The Wasted Potential of Andrea Harrison

- In todays video, I talk about the full story of Andrea and the ups and downs of her writing. Many people including me found her very annoying towards season 3, however, she was not always a bad character.

I'll forever be angry at how much they butchered her character, she genuinely could've had some of the best development in the show along with carol.
Yeah and they almost killed Carol on season 3 and she practically carried the show along with Rick and Daryl. Geez imagine how that would have affected the show.
They got one thing in common, they both miss their vibrators.
She needed her redemption arc.
We* needed it too
@@MrRepoman197T-Dog would've been alive so maybe things wouldn't have been too bad
It’s so disappointing how they killed her off in such a stupid out of character way, it could have been avoided so many times and yet it still happened.

They killed her before she could start her redemption arc in Season 4, because she was well on her way to doing so and winning over the audience at the end of Season 3. That and Carl's death are two things I will always despise the show for in some ways
The showrunners and writers honestly did Laurie Holden real dirty, same as Chandler Riggs.
I agree!!
Yea especially because carl wasn't supposed to die at all, he was my favourite character and his death was almost made pointless because of what happened to siddiq a season later, carl gave his life for siddiq only for him to also be killed in season 10 I think it was, siddiq was a good character too
Are you kidding? She was carried by all the other People around her and the only time she was on her own, she immediately failed.
Heck just rewatch S2 and look how she treated Dale, the only Guy who deeply cared about her and even saved her Life. And how did she repaid this kindness? Huh? How????
Wining over the Audience my Ass. 99% of all People despise her Character.
Rightfully so.
Andrea in the Comics was likeable to a certain degree but the TV Show Andrea is just awful and useless.

@@danielleschiazza6172 honestly same! He really was a good character
Glenn Mazzarra, the S3 Showrunner, also had this odd fascination with killing off characters in suprising ways. He's the reason Merle, Axel, and Milton died in S3 when they too were supposed to last into S4.
Merle and Milton were never in the comics. They lasted exactly as long as the current showrunner wanted them to.
@Rushy I know they weren't in the comics. That being said, this is confirmed information. Mazzarra kill off all those characters for shock value, just like Andrea, even though they were told that they'd return for S4.
@@DanielMartActor well, Andrea had a contract for many more seasons due to her being a comic character. I guess Milton and Merle were left open for a return. Don't think Milton really needed to stay, though.
@@DarthRushy So did they. Again, they were allslated to return for S4. Contracts had been written up & signed & everything by the time Mazzarra decided to be a dumbass and said to kill them off.
@@DarthRushy merle and andrea were suppose to both be in season 4 idk bout milton tho he was basically alice from the comics
I think the reason why Andrea went along with the governor's B's is bc she wanted a normal life. That episode when she went to the prison she made that choice. She saw ricks living conditions and wanted no parts of it. She wanted a house and a lawn, not a dirty prison cell filled with filth and walkers as neighbors

