Man Lineage 2 was a huge hit in Russia and South America, it was the biggest mmo because the client was stolen so there was a lot of private servers. By far the most hardcore PvP mmo

Loved the podcast but I have some comments about: I do believe there was a golden age for MMOs because of its boom when "everything was great", been around since Ultima Online, and so far we have yet to reach another time like that, sadly the MMOs coming out are not good enough. We can't compare the old times to current ones, or think what if those games come out now, because they are the ones who forged the path and the standards for most of what we have.
The other thing is that I didn't like a guest that basically don't like any MMO... I mean, I understand the current state of current games, but everything was just a "no", or he was banned, or he didn't put the time because he didn't like it. I am going to check the video from the guy of why he is quitting the MMOs to try to understand, but so far I was left with a bad taste of mouth of most of his opinions, if not all of them (don't take it the wrong way just in case)
He seemed very black and white on everything and yet the entire point of new different mmorpgs is to mix and match mmorpg attributes & systems together to create something novel (usually). They will undoubtedly have some aspects that each player like and some that each doesn't but he finds one thing to nitpick for every game and ultimately 'cancels' every game as a whole b/c of it.
WoW, Runescape, flyff, rappelz, ragnarok, perfect world, archeage, Silk Road Online but was riddled with botters that game was a gem though.( all out at same time). so many mmos which niche styles that people played that actually had community and parties. vs the instance gaming mmo we have no where parties dont matter and you play the game by yourself for the majority of hours log. its a big difference. When we were younger we had a lot of options at the same time as well.
Great podcast, can't wait to see more. Would be so nice to join you guys and have a nice convo some day.

Yeah, there are a LOT of MMOs coming in the next few months/year, but; whether or not any of them will be "Good"* is up in the air.
* Good is a Relative Term; for ME, Good is Action Combat, STRONG Crafting Systems that have a SOLID Place in the In-Game Economy, Engaging Character Progression, and Cosmetic Only MTX.
Most MMOs these days fall between "Fine" and "Trash" because of the MTX...
Didn't watch all yet.... but no mention of one of the best mmos, and by far the best pvp mmo, dark age of camelot

This is really good genuinely, as someone who just found your channel and is diving into mmos I find this one entertaining, and two super important to the community keep it up guys
I am 41, I hit the Best MMOS ever and it was : Ultima Online, Everquest, Star Wars galaxies, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron Call, World of Warcraft classic, Everquest 2, Star wars the old republic (swtor). New World was Okey, mind I was hitting it hard in those games top tier old school, when asmongold was an infant in the mmo space. Black desert had a great combat system.
The next games will be:
Riot MMO, I have high hopes, since they have a great track record and already having the IP and balanced classes.
Pax Dei, the idea is great and have the old school high fantasy setting, stay true to the high fantasy, problem with ASIAN mmos is that they go out of their way to create monsters that just feels like the human centipede, to much over the top fantasy, stay true to D&D and u will have success, western gamers creates a lot of social content contrary ASIAN players. Dark and Darker is a perfect example of actual asians/koreans staying true to the blue print and actually made a new great genre.

Guys don't mention the grandfather of modern DAY MMOs. EverQuest. Where the wow devs said they used to play. EverQuest came out in 1999 and is still putting out a new expansion ever year...
Throne and liberty is a good game ;) I've been played for 3 months almost and trust me.. That was good.
Honestly the first 7 years of MMO's was the Golden Age. we got games like Ultima Online, Tibia, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Runescape, Ragnarok, World of warcraft, Guildwars 1. those were pretty good games some of those still played till this Date. They were all very different, I played most of them and I've played every single big MMORPG released after these and other than BDO, GW2 and FFXIV all of the titles have failed.
The issue is that these old school MMO's set the foundation for the new generation and they just don't know how to take advantage of it. Every single MMO its either ruined by monetization (Archage...), a terrible set of daily chores (Lost ark), or even worse a lack of content and polish (new world).
The best MMORPG I've played and again I've played almost all of the big titles. is Ultima Online (yes it had its flaws, but till this day its the most complete game I've played).
The most fun I've had was first 2-3 months of Archage release before the p2w caught up and destroyed the game. Pre-awakening BDO was close second in fun too.
At this point I can only wait for Poe2 and Ashes of Creation. IF those 2 fail (I'm really hoping they don't) then I think ill have to move on from games because to be honest MMORPG's is the only type of game other than a bit of ARPG that I truly love.
BDO is bad and I have 100 days on it. Most just play cause we love MMO and longing for something to fill the void. The questing , the p2w just to be able to grind at spots inventory and weight is insanely predatory
Really weird to rate something when end game haven't been done. Mmos gameplay is usually dependent on getting the skills to get it fleshed out

