I was encouraged by your explanation of splitting up workouts during a busy day with kids. I get discouraged thinking I can’t get out for the miles I had planned, but I could do a better job of problem solving and time management. Every minute counts. Thanks again for sharing.

Jessica I still remember when my kids were babies being so overwhelmed trying to follow a structured training plan; I literally had to let it go and just create a plan as best I could...your training should never make you feel guilty...make it your own; do the best with what you have...even if it means three 2 mile runs in a day. The seasons will change and so will your training. All the very best to you!

I'm not training for anything like this, but I absolutely agree with the 4am start. Nothing like starting the day early. After a good run before sunrise run, the rest of the day is easy. Now that I'm 55, those 12-13 mile mornings before work and now more like 7-9 miles, but I'm still at it!
First video I've watched of yours, and I enjoyed it! Keep it up!

I love your philosophy on improving running. Running is a lot more flexible than we think, and aerobic improvement doesn’t have to happen in 1 hr chunks. I’ve had runs where I run commute for 15 minutes, 30 min run at lunch, and commute home.
Do what you can, and you will improve!

Your advice about early morning workouts is so true. I work full time and I’m married with a 3 year old daughter so getting 2 hours of training a day means me waking up super early.

@@xzaz2 Prepare everything the night before - check weather, put aside correct clothes, shoes, etc. Then you wake up, grab a glass of water and dress up, and you are through the door. I do exactly the same - 4:30am start, with 2 hours - 2 hours 30 minutes I'm at home before they wake up around 07:15am.

I love that you take away excuses in a loving and concrete way. It’s super easy to look at the obstacles without seeing the possibilities. I recall a time when both of my little kids were under the weather (just colds…nothing major) but I needed to fit in a 12-mile run. So I ran 3 miles early morning while they slumbered and then ran 1-mile an hour…being gone 10 min didn’t interfere with cuddles and love and I was able to fit it in. Not ideal, but done. :)

Such great insight to being a mom and training, Sally!! Thank you for sharing. Currently trying my best to include my kids into my training by pushing their jeep wagon around. It’s an extra 30-70 lbs, but I do notice that it’s upping my game. My route has some small hills and a nice view, so it does the job. Sometimes it’s hard for me to let go of expectations, but I’m learning to little by little. I want my kids to be inspired and not feel like they’re getting in the way or something. Sometimes they have tantrums while I’m running, so that’s embarrassing lol but I guess that’s just mom life 😂

I needed to hear this. I used to do marathons, but now with this season of my business growing, I haven't had the chance to. I'll start running in the morning with my dog instead of just walking him to start

Great video Sally! Btw, just started taking BPN products and love it so far. I normally try and run 5 miles a day. Do you recommend taking the G.1. Sport or Electrolytes before I run? Also, have you ever dealt with plantar fasciitis? If so, how did you overcome it? Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been trying to sort out exactly how to do this with my 1 and 3 year old.
I know as a woman sometimes these questions probably feel a little patronizing at times but I think most just genuinely want to know how you do it!! Amazing 🎉

Awww I so appreciate the feedback and I truly LOVE answering the questions; when I first stepped into the world of ultras there was VERY little guidance out there especially for mamas of little babies; I was fairly isolated, so being able to share my experience and encourage other parents has been a real joy for me. ANYTHING is possible and it doesn't need to look like anyone else's journey except your own. Enjoy the journey and enjoy every day with your precious babes- it goes so fast...mine are 14 and 16 now! YOu're doing great Brittany!

Jesus ran trails. No bus lines and donkey rental a bit pricey. Really encouraging, just did a rare morning run and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. Great to hear your family life thriving! Prayers up that it continues and any challenges are met head on.

I love to hear about your faith journey alongside of the running journey and see how it all goes together hand in hand. God is in the details! Also neat to hear that you use BPN...I've been following Nick Bare since he got into triathlon years ago. :) Sally, you are a ray of sunshine and I'm praying for you! God bless, Megan

Thank you so much Meg! And YES BPN is awesome, they have been incredibly supportive of me and my journey! (I signed as one of their athletes last year...Nick and his wife Stef are beautiful souls!) And YES, my faith is why I do what I do and how I can keep going and push through any obstacle in life and in a race- thank you for your kind words! Big love!
