Is there any plan for making a webapp along with commandline? Commandline, config files, log files create friction for people to start using the app.
You can make a GUI with angular and bootstrap.
YTSP for the win. Be sure to chose the right license for your open source project or they will take it and incorporate it into CZcams without crediting or compensating you… 😅
@@a.yashwanth i agree, people see command line program and immediate close it thinking "i have no idea what commands to use' - well that's been my experience with helping all sorts of people learning how to do things on their computer... I guess it harkens back to the days of the pre-windows and society seeing 'computer guys' as real brainiac's that built them from scratch and knew how every transistor, capacitor, and diode worked together... because that what it was like in the 70's and early 80's..... but now that I think about most of the people I'm thinking of that I helped out were in that age group that didn't even know what a double-click was and saw color television as a luxury LOL :D

@@ThioJoe how does it work? i think i does not take the comment text from your restore file? does each comment have a id and the programm just tells youtube to restore the comment?
If the text is restored from the file you could edit it and this way write comments from other accounts.
@@juri14111996 its using the id of the comment, when working with databases which is how youtube stores comments you need a truly unique value to id by, being that it is unavoidable that more then one user is going to post the exact same comment you cant identify on text alone
Cant wait for youtube to decide that this is “misuse” of their api, and then just disable the public api for deleting comments and send a cease and desist, instead of appreciating you for your good work

I can see networks of organized crime that thrives off of phishing and scamming to see this application or software as a threat to their work... they are probably going to pressure CZcams to counter but that would imply CZcams would acknowledge there is a problem. they also could try to contaminate the samples so that zero positives would skyrocket.
if you got most of CZcamsrs on the internet to utilize the program and eliminate all bots that spam, then they are going to react in equal measures, so keep working hard on counter measures so you are always three steps ahead of them.

Scanned 5,000 most recent comments, 505 total were scams (More than 10% of recent comments!) Now going to try it with 20k most recent....crazy times!

Maybe Google prefers more obvious spam over very hard to find one. Once spam is deleted aggressively, spammers will come up with solutions which are way harder to spot.
Google didn't do anything because they don't care. It's as simple as that.
They are busy removing actual features and turning CZcams into a TikTok clone with shorts.
Google didn't do this because all their products are half assed. They are "persons in need of adult supervision" who intentionally do things the wuick cheap way and make it very hard to give them feedback, which needs expensive labor to read and act on.
Besides, ads for porn sites just give them more "customers who buy porn" names to sell to their advertisers.

This is pretty much the average Linux experience. Literally just install some completely free and open source tool, run it and watch as it magically does everything for you.
Paid software that is also hella restricted for some reason is a thing of the past that somehow still exists in our current society.

I took a look at the code (I’m not an expert) and I saw the filter_variables file, what happens if a non-spammer account uses one or more of these symbols in their username? You might have a great solution to this but I was just curious. And it might be a non-problem since it’s possible that no non-spammers would use those symbols.

@Stinker4583 actually I think CZcams will be demanding payment for the use of their API if a few hundred eager civilians are gonna use his tool.
Not just to reimburse the running cost of the API, but also because those spammers probably pay CZcams to keep this stuff up as long as possible.
I'm saying that because the way CZcams is ignoring the spammers is unmistakingly malicious intent. They also punish creators that get harassed by the bots if the bots open their mouth about the pandemic or about China.

Came from Linus' recent video and I'm amazed how simple it is after setting it up. When see those comments and have the motivation to report these only to see 10 more and stop doing it. Besides the limitation on CZcams's end on how many I can report, these such a good program to stop spam and prevent people from clicking these. Thanks for making this.

