"Runners are the fittest group of injured people I know." Hal Higdon.
crossfitters come in second?
Every single high level athlete I've met was less healthy than the vast majority of morbidly obese sedentary people out there , there's always a price to pay for excellency, and usually is your knees shoulders, hips, arms, etc... At least In sports, I've played Rugby for years on the highest level my country has to offer , dozens of fractures, some really bad pain in most joints, broken tooth, sprain everything, some dislocated joints, etc... 10 years playing every game with some kind of pain, including games with broken bones, I was never happier, I'm actually training to go back to play in a few months but as a veteran now, it's just too fun to stop.
I would claim world class orienteers are even fitter, but possibly less injured: They run across the terrain and seldom on paths and even more rarely on roads or pavement, so the joints impacts are much less severe while a lot more muscle groups are needed. We have seen two of the best female orienteers starting in Sky Races over the last two seasons, i.e. Tove Alexandersson from Sweden and Judith Wyder from Switzerland, and they both dominated those seasons. OTOH, this is over significantly shorter distances.
@@pedrothevenard lol what? You can say high level athletes get injured a lot more then sedentary people.. But less healthy is just bullshit.. olympic athletes generally live significantly longer then average, Morbidly obese people are generally way below the average by a decent margin...
@@ytbaccount87 Not true, constant high level effort will usually thicken the heart walls significantly, the chance for heart attack is very high at old age, constant lesions both serious and minors are also related to increased chance to many types of cancer, the amount of food ingested to sustain high level effort is linked to many disorders and deceases, the average lifespan of an athlete is in no way increased, actually is decreased significantly, of course you'll find outliers that lived to be a hundred years old, but if you take the millions of professional high level athletes the average lifespan won't reach the 70s at all, and I'm not even touching the PEDs subject.
Exercise is amazing and extremely healthy and will help you live longer, as long as you don't do it 6 to 12 hours a day, training through injuries, taking your body to the absolute limit to surpass others.
Courtney’s dad offering a piggy back ride like “I will literally carry you the rest of the way to the finish line” is so sweet.
I’m not crying your crying
I like her a lot. Her enthusiasm and kindness is something that makes her one of the best athletes ever :)
Truly one of a kind. 😁
Such decency! Love that she was a middle school science teacher (its own endurance sport) who worked her way to this with relatively minimal resources.
How true. Anybody who is enthusiastic and kind can never be fat old and slow.
Courtney and Camille are both smiling and apparently enjoying their runs no matter what 😀
She is just one class act. I shed a tear when she was cheering on her fellow athletes. Courtney is just the epitome of a true athlete. Also, man I LOVE her parents - easily known where she gets her personality from.
It’s wild because not only does her mom look like my passed mum’s doppleganger, I’m not a runner but my mom won the western states teva (horseback) and I now live in Auburn and Courtney is literally my favorite ultra runner to watch. I’ve lived here over a decade and JUST learned about this being a running race and not just the one my mom won on horseback back in the 80s 😂
9:31 "I like pain, but this one was..."
Now there's an ultrarunner. Love me some Courtney Dauwalter.
Her heart is bigger than all her race achievements. Optimism despite adversity, not easy. ❤️❤️❤️
We wholeheartedly agree with this statement. 👌
man i get so happy and motivated everytime i watch courtney
Absolutely no question she touches everyone's heart 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
yeah gotta go on a long run now!
She’s such an inspiration. She adds a certain humanity to ultras that not a lot of people do. Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing community but to see someone so “normal” eating nachos and drinking beers doing what she does is incredible.
Courtney “The nacho enthusiast/mid race candy grabber” Dauwalter
Now say it 3x's fast! 😂
Is that from Joe Rogan?
@@averagesquares9140 Yes
Courtney is all class. She is such a beautiful force.
She’s my favorite athlete for so many reasons and honestly the only the one I would label as my role model.
I also enjoy that they add “nacho enthusiast” to her title.
Nachos are 👌
I adore this video because it helps spread the message to all people, not just runners, that it is good to not be perfect. Even for an athlete as talented and trained as she is, injuries happen and quitting a challenge you set yourself happens. And then the way she deals with it: head up high and saying: "that's why the 100 mile distance is so fun." I would be crying from disappointment, but she keeps up the good spirit, even in pain. Please continue spreading this message and inspiring people all over the world, from different walks of life, passionate about running for all kinds of reasons.
We couldn't agree more. 🙏
I've been waiting for more Courtney content! 🙌
Wait no more... 🙌
Loved how they say it is an competitive race and the top three stop for a photo on top of the first Mountain!
It’s a 100 mile race...
@@adamedunn you’re not the competitive type I see😆👍
@@wurthit1239 I've won elite cycling races despite live streaming from the breakaway.
