be better.
Or a nice used, good condition tube amp.
Thanks. I love playing. But man I gotta start being real. Thanks and love you all.
If as you already know do 🌭
And🍺
Polyphia in a pedal
Rolls Royce of pedals&effects. It is bargain for what it does.
First pass from the bliss.
Ditto.
Waaaaaaay too complex and the price is ridiculous. My amp cost less.
It is disturbing, that youtube sent my old account into a limbo death, with undue reason, so I deleted it.
In so doing, all of my previous comments have also been deleted.
All of that undeserved Negativity that I have suffered at the fingertips of the jack booted, youtube gestapo, aside, I shall continue to endeavor to Enlighten Everyones day with Humor and Snark, just as I have before, and as always, I shall remain Faithful to the Truth!
Thank you for your patientce in this aweful incident brought about by the absolutely unfair and biased actions of those that run youtube !
Yes !
They should be flogged, but they will skate away, scot free, as usual!
this pedal is clearly beyond your comprehension. Stick to dirt pedals, hahah