I'm not so sure this thing works as it's supposed to. I scanned several channels I frequent that have an obvious troll/bot problem and none of the main troll/bots got detected despite having almost 15% of the total posts to their name.
Yet, a bunch of regulars I frequently chat with about normal life got picked up as spam posts for normal conversation, including myself. Something ain't right here.
@@mrsqueakthecat.8061 I rarely look at comments sections, so have limited experience. However, the app worked exactly as described during my testing.
Depending on the search method chosen, false positives are possible. However, I never noticed a false negative. It is easy to specify exceptions for any false positive entries.
@@buggsy5 Yes, I seem to have to make loads of exceptions for ever more benign sets of comments.
All biblical references seem to get flagged even when they have obvious relevance to the conversations they are in. Even my own while A-B testing things. That ain't right.
Same with the obvious high-level harassment and disinfromation troll posts that are tediously repetitious. Rarely do they get picked up either and that is the whole point of what I wanted to use this for.
@@mrsqueakthecat.8061 That depends on your viewpoint. I personally don't feel that any political or religious reference belongs in comments/chat - even if they are appropriate to the conversation. The problem is that some others will take exception and then an argument/war starts between those individuals that may well carry over into other conversations.
The lesser of the two evils is to just ban such comments up front. If the person is making a valid reference, the certainly must be non-religious/political references that could be used just as well.
There is so much hate in the world that it is nice when conversations do not mention either of those two major trigger subjects - as well as a few other polarized subjects.
My man is combating one of the biggest problems on CZcams. Meanwhile, how do you think CZcams has evolved over time? Oh, yes, they removed the dislike button in order to "protect small creators" such as the BBC, Late Night Show, and all those other small creators.
This is awesome! Thank you for putting a mode even the average CZcams user can use, its great to feel like you're contributing even if you don't have a following! I hope more people can find out about this, its really annoying to see these bots in comment sections and having to report them manually.

IDK if there is an option to shadow ban users but if there is then I think it would be much useful to shadow ban spammers instead... this way the spammer would waste their time running bots on channels which shadowbanned them
Also, a prompt that asks first if you wanna print all 100+ spam would be a good idea since printing can take a lot of time and could cause needless confusion. Maybe you can point to the log file instead where if someone wants then he can look for individual comments
Banning an account from a channel is just a shadowban. They won't notice they're banned unless they also check with a different account. Even the official term on the YT Studio page is "Hidden", not "banned".
Glad you did this Thio. You are probably now in an arms race as spammers probably making a lot of money for doing what they do. I hope this stays supported and improved over the comming month. Be aware that because this is public they might reverse engineer your app.

It's kind of funny that so many spam comments remain up, yet on many of those same channels my comments often get deleted close to immediately. Prolly my alias is triggering it, and it doesn't bother me.
But one spammer replied to one of my comments and I replied to it saying "obvious bot is obvious" or something like that. That reply was immediately deleted so I checked back an hour later, spam was still there and I still couldn't reply to in my own thread! CZcams needs you ThioJoe. CZcams needs you indeed.

This version is a massive improvement from the older one
In the old one, the Spammer Purge would often just die when I try displaying it on a txt file as a log of all comments
The newer one is more stable with more options and more accurate in finding bot comments (not a single false comment till now)

EXCELLENT app, thank you so much. It didn't work on auto, but I did a string search and got rid of the over 500 spam comments from bots n the last 24 hours. I used to just delete them manually, but when it is hundreds and hundreds at a time it is way too hard.

*This needs to be a Chrome extension* because although I believe you that it's easy to set up, for the majority of people, the command prompt way is way too much hassle. Most will simply ignore the spam and move on.
Otherwise this is a fantastic idea. I still can't believe this it too hard for Google/YT to implement themselves.
They are too busy protecting the big fish' feelings by killing the dislike ratio. What a disgrace.
Chrome Extensions are just a sandboxed website, and to get this to work, it means converting it all into javascript and probably writing your own client API to hit CZcams with. Sounds like a lot of work for a few lazy sods :P

One question, while the mass reporting feature sounds great, is it better doing it with a VPN and a spare account to prevent your IP and account marked as a bot? Or is it rate limited by the API so it's safe to use on my own network and account?
I am seriously considering running this 24/7 for my favorite channels, but I am afraid getting shadow banned or something similar by youtube LOL
The Api usage limit is there so they dont have to resort to IP bans, everyone just gets a number of api calls. If you go over the limit and keep using it or make multiple acounts to bypass the limit which probaply is against TOS maybe?

amazing! came from LTT's video and tried it out on a some of favorite YT channels, it pretty much is 100%, even found one channel which has a few thousand subs but was just spamming youtube links to what I believe was his own videos, I guess that counts as a spammer as well!

They most definitely will not. CZcams has shown that it's not CZcams anymore, it's now AdvertiserTube.
This thing is as useful now as it was five months ago. So far, by reporting spammer/scammer posts I've cleaned up three pretty popular CZcams channels. CZcams seems to be responding to the reports or the spammer/scammers are moving to other victims when they begin being reported by the hundreds. Thanks, Joe!
