- Recovering and rolling back into training right after running the Jackpot Ultra 100 Mile race was an experiment in itself. Today I share my go-to recovery tactics, which rest heavily on sleep, low intensity movement, physical therapy and lots of food.
I was especially grateful to feature Michele Cazares, my PT, friend and who happens to be the BEST in her field. Check out her practice here: www.pptphysicaltherapy.com I can't recommend her enough! Although not able to feature the whole PT session, Michele works on my back and hips often to get me aligned as I have several impacted discs, lordosis, kyphosis, mild scoliosis, a torn ligament, and hips that don't like to stay in place. Thank you Michele- you're amazing!
The O2Health Lab, located in Newport Beach, CA is run by John Parks and has been helping me recover for the past 6 years. Super grateful for the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate in such a peaceful, calming clinic. You can learn more about their services here: www.o2healthlab.com

Wow you are changing the world of Endurance Running, to run 100 miles on a fatigued body and recovering so quickly after your run is a paradigm shift in endurance recovery👏👏 I love that you are willing to choose strong and test what your body can do! All the best with your big run💪

As someone from the east coast who hasn't had in n out burger since 2017, I was happy to hear that was part of the recovery!! Donuts are great too glad to see that was one of the stats listed 😂
Sally, you are a blessing to all of us.
At first I saw sadly instead of sally 😅
Easy 8 mile run this morning and listened to your podcast the whole time. This will be my Saturday routine and I’m loving it 💪🏼

You have encouraged me to not be afraid to run a half marathon this weekend as I’m currently training for the Boston Marathon. This will be my 8 marathon and my 4th Boston so I’m not new to the training but never thought about checking out the legs and testy my training like this. I’m nervy it excited to see what I got in me. You are simply encouraging and amazing! Thank you

Loving these longer videos!
I just ran Chuckanut 50k yesterday as a last long training run for Gorge Waterfalls 100k on April 1st and I feel pretty great this morning!
You’ve always been one of my favorite ultra runners to follow ever since I got into the sport and I can’t thank you enough for letting us into your world.

Awesome video, Sally!! I will be cheering you on when you run Cocodona🎉
Thank you Mari!!
You are amazing - I love the way you explain things. You are a wonderful blessing. Thank you for sharing it with us
youre welcome - thanks for watching!
The scenery in this video was so gorgeous! The water, the flowers…so pretty 😊 Great tips as well!
I’ve been trying to prioritise the most basic element of recovery: sleep. I’m finally accepting that you need extra sleep for running long distance, and that doesn’t make you lazy at all. It makes me feel better in all aspects of life, even apart from running.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing, you are such a role model to us all.
thanks Adam
Keep the videos consistent, this channel is going to blow up
This is turning into my favorite running vlog on CZcams. Amazing insight from a Pro.
Thank you!
You’re so rad Sally. Gearing up to run Aliso canyon in the morning (first time in over 8 years!) since I’m here for a quick visit. I miss our old runs there! ❤
Thank you for this video, I am on the road to a journey of my own so this is exactly the video I needed to see. Thank you and keep living and thriving;)
3 Donuts XD! Love your videos, Sally!
ha ha...ALL THE DONUTS!
Stay on the grind 💪!
Another great video!
thank you!
Such a great video Sally!! Being a runner for about 15 years now and having my share of injuries from a weaker left side, I love seeing you lay out your recovery. I loved seeing you work with your PT friend too, she looks amazing!! I had a major accident with one of our cows last summer and broke most of my ribs and am a little jealous of how she works through your back! It's amazing how much I have learned about my body through injuries and working back to full mobility and strengthening weaknesses. Anyway, thank you for all you do! I'm running the Sedona 125 and I hope to see you out there, unless you've already passed when we start 😉 Have a great rest of your training and best of luck with your summer of 200s!!
Thank you!
Great video Sally! "Not afraid..." I'll keep this message close! xx
thank you for watching Rachel =) yes.....stay courageous!!
Hi Sally, I just found your account - and deep dove watching all your content
I recently lost my mom earlier this year to unexpected brain cancer, she was so young healthy. I have been watching your videos and balling
I needed this video! I have such a “go go go” attitude, that sometimes I forget that my recovery efforts will also make me stronger in the long run.
Loving your channel so far! I love your podcast, but let’s just say I’m a visual learner. So I’m digging it 😜
thanks for watching, Meredith!
18:10 indomitable spirit!
Toda una inspiración! Saludos desde Uruguay!
me encanta uruguay! Estuve en montevido en 2018! Gracias por mirar y por tus amables palabras! Fuerte de por vida!
@@sallymcraestrength gracias por tu respuesta! Yo soy de Montevideo!
You are so great!
Appreciate the kindness! thank you for watching!
@@sallymcraestrength You Are Welcome 🤗
Loving your videos, they are really inspiring. Roll on Cocodona!!
Thanks Emma!
No way has she bossed some Hip Thrusters with some Dumbell Presses at the same time. Flabbergasted but very impressed. Bravo Sally.
I love the Rattle & Hum shirt!!!
such a good album!
Keep Inspiring 🏃♀️🙏🏔️☀️
Queen
I would love to see a recovery vlog that starts as soon as you cross the finish line
7:47 that O2 lab sounds amazing- I’ve seen a machine similar to this “Pulse” electromagnetic machine used for equine therapy (and tried it on myself after the therapist said he uses it on himself!). Very interesting!
yah it's awesome....feels awesome my low back- where I need it the most
Where can I get one of those weirdly shaped back thing?

