      Thanks for such an honest review! You have no idea how much honesty is appreciated within the community... or maybe you do :)) I've been on the fence trying to decide between the Thermae and the Tonal Recall RKM. I think I'll embrace the idea that some of the best sounds belong to the ether. We only share these sounds for a while before they return to the wood nymphs and Muses that created them. I'll buy the Thermae, but I'll probably buy the Tonal Recall RKM as well down the road. Cheers!

    I shouldn’t be here. I don’t play guitar. I don’t own a keyboard. I have never even considered a culture of people who love effect pedals. But here i am again just flat out enjoying your videos man. Through and through its just fucking good. Enjoy learning. The pedals are beautiful. It’s strange to say but you can see everyone decks out their pedals. They care. They look awesome. Keep it up!

      You don't need to be a guitarist to appreciate effects pedals. Stefan runs keyboards through pedals. Also check out Emily Hopkins, who plays a harp through effects pedals, including the Audio Thermae: czcams.com/video/6PdebicJQL0/video.html

    This is easily the best video on this pedal that I've seen. There are ones that contain more factual information or explain more aspects in detail, but this is probably the first time that I see how Thermae can really be applied to real music. Not just crazy psychedelic noodling with random intervals, but really carefully selected and operated settings that enrich the material being played, turning it into something that really can't be achieved using any other technology, while still being musical and beautiful. This is exactly what I needed. Since I first learned about this pedal, I was immensely intrigued by it. The idea itself seemed fantastic, everything about this little machine was so alluring, but from most of the demos I couldn't get if it can really be applied to what I'm playing in the ways that I imagined while keeping its idea in mind. Or if it is just another crazy boutique weird noise machine. Turns out, it doesn't have to be. Thanks for your passion and true creativity, it really feels like you've learned to play this pedal as a musical instrument, and I really appreciate your summary on it! Great work, cheers!

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Před 4 lety +5

      Cheers, man! It is a disclaimer, but it's not a deal breaker, at least for me. It's still one of the most epic delay pedals ever made, and the pitch-shifting is cool if you just embrace the slight unpredictability of it, and simply use it for random shooting textures in the background. Terrific pedal, but it has a learning curve for sure 😊

    Dope Holy Fawn shirt. This pedal is like a supermodel - extremely gorgeous, but it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth for me. All those dip switches in the back (even though I know that’s a CBA thing) already have me sweating all the tonal possibilities. For now, I’ll just listen to this gorgeous piece of music you’ve created Stefan. Another top drawer demo, man. Thank you!

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks, man! I know the DIP switches can be intimidating, but you don't really need to use them. Even Joel from Chase Bliss tells people to ignore the DIP switches in the beginning and just focus on the controls you can see. The DIP switches are mostly for extra tonal exploration, once you've figured out what the pedals are all about 😊

    I'm in the process of building a new pedalboard (well an entire guitar rig actually) and Stefan, you are delivering such wonderful knowledge.
    Even more, I absolutely find your phrasing on guitar familiar and brand new all at the same time. Words really can't underscore the depth of expressive inspirational material you have revealed.
    I hear this thermae all through Tycho's music.
    I love what this pedal can do, yet like you, from my limited knowledge about it, think it's a shame that it's hard to keep track of the sequential steps that must take place to completely understand how you arrived to blissful moments with the pedal.
    I know little about midi and have mostly relied on analog gear in my 30 years of playing. I plan to add this to my approach regardless and look forward to understanding it with patience, because it sounds so amazing. Thanks for the detailed video.

    I was fortunate to have more than 4 straight hours with this r2d2 type pedal today and wow! It's amazing.
    Stefan, your reviews helped give me the confidence that it would be a wise investment for crafting my music, and believe me, I am careful with what I chose to spend my money on. It was easier to make the purchase over the discount on the holidays.
    Just wanted to thank you for your time on revealing such helpful insights. I don't think I would have purchased this without your honest critique. I agree with your closing statements here. Fortunately, I can play off this pedal and can adapt my mental thinking to it's meanderings, though with a few engineered touches (like a time knob) it would be an easier process.

    just got a thermae recently and I feel like this video captures it perfectly. It’s my first CBA pedal and I really love it but when the pitch effect is sequencing it’s like the pedal is in charge. It’s been cool to just go with the randomness and keep it back in the mix. Probably the key to make it more musically intentional is to master the Step function like Stefan’ does in the demo. Interested to know the experience of other thermae users, but yeah- it’s a ridiculously warm, gooey awesome delay even without pitch or modulation

    Cool Stefan, visiting with an old friend today.
    Love what you do with this one. I’ve been undecided whether to get a Thermae, because I’m waiting for the new Deluxe Kilobyte, from Caroline.
    No shops near me ever have Chase Bliss pedals, so I’ve only played with a few in the line when I was visiting friends.
    I certainly love the Exp. capabilities, all those different effects one can conjure with the Thermae, by flicking some dip switches, an internal pot, and the Exp. pedal.