@@faustocrapiz136 good job👍
Its a 100 mile race…
Courtney’s attitude and perspective are beautiful. What a great athlete and human being!!!!
This made me emotional! There are few things better in this world than seeing talent and kindness combined. Truly an example. Well done!
What a class lady. A great example of what a champion should be
You are my hero Courtney. I wear my cougar in a hammock shirt all the time during my runs. I hope to meet you one day at a race.
Courtney's parents are amazing. Makes more sense how Courtney is a world wonder.
Really hard not to like her. Amazing athlete
Totally hard. 😉
Why are you trying to not like her to begin with?
It’s a figure of speech
literally such a queen. Trailblazing while also cheering and lifting up other women. This is what makes her such an extraordinary athlete
"Make it happen, you've got this".
I love your heart for the other runners.
You are truly remarkable and a force to be reckoned with.
I love your parents as well.
Today I ran /walked 7 miles and I thought of your many long runs and it kept me going. Thank you. Never ever change please. :)
and for this year, she won! broke the course record too! so happy for her and her family :')
Courtney kindly spoke to our Triathlon club during the pandemic. She is so nice, loves life. Big, big fan of her spirit.
Who’s on Earth can put a 👎on this content?! I wish I can have 20% of her determination and heart and stay so unabashedly happy.
ugh she makes me cry,!! the combo of grit and support for others is so beautiful
One of her best traits that makes me enjoy watching her is how she will cheer on anyone whether she finishes 1 day faster or she gets hurt and has to walk like we saw.. her spirit is second to none
Thank you for showing that video.
Noone can be really sure of what will happen on the trail.
She is so amazing, such an inspiring attitude!
YESSS another Courtney Dauwalter video! What an inspiration
This woman is awesome: humble, positive and expressing so much love for running. Thanks for sharing this video!
Her spirit in times of hardship reveal her beautiful soul! ❤️ This video makes me want to run 100 miles!!!!
She’s a Minnesotan. That explains the nice and positive part. And the parents. And the accent. But she’s a gifted, incomprehensibly tough athlete on top of all that. Impressive.
What a warrior. A beautiful soul.
I'm thankful for this video. I often do crazy things and often get injured. I get frustrated with my body that I have to take time out and then I look at woman like Courtney who consistently thrash it and feel even more frustrated with myself. It's refreshing to see that injuries happen to those at the top too and that's she's not some crazy alien lady, but instead human like the rest of us just with an awesome mentality. It's ok not to finish a race or keep going despite the brain and it's task driven push notifications. I often think the patience required to recover is harder than the races and goals of athletes. The learning part is crucial and the grace to accept a loss and cheer on your comrades is a higher achievement.
Courtney is such a class act and inspiration. Her family is so sweet, too. Thanks for sharing!
Courtney the way you adapt to the unexpected and learned from it to came back stronger is admirable, you never stay down, you always rise up to the next level!!!❤️
Thank you for sharing your journey! What an amazing story, sucked that it happened but... life happens! All the best for your future endeavours, I'm sure they will be amazing!
Thanks for a great film
I had the same injury, no fun. Her attitude is amazing and positive!
Such a great human. LEGEND!
Her most impressive performance. Awesome human
You're freaking amazing!!!
This is the second video of Courtney that has made me cry. Such a positive, inspirational and truly likeable human being
Beautiful little film, so sweet to see Courtney's parents there. She is the greatest!
I think every runner puts equal effort during the RACES. What makes the winners different is the extraaaaaaa effort they had put during the TRAINING... So excited to see Courtney! Superwoman!
you're incredible! you are definitely the best ultramarathoner ever!
I'm going to keep this saved in my Watch Later list simply because it is the BEST EXAMPLE of graciously accepting defeat when it you've tried your hardest for 70 miles and all the problem solving didn't work. I am so encouraged by your deep example. You have so much grace. And so much humility. thank you for sharing.
love Courtney's spirit...wow very inspirational person.
She is just a bloody legend 😊
one of my favorite things about these ultra docs (Billy Yang is great at this too) is that they seem to tell the story of failure as often as they tell stories of success. win or lose it doesn't matter, it's how you run the trail
Now we know where those bright teeth are coming from !!! :P
😉
@Italian Pills - Psicologia Politica no idiot
Amazing spirit!
Pulling out, being overtaken by fellow competitors and cheering them on! If this movie doesn't motivate you to go out and move, I don't know what...
We couldn't agree more, Mickey! 🙌
Such an amazing video.... its great to be reminded that even the best of us struggle at times! 🙏🏻

It really is! 😉
Quelle magnifique athlète et quel superbe esprit sportif ! ça fait tellement de bien de l'écouter! merci pour la vidéo!