Andrea’s fate in the comics is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever read. I was shocked with Glenn upon reading, but with Andrea I was full on blubbering.
Andrea’s character is one of three characters that I would 100% change in the show to match their comic book counterparts. Andrea in the book is so good so seeing what happened to her in the show is frustrating to me at least.
Just three? Jeez.
Andrea in the comics was simply amazing. She was rhe sharpshooter, became a mother to Carl, and was Rick's rock. She even impressed the hell out of Negan. Such a shame they wasted her potential.
They swapped Michonne into Andrea’s role but the comic version would have been better
It would be so interesting if Shane and Andrea lived, but they just disappeared from the group and then came back in a later season as antagonists or part of one the later communities we see. Just think about they appearing in Negan's group. That would be awsome.
Little bit late to the party, but i wanted to add that the actress that played andrea was very upset not only about the descision to kill her, but the part that Andrea was supposed to play in season 4 when they had a very very rough draft of it. Shes talked about it on instagram a long time ago. Andrea was supposed to have so much more to her than in season 3... i wish we couldve seen it. I still miss her to this day. Huge wasted potential. Still loved her, though.
Andrea is the TV show’s biggest failure. She was such an MVP in the comics and in the show she was basically “We have Andrea at home”
Despite being the lead woman in the earlier seasons they still couldn't do her character right
Andrea should’ve lived till the whisper war and gotten her comic death. If I was writing the show. I would make her survive Milton everything plays out the same with Andrea now being present, and maybe going on some runs with Daryl and Glenn. Governor still attacks the prison. Herschel still dies Michonne still saves Rick from the governor, however the governor puts up more a fight against Michonne compared to the original with a sword through his chest. Suddenly a gunshot is seen going through his head killing him. Michonne turns to the direction of the gunshot scene cuts to Andrea with a rifle finally killing the governor and saving both her leader and person who saved her.
In the comics both Andrea and Dale live longer. In fact, Andrea had Sasha's storyline. What happened to Bob happened to Dale, and she has to cope with the loss. She had an amazing storyline that was butchered in the show.
she had so much potential. and she didn't make that much of a mistake. The hate this woman received just for learning to live in a new world. 😢
Andrea was one of my favorite characters, and I was bitter that the writers wrote her so badly in Season 3 and then killed her off. But I suspect when Andrea mistook Daryl for a walker and shot and wounded him in Season 2 was the moment that doomed her character. Andrea could have shot anyone else and been forgiven by the fans, but not Daryl. Fan outrage was extreme against Andrea and by extension against Laurie Holden. On the other hand, Daryl bonded with Carol while searching for her missing daughter Sophia. So you might say that Daryl's popularity overflowed on to Carol. Thus it was because of Daryl that the writers flip-flopped the characters of Carol and Andrea in comparison to their comic book counterparts.
I completely agree if only they stuck to a more comic representation and thank you for going through her actual strengths in the show
the most wasted character, and whoever says that she was trash or bad is because they never understood her character and prefer robots like Daryl who do everything right

she had her dumb moments like the one where she shot daryl, but otherwise she was actually pretty cool of a character, one could say she had potential to be as strong as rosita in later seasons but of course, they portrayed her as the dumb blonde and killed her off.

I have so much love for Andrea. She wasn’t perfect she had problems, that’s what makes a good character. People hate her too much.
I will say, Andrea's death made room for Carol to take more Comic stories as tv Michonne stepped up to comic Andrea while tv Carol stepped up to comic Michonne.
Andrea is the best. She should have survived. She had the potential
Would loved to see if she survived tho
i love these longer videos over shorts, keep it up bro
Andrea shouldn't have died. She could have lived and had a huge arc after she realized there was no reasoning with the Governor. She should have had a huge moment and been the one who killed the Governor. Now her ending up with Rick? I like it was Michone. But she could have been a hell of a character if they didn't drop her on season 3.
Andrea brought a lot to show, she was gone too soon. It would've been nice to see more development over the years.
Andrea and Merle should had lasted longer like season 5 at least for Merle and 7-8 for Andrea
Andrea is definitely the character done wrong the most. However: I do still think killing off Carl was the bigger sin. It robbed the main show of the epilogue it so desperately needed, and yes we get a bunch of fun little spin-offs here and there now wich quite frankly look better then i expected thus far but all that comes at the cost of a satisfying finale to one of the greatest shows ever, wich was already struggling with keeping it’s narrative intact and it’s characters interesting.
I’ve been thus far been able to forgive everything. Every death, character alter or plot twist in both the show and the comics, no matter how much i personally disliked it, I could always respect the choice from a narrative perspective or understood the reasoning behind it. After all: it’s not the purpose of art and entertainment to cater to my liking, it’s to get me emotionally involved and engaged. Carl’s death was the exception to that. The show will always have a special place in my heart but i simply can’t forgive them for that.
Killing Carl undermined the first few seasons with everything revolving around Rick protecting his family and Carl growing up. With Carl surviving, everything from Otis being sacrificed and everything else Shane did, Hershel saving Carl, Judith being born and Lorry dying in childbirth with Carl there, all the lessons he learned… it all had meaning when you looked back years later. They also lost the Carl/Negan dynamic. Enid and Carl should have been together during the Whisperer War w/ Carl being the one to set Began free to take revenge on Alpha for Enid’s death. Also lost the Carl/Judith relationship that they gave Daryl. And of course, Carl and Rick being reunited. They even could have written Riggs off the show if he needed a break (or they didn’t think it was worth paying him… I’m guessing they lost many times more money by killing him off), saying he went to search for Rick instead of killing him. I still enjoyed the show until the end but in my head “this would be better if Carl was here” was ever present.
I also heard a rumor (I can’t find any evidence of this what so ever just some public speculation from hearing things) that supposedly the actress that played Andrea was also one of the supporters of frank darabont (when he got fired) along with dumunn, bernthal, and Sarah Wayne callies. And that they wrote her off the show for that. (Again just rumor I heard from somewhere)
Tbh, I couldn't see show Andrea and Rick being together like they were in the comics (due to their dynamic not rly...matching??). I really started to hate her when she had not one but TWO chances to kill the governor, but she didn't. I loved her personality in the comics because she was more like Rick and was more understanding. Still love them both
Thank God Rick and Andrea didn't get together in the show. Our boy Rick deserves better than to get his enemies sloppy seconds. She slept with Shane and the Governor😂