    Chase bliss should do a v2 where the delays are envelope triggered, with a time knob. Move glide & LPF to secondary controls, make the first knob control the pitch of the 'secret' step in the sequencer, and make LPF primarily a time knob. This would solve the gap areas the pedal currently has. Please Joel or Knobs see this!!

    Great video as usual. I'm currently jonesing for this pedal. I'm interested in the unpredictability you mentioned at the end, but I can see how it could be a problem, especially live. It would be great if you made a video, even a very short one, that illustrates the good and bad aspects of that unpredictability. Either way, cheers and keep up the great work!

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Před 4 lety

      Cheers, man! Happy you enjoyed the video. Don't really have time to do any follow-up videos on this thing. But the good and the bad aspects are as mentioned in the video. It's really hard to recreate sequences again, since you can't see where you are in the sequence when you begin playing, since it's not triggered by your playing, but constantly running in the background, seeing you just jump in at a random point in the sequence when you start playing. So if I were to use the pitch-shifting part of it live, then I would only rely on Step Mode for precise and timed pitch jumps, since you trigger each step of the sequence by pressing the tap button. If I were to just create random ambient textures for atmospheric passages in a track or for segues between tracks, then I would happily use the automated sequencing.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Před 4 lety +1

      The pedal is noisy. It’s an all analog delay, so there will be clock noise. You can filter it out with the low-pass filter, but I prefer brighter delays and actually like the slight inherent noise of analog delays.

    8:06 "the analog delay is 100% the best ive ever heard" thats pretty significant for someone as deep in delay as you to say. Ive saved enough to get a chase bliss but im torn between this, the mood, and the blooper. Id love to have them all but you know... money... Do you stand by your remarks still? i play an Avalanche Run alot but ive always been really interested in an analog delay. I happen to like lofi alot, and if I didnt have my zvex lofi junkie id be buying a warped vinyl no question (come to find out i still got a pedal joel made, albeit tonally really compressed and a little less elaborate) . Is the thermae truly a go to for the analog delay (even though thats only one small part)? also, dont suppose you heard any juicy gossip about a version 2 with a better sequencer? Its often my luck companies put out an update very shortly after i get a pedal. Happened to me with that avalanche i was talking about. If i was wanting stereo output i would have been so pissed.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I still stand by those words. It’s the best analog delay I’ve ever heard. You can also check out his Tonal Recall. That’s purely an analog delay. Really good as well. But there’s something extra magical about Thermae’s delay tone.

      @@thepedalzone Mood came today. I will make the Thermae be the big one for 2021, but you better believe it was a tough decision. I have a sneaky suspicion now that the blooper campaign is over joels in the lab making that sequencer be more controllable and we'll have a v2.0 next year (though i dont know if you can forecast genius like that. hes probably going to reinvent the wheel in ways we havent thought of yet) If not, still a great delay with all the other stuff and probably still worth owning. thanks mr stefan for advice. You better believe your endorsement of the delay in the thermae is still very much a big deal for me even though i went with the mood this time. now if you will excuse me, i will be fighting with a looper for the next few weeks.

    • @forestchild3261

      I actually got the Mood a few months ago and I'm still discovering the countless sweet spots it has to offer. Note that my primary instrument is a Moog Grandmother for ambient/dark pop stuff.
      I'm dreaming of the Thermae, checking other analogue delays with pitch shifting, to see if this is the most magical one.
      Basically, if you're looking for experimentation, creativity and new sounds, I'd take the MOOD as an interesting hybrid between Blooper and Thermae. And if you figure out you're way more into the delay side of the Mood, sell it and get Thermae. If you'll end up liking looping more, sell and get the Blooper.
      Or you'll fall in love with the pink unicorn and find out it's all you'll ever need. Who can tell but you.
      Between these three, I went Mood first, then chose Thermae (or equivalent) second and Blooper third.

      They are honestly incredibly different beasts. Hedra is a precise and pristine pitch-shifter. You get back exactly what you expect to get back. Thermae is a free-flowing analog delay that can do sequenced pitch jumps. But it's not re-triggered by your playing. It's constantly running. Hence you don't fully know what it's gonna throw back at ya. So it depends on what you want and need. Predictable and pristine? or warm, lo-fi and slightly unpredictable?
