    When Kobe retired I remember being exited because I knew his passion for basketball and being an ambassador of the game was unlike anyone we had ever seen. Like I knew as fans it meant we would be getting more Kobe in the media and in other projects than ever before. Which we did for a bit. Real shame we never got to really see that part of his career play out

    Kobe’s 12-13 season is SEVERELY underrated just look who’s on the court when he’s playing, lakers really dropped the ball when it came to surrounding him with talent towards the end. Could attribute that to drafting and how bad it was pre Jesse buss

    Fantastic supercut! Another difference in Kobe during the 07-08 season, he finally started hanging out with his teammates off the court and building relationships with them. That no doubt helped the team's chemistry.

    • @cjvaye99
      @cjvaye99 Před 9 měsíci +4

      that's something ppl forget. Kobes change in his game and decision to actively build relationships with his teammates made all the difference. of course everyone remembers the finals run but what's often forget is Kobe had basically the same roster from the year prior (plus Derek Fisher) as one of the top seeds in the west before the Pau trade even happened. think about how insane that is. you can also tell it wasn't just for show in the interview after the Pau trade when the media wanted to hear Kobe's reaction he actually says the first thing he thought of was his guys Kwame and Javaris and said he wished them the best bc he sort of became a mentor for them.

    Excellent video Clayton!
    As for Kobe. Say what you want about all time rankings, but most of us could probably agree that he had a darn good career for himself.
    One oddly overlooked series on his part:
    In 2001’s second round vs the Kings, Kobe Bryant averaged 35 points per game on 58.8% true shooting.
    He averaged a point and a half more per game than Shaq on a tenth of a percent worse true shooting. And for that matter he got nine rebounds per game too, so nearly averaging a double double with 35 points.
    I don’t know how many times someone’s averaged 35 in a playoff series, but I’d say it’s an impressive series, and I don’t see anyone bringing that up.
    I am in the camp that Shaq was definitely the best player on the Millennium Lakers, but if there was a series where Kobe may have been even better, this could have been it.

    Only wrong thing you said, is that Achilles year that was not a super team at all. Plus it wasn't Shaq who clearly the best player in the 3 peat, Shaq averages would only go up becaue he will play only in the finals, but for the WC playoffs in 01-04 it was all Kobe. You have to get that right. Like in 01 alone. SHAQ WAS SLOWED down in west playoffs specially in Road games in kings and San antonio, kobe continued to attack those teams. Yet in game 1 of the finals pjax, went back to Shaq that's why they loss. In games 2-4 they got more production from Kobe and they swept those 4 games. 02 it's clear thay year Lakeshow got 2 Apex shaq and Kobe, which the media doesn't want to accept in 2000-2001 season. 03, it was kobe who really carried the Lakeshow in reg season. In playoffs kobe was already the Alpha but looks like Shaq was not happy with it 04 wasn't a super team again. Malone was 40 GP was not playing as an allstar since 03.

      The Lakers were done by the time Lebron started winning anything with his super teams. Did you see the Lakers rosters that Kobe had to deal with toward the end of his career? In 2012-2013 post-Phil Jackson, the Lakers were fading as a roster, aging, and underperforming, and they no longer had a capable coach with a system that fit the Lakers roster at the time, and they lacked a capable front-office making bad move after bad move. Kobe was still Kobe though. By 2014, the Lakers cleaned house, and chose to play the youth development game, and had a bunch of kids trying to play professional basketball for a paycheck with Kobe having to babysit them. Kobe could have left, and teamed up with the best players in the league, but he didn't need to do that, and he had nothing to prove at that point anyways. Kobe dominated the toughest Western Conference in the history of the NBA for over a decade during the entire 2,000's while Lebron dominated the weakest Eastern Conference in NBA history for over a decade during the 2010's. Of course Lebron was going to go to 10 straight Finals, and lose 6 or 7 of them. The Heatles, and the Cavs were super teams that were stacked in a weak conference. Who were the best teams Lebron faced on his way to those Finals before getting owned by the Warriors multiple seasons? The Raptors, the Pacers? Give me a break. Those 10 straight Finals runs are so overrated it's not even funny. So is Lebrons first championship run when the Cavs got swept by the Spurs. The Cavs only went up against one team that was above .500 during that 2007 playoff run.

    • @CrazyxEnigma

      Don't remember the puppet commercials? Kobe v LeBron is what everyone wanted and what everyone thought would happen when KG unfortunately got hurt in 09. Might've happened in 11 but Nowitzki and the Mavs went on a tear and the Lakers looked like they lost all their fight for some reason.

    I think that something that isnt talked about enough with regards to the 2013 Lakers is how the front office decided to sign Mike D'Antoni, a offensive-minded, fast-paced and shooting-oriented coach who wasnt suited to manage the egos in the locker room when they were the oldest team in the league, had two defensive-minded centers in their starting lineup and in general were more of a defensive-minded team, and their only player who could shoot was a 39-year old Steve Nash. Oh yeah and there was a certain Phil Jackson who was ready to accept the job...

      Jim Buss' idiocy and his fragile ego is why he went with D'Antoni. He couldn't handle the fact Phil Jackson would be viewed as the Lakers savior had he come in and gotten this team on track, I know damn well he never would've let Kobe overwork himself to an injury like what ended up happening.
      It was phenomenally stupid to go with a coach like D'Antoni for the roster we had as you said in detail, just about any other coach would've been a better fit for the team. Coach has got to be able to put their players in the best position to succeed and D'Antoni as has been proven in the years since is a one trick pony who can only find any type of success with a roster that fits him and his style.