@@TheRealRickGrimes JESUS when you put it like that youre so right 😭💀
I hope you have that same energy for every character who could have killed someone to prevent something from happening and didn't - like Rick, maybe?
Andrea was probably in my top 3 favorite characters in the comics. She was such a ride or die for Rick and became a second mom to Carl. Wasted potential.
she would have been great if they wouldn't have written in her death at the last minute, the original plan was for her to save Woodbury on horseback and be the one to take them in at the prison. I don't think she would have ended up with Rick, but I think she would have been a great character if she just got that chance at a redemption arc.
Im just annoyed on how she was portrayed in the show because in the comics she is such a good character, im about to finish volume 5 and tge comics are so good, andrea is actually a really cool character in the comics
Season 3, from my knowledge, wiped out 3 major characters. T-Dog, Lori and then Andrea. I understand that the producers wanted to portray the "nobody is safe" image and keep viewers on their toes, but I think obliterating these characters within the season ruined the show, especially Andrea's. I genuinely think one of them should have maybe perished during the fall of the prison - possibly T-Dog, then Andrea surviving until a few seasons later or maybe up until the finale.
Andrea in many was was incredibly intelligent. She by no means was a fighting machine, but she knew how to climb the hierarchy in Woodbury and essentially manipulate her way to the top - a COMPLETELY different method of not just surviving, but thriving, compared to physical altercations and battles.
Thank you for this. I hate how they did Laurie Holden/TV Andrea.
The weird thing is people sent Laurie Holden death threats when she accidentally shot Daryl in season 2.
Apparently Norman Reedus said "she came to the set, freaking out:" people wanna kill me" and I was like "come on""
Wtf
Sarah Wayne Callies also received that type of mail because of Lori's love triangle with Rick and Shane. It's very odd to me when fans can't separate fictional characters from the actor/actress portraying them. Especially when it's so obviously fiction with zombies walking around. lol
Hardcore tv fans are off it, didn’t they do the same for Eugene and other actors?
so many toxic horrible people in the world. tara’s actress also received so much hate mostly focused on her weight; she was pregnant at the time🙄
@@orlac7229 I had caught on fairly early that she was pregnant when she kept dressing in bigger clothing to cover her pregnancy. Especially when she's the only one wearing winter/fall type of clothes in the middle of summer.
Andrea and carl were my top 3 characters in the comics and were completely wested in the show.
One thing I realize when she ran away from the governor was she is grabbed by a Walker from behind. The Walker can’t get her due to a tree being in the way but, Andrea did not scream and fought back to save her life. It was the first moment she seemed ready in the ways Shane wanted the group to be
She was a civil rights lawyer, so she’s a strong and independent woman who helps society’s underdogs. I think she saw Shane to be a black sheep, and that’s why she liked him. She pitied that aspect of him. Andrea was so strong and independent. Despite what people say I personally loved her character and I wish I could’ve seen her do sm more!
Your long form content is slept on
in my third watch of TWD. I'm loving Andrea. I even understand and appreciate Lori more too
Moments that stood out to me were when she started to realize the Governor’s atrocities and lies, Michonne pointing our her flaw of trusting charismatic men way too easily, when she had that conversation with Carol, and finally when she was establishing herself as a leader in Woodbury. It all led me to believe they were indications she would possibly take over Woodbury as a leader and have a pact with Rick where both leaders would protect the overall territory of the prison and Woodbury, set up trade, stuff like that. I was very disappointed with the direction they took with her character :/
I LOVE THIS I honestly agree and it’s so sad to hear that people HATED HER it’s just like 😐 but I really really really agree!!!!!!
I wish we got to see T-Dog, Oscar, Axel, Andrea, Sophia, and Carl lived longer, Carl, Andrea, and Sophia should have made it to the end. It would have been cool to see T-Dog fight with Merle again in season 3.
Honestly she wasn’t that bad, she was genuinely just a normal person that happened to be in an apocalypse. (As normal as one can be during a zombie apocalypse) She didn’t want to hurt or kill anyone and just wanted peace. Yeah she’s made dumb dumb decisions, everyone in the show has, but she really wasn’t so bad. Still not as good as comic her, but still.
What a good video, Thanks clashed PR.
I always think that andrea can't disappoint me more than that.
But she surprisingly finds new ways to disappoint me even more.
Thank god, that stopped after she's dead. She's really a skyler white of TWD.
For me Andrea came up like Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars in a way. She definitely had more potential with more character development through out the series. Even if it was pretty slow in 2 and 3.
Ahsoka was meant to be a annoying character that would change and develop over time to be greater and a fan favorite