The point and click mmos of the past have a better mmo feel than these new age mmos where the class you pick doesn't matter. No parties for dungeons anymore. everything is solo instance and it feels like your player solo player game with a world chat lmaooo

hi kanon, since i think you play lots of mmo do you ever tried albion online? since the game will start launching new server for eu in april i think thats the best time to start new
most of thing that shown on ashes of creation happen in albion, for example that caravan mentioned are a common occurence, for example east server have this tradition of caravan zerg every bandit event crossing pvp zone, its ussually packed with 100 or more people all in transport mount going together with a friendly zerg doing other objective. its ussually not go smoothly because some pk might appear and kill those who transport but because they are too big most ganker kill stray/people who left behind by the zerg. or people tried form bomb
i would say the combat is a bit clunky because theres cooldown after every skill so i think thats can make people dont like that

Ncsoft should go all in arenanet and make gw3 with the same systems but newer graphics.
That would be their master stroke but they might never see that golden goose.
The only issue with gw2 is that they are starved for resources because arenanet being a small indie game company and the graphics looking a bit dated.
The combat and systems are better than everything before and whats there in market rn.
People who play wow and other mmos have no idea whats good combat, stuck in their gcd world with lag issues when 20 people gather together waiting for them to get a target to fire a skill.

Ultima Online > EverQuest > RuneScape > WoW > EQ2 > BC > Rift > Aion > Final Fantasy 11 etc.
There was definitely an amazing 10-15 year run.

GW2 is the answer whether you hate it or not it is currently the best MMO
I think 'best' is subjective to each their own but it definitely has many systems fully built-out and well designed for perhaps the widest variety of player demographics! (i.e. it has something for everyone)

best mmos in order. L2 > Aion > Gw2 > tera >>>> rest. WoW is garbage. WoW is the worst thing to ever happen to mmorpgs. Channels, instances, arenas , raids with mechanics and pve content all of this came from WoW and all of this is the reason why mmorpgs suck ass. Raids should have no mechanics so that everyone can participate and they should be gated by pvp . L2 figured out mmos and it will never be topped

Modern graphics WoW wouldn't work imo. Either it'll look too good and be unrecognizable to wow aesthetic, or just be a high def version of pixelated images.

i tried most of them and none of them get me playing it for more then something like
30-60h.
BDO for example very good gameplay,character editor/outfits,graphic,but on the other hand is forced pvp after lvl49 p2w and a really bad enchanting system,near non existent pve content expect grind hell(no problem with it but it should be this way)but the bad parts overshadow the good parts of the game so i quit.
People want single player combat in an MMO, with no trade-offs. People need to learn a bit about game development
1998-2010 is the golden age of MMO
UO in 1999-2001 and WOW 2004-2006 was peak MMO for me

Steven running an mmo could be good- he knows what it means to be a whale and that knowledge could be beneficial for us. Imagine a conscious whale that would be awesome
just play black desert online it beats any other ones easily.

Neeko is known as the ultimate rage baiter. He will put down any and all games for the most trivial of complaints dramatized for the sole purpose of views. There's a fine line between criticism and unwarranted pessimism and he's crossed it long ago and i think it truly hurts the gaming and streaming community.