She is so amazing 👏 ! Such amazing grit and fabulous smile! She's my favorite!
She's the best. Love her attitude and spirit.
Courtney pushed herself and learnt something, sometimes it's not the thing that you thought you'd want, but you come out stronger and better. I've been learning a lot of that recently and documenting it in my videos. Thanks for another great insight Salomon TV
You're absolutely right, Marc! Stoked to hear you enjoyed the episode. 🙌
What a truly lovely woman! And an incredible ambassador for Salomon and ultra running in general. Inspirational! ❤️
Thanks for inspiring folks like me.
I ran a half marathon. My legs are a bit busted but ohh well 2 mile walk to the car!
Fantastic video everyone. I finished my last 102k race with a sprained ankle and rabdo. Thank you Courtney the lessons are there for us even when we dont want them :)
Salomon always produces the best videos. Courtney showing the world she is a true champion.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the episode, Jeff. Thanks for your support! 🙌
I wish I had one tenth of the positivity that this great woman carries. I really love Courtney!
Amazing work Salomon! Courtney is such an inspiration for her positive outlook and love for the sport. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!! :)
Thanks for the kind words, Alastair! 😉
When I started watching this I was sure I'd seen footage from this race before and knew what happened. I remember watching the UTMB after and it was mentioned during the race her prior injury. Cool watching either way.
Such a fantastic attitude. Gonna have to show this one to my kids.
Thru pain and she still manage to smile. God bless 🙏 that lady.
Brilliant. So good🏃🏻♂️☝️
Positivity in the face of adversity.
She's genuinely inspirational.
I am brasilian run.... Kilian and Courtney are the best. Sympathy, focus and respect for all. I adore her!
Courtney is an amazingly beautiful human, and so is her husband and their families. Such a joy to watch and to listen to.
Nice insights into this instructive story !
Aim your goal, prepare, Get ready, get a go, face tough times, try anything, consider the wider picture, wisely pull out, no regret, learn from it.
Then change goal or try again !
Well said! 🙌
Awesome coverage of a humble person. Way to go Courtney !!! 💪💪
We agree! 💪
From a DNF at WS to a big win at UTMB is nothing short of amazing. Whatta champ!!!
You inspire greatness Courtney D! Huge heart!
Wow, shes IS human! Courtney, you are amazing. Loved this so much, crazy to see her battle and grow with a big smile.
Great video. MAD PROPS for putting the music at the end I always end up asking in the comments for it
😉
thanks Salomon for such an amazing documentary. This is surely the other side of ultra world. My favorite race finish is Courtney at UTMB 2019.
Such humility.
She's such an inspiration!
Great sportsmanship! I love the running community
Such a beautiful soul….
Champions will always have failures along the way, that is how warriors are made. That is the definition of world class and number 1. Always 100%.
i was just thinking "man cmon ... looking at the profile its basically just a 100 mile *descent* "
thank I thought "yeah ... a *100* mile descent"
what a great video
Can win them all your dedication shows your strenghts
What a mindset and person
Love her so much
Claire winning time means her average speed was 5.75mph at about a 10 min mile average. Doing that over 100 miles of mountain is CRAZY impressive. These athletes are some of the most impressive to me
What an absolutely awesome human Courtney is.
What an awesome human.
She's such a legend!
Literally love her! Courtney should be the face of all sports - kind, fun and fierce ❤️🌝🌪
she's amazing, i had the honor to run with her a little bit in Albi, her energy and laugh is contagious, a true American hero, a tough woman indeed...
We're jealous... 😉
Courtney has the greatest attitude....so does Kaci...Love seeing the women kicking it good. Hope 2020 gives you all something great.
Having a knee injury myself right now, Courtney's positiveness makes me so happy!
Thank you Courtney, for being out there!
And ofcourse Salomon for facilitating all the awesome gear!
Hope to see you out on the trails very soon, Jonathan! Take care. 🙌
It sucks to be out from running, but if you channel that determination and desire to run into pt, rest, and ice then you’re back running sooner! I always have to remind myself of this because I always want to get back to running sooner than I should.
@@metaphoricdirigible1499 My physiotherapist gave me the green light to build up my running again. In 900 meters my knee gave in and a stabbing pain kicked in. So unfortunately the road to recovery will be longer than hoped for.
But yes, I will definitely channel my determination. I long for running every second, hour, day.
Thank you for your message!
Ahhh yes, the “nervous mom feel” my mother gets that feeling often. Most recently when I was promoted at work and then again when I made her her favorite cake.
Class.
Class act , I'm a huge fan
Out for 3months and counting because of shin splints and this video evoked tears I needed in a long time, thanks for that :)
You got this, Arthur! You'll be out on the trails soon. Take care. 🙏
