    As much as I love chase bliss, they've been really riding this "delay that's also a looper and does wibbly wobbly things" effect type for a while now. We've had the mood, the blooper and now this.

    • @Spiderdridri
      @Spiderdridri Před 2 lety +11

      It was all intended from the beginning. Mood, Blooper and Habit was made to be a trio about ambiance, delays and loops. So if you think Habit has familiar traits from the Mood and Blooper, you're damn right. And that only means they nailed it :)

      This is a fun piece of gear however I’m still having this feeling of indifferent about it… I have the mood and blooper. (actually just saw the mood) I just wish these were in stereo… check out the microcosm. I just got mine about a month ago . It’s incredible.

    Chase Bliss pedals are definitely at the top of their game in terms of innovation, quality, and versatility, but in practical use, I don't know when you'd use even half of the sounds these pedals are capable of. I've owned several Chase Bliss pedals over the years and I've sold them all because I ended up using or liking a fraction of the sounds and functions.

      Condor is their only pedal I want for my performing board, maybe a Thermae.
      The Wombstone, Thermae, Tonal Recall, Spectre(though $900 is ridiculous), Gravitas and Warped Vinyl can do the basics, plus many more tones, but most of the others, that I see non-ambient players with, don’t get much use, or they literally only use it just to for big endings, or to act silly.
      The Automatones are a different story, but really just expensive studio tools.
      I can’t believe the Reverb costs more than the preamp; but what do I know?

    wowsers. that pedal is ... a lot. It's like they looked at the Arpenoid, ZOIA, and EHX RTG and said "hold my beer"
    There might be a lot in this pedal that i would personally use more for inspiration, but as far as conversation suggesting it's not that musically useful, i'd submit there are more useful settings i heard here than i can find in the Atredies pedal we all got excited about a couple years ago. I play ambient and traditional blues/rock, so there's a lot of crossover opportunities here. But holy cow, i would have a heck of a time finding back a setting I really liked. Lots of cellphone pics of settings for this one. :)

    Cool for soundscapes here and there...but sort of a " look , I can spend two hours making bloops and bleeps instead of learning a beautiful song with interesting harmonic/melodic content" pedal. There seem to be a lot of pedals graviting towards the player hitting a note or chord and the pedal does the rest going on lately. Still would be a lot of fun I'm sure. I'll continue trying to arrange Claire de Lune on my tele instead....come to think of it...once I finish my arrangement it would probably sound killer into this pedal....so forget what I said earlier :)

      @benjamincoggins6568 Před 2 lety +2

      It will make your beautiful song with interesting harmonic content much more beautiful/ ugly/ harmonic/ interesting/ unexpected. Just think of it as a parallel self live remixing your ideas but with a different sensibility that feedbacks into your interpretation of the source material and your performance. Rinse and repeat.

Currently am neck deep in madness, trying to hold on for dear life while I try to tame it into some sweet spots that play nice, (whoa, Nelly!) but are still interesting. There are TONS of usable settings from go to whoa, just takes some time with it (and a phd in astrophysics- kidding (not kidding). Getting there! I think effects are moving in this ambient/modulated direction because the core circuits for most popular effects are well established and dirt cheap. It’s hard to come up with circuits for core effect types that aren’t anything more clones (which hasn’t stopped them yet to be fair lol) unless you start adding a bunch of novelty sound and modulations. This sort of stuff is cool I guess, but like most of these wonky pedals I doubt you’ll see them on a RigRundown for anyone.

Where the blooper feels like a tool with a few flourishes and the mood like a toy that is so much fun you couldn't help but write a song or three around it, this feels like an electro harmonix pedal. Yes, it makes weird noises from three minutes earlier--but I struggle to see how I would use that in live gigs or even recording. If you're in a band like Sweet Trip or something it's got plenty of practical application. I don't think most Chase Bliss pedals are for standard oldies rock music

    • @richnewman
      @richnewman Před 2 lety +3

      @@DamienTheCat Not just "oldies rock music." Listen to any current music. How many bands have songs that have random glitches popping in and out from three minutes previously, etc? I can count maybe four bands that would use that. And good luck getting the same sound reliably during live gigs. Nah, this is a badroom twiddler pedal. I'm starting to realize that what the term "ambient" actually means when applied to effects.

    • @pretty.noodles3540

      @@richnewman I mean, bands improvise. Bands stray from recorded versions of songs. This pedal has just as much application as it doesn’t. It just matters if it inspires your musical journey, or it doesn’t. Would I use this? Absolutely. Hell yes I would. For a strict Stones cover band though? Nah.

    Nice review. Now I know that I definitely DO NOT want one. I've been seeing these advertised everywhere. I see it being a pain to hook up to the board and extremely difficult to master. Seems like one of those pedals that would be cool to have on the board, but it would just be overshadowed by the same 3 pedals I keep going back to.
    1. Tube Screamer
    2. Reverb
    3. Sometimes a basic delay

    You gotta hand it to Joel. This thing is weird, clever, innovative and completely useless in almost all settings. Even Andy, an absolute killer player fails to get anything half decent out of it. Yet even though I think it sounds like absolute crap, I’m still thinking about buying it. Like I said, genius.
