  • TOMATO RASAM Recipe by Su’s Cookbook ❤️
    Ingredients: ( A )
    4 small ripe tomatoes
    6 cloves of garlic
    Handful of fresh coriander leaves
Handful of fresh pudina (mint leaves)
1 sprig of fresh curry leaves
    150 ml thick tamarind juice
    1 tsp turmeric powder
    1 ½ cumin powder
    700-800 ml water
    Salt to taste
    ( B )
1 tbsp coarsely grounded black pepper
1 tsp brown sugar/jaggery (enhances the soup)
1 tsp any vegetable stock powder (Optional)
    Dash of Asafoetida/Hing powder
    2 green chillies (slit)
    For Tempering:
    1 tsp mustard seeds
    2 sprigs fresh curry leaves
    2 dried chillies
    Oil for tempering
    Steps:
Add all the (A) ingredients into a blender. Blend coarsely for a few seconds. Add about 600 ml water first, the remaining water can be added later.
Heat up 2-3 tbsp oil over medium-low flame. Add in the tempering ingredients. When they start to crackle, pour in the blended mixture. More water can be added now.
Then, add in (B). Once it starts to boil lightly, turn off the flame. Rasam should not be overcooked, to retain its flavour.