I ran Cross Country Jserra Freshman year! I’m ultra training now! Go Lions!
0:53 the birdsong 🥰
=)
I really need to run one of these days
Aggressively attacking recovery... I need to adopt that attitude. My recovery after races is just not running. Not a great method. I need one of those crazy blue back things too! I would love a full prefab PT session, too uncover/ fix all of my issues. A half hour massage twice a year will have to do! 😆
OMGI thought i was crazy?! After my first ultra the next few days I wanted bread, cheese, and potatoes? Like I late those 3 things for every meal! Glad you said you do that too. I thought I had scarred my tastebuds for life lol
What are your fav exercises to combat runners' knee? And how many days a week should runners do S&C? I'm 35, relatively fit, and train for various 10ks and HMs, but I continue to have random a flare-up of runners knee. Thanks 🙏🏽
I have a whole category in my running and strength app called STRONG KNEES and there's several workouts in there that I personally do to keep my knees enduring. If you don't have my app you can try it for free for 7 days and see all those workouts; the link is here in the show notes!
Hi everyone from 🇪🇸. Like to Sally McRae. A nice weekend for everyone. 🌤️🏃🌤️
In Long races with a lot of Vert you will be hiking. Other than the strength training, what specifically are doing to hike faster and longer?
👏👏👏👏 Sally
Huggs and thanks elder mam.....respect regards
Love me some postrace cheeseburgers.
my favorite
How do you schedule your leg days in your training week? Any tips? I always end up running the long run on sore and recovering legs! Still can’t figure it out!
Hey Sara! thank you for watching- you have a great question; and it's a very popular one too. We are going to tackle that in one of the episodes but for now, I will say that it's a progressive build, much like your long runs...little by little you build to longer mileage. What I've noticed is that I can lift and handle way more weight and running than when I first started...I was sore after short lifts but not anymore. Also, I do prioritize each workout's purpose. If I want to run a fast, hard workout then I lift AFTER the run but if im doing race assimilation then I'll purposely trash my legs then go for a long run. Key is to stick to the purpose of that day's workout. More to come!
This is very helpful: build gradually, dose-appropriately and implement intentionally. Thank you, coach!❤
I was wondering the same thing, Sara 😊
@@sallymcraestrength thank you for your guidance! I’m binging all your content. So grateful for you sharing your journey. You are amazing. Go one more 💪🏼❤️
How many miles per week of volume do you do/expect to do when training for a 100miler?
Can you tell us what the funky blue thing is for your back and where to get it? Love your videos.
@SallyMcRae yes, would love to know what it's called. Did some Googling to try and find it but wasn't hitting the right keywords to see it.
Also curious! I could totally use one!
It's called a Fanlecy Neck & Shoulder Relaxer
You have a nice running stride 👍🏼
Silly question...but where can we find the Nike trail hats and gear you wear?
Are there any shoes you recommend for a better recovery?
I have neuropathy i really wish i could do the training to lead to a 100 miler or even 1/4 that. I only do what I can without the muscular pain. But im glad to be running at all after i couldnt run after blood clots.
Im here for all the sick nike gear
What’s that blue back thing called?!
It's called a Fanlecy Neck & Shoulder Relaxer