She was amazing in the comic book and they changed her personality and killed her off in a stupid way without allowing her to develop in the tv show.
I like how your video is short but you say a lot in it. Most videos about films or tv shows are like 20 minutes, sometimes over 40.
If Angela Kang was showrunner during Season 3, she definitely would've allowed Andrea to flourish as a character. Glen Mazzarra dropped the ball on her and T-Dog.
I always said they wasted Andrea. They could have kill her more brutal and more painful.
What if Scott Gimple wasn't the director of TWD?
Andrea should have been the one Rick ended up with. They put Michonne in her role to be WOKE and millions turned Off The show.
Imagine a AU show where Rick not only faces the Gov, but The Gov, Andrea, and Shane.
That would be Crazy-
Even though her character was so far from what it was in the comics, I still really liked Andrea and still to this day, hate that she died so early on in the show.
While yes her character was wasted compared to her comic version but at the same time that give us more chance to see the development of other characters like Carol or Michonne (specially michonne that practically took the place of the Andrea of the comics)
Andrea's arc on the first two seasons is one of my favorites of the good era of the show (which for me is the first five seasons). From kinda leaderish to suicidal to confident survivor. It's beautiful seeing her go from mad at Dale, because she wanted to die and he took it from her, to wanting to live and being one of the best fighters in the group.
Then they f*cked her character in the third season. That's my least favorite part of the good era.
I wish they would of really gave Andrea the comic book version she was badass
I am one of those hoping that she would be saved from S3. Sadly, it didn't happen. I am hoping that her character will develop just like Carol's in the next more seasons if she is still alive by then. It's a waste that her role was ended so soon.
Throughout the show I realised that the most dangerous characters were the gullible ones with everyone's best interests in mind. And Andrea in season 3 was the prime example of that. She had so many chances to end the war, but always ended up not doing so, because she thought things could be solved the peaceful way.
She became more like Dale. Delusional.
Hello! Sorry to bother you! Great work! in scorched Earth 4k (the Boys) short video which music track did you use? Thank you in advance!
Watching this makes me feel bummed her character wasn't treated properly and given more time in the show
I was fascinated with her. You can tell from the beginning that her story would be tragic. Part of it is Laurie Holdens features. Her eyes emanate kindness and sadness, and unlike most of the group Andrea just didn’t seem to have the kind of grit it would take to make it in that world. She didn’t seem like someone who could survive without the group like Shane or Darryl. After she lost all hope and Dale saved her, I ended up rooting for her to survive. She came so close to escaping the governor but it was all for nothing. Seemed like the writers just wanted her out.
Crazy how this is cookie king, been following you for a long time
3:51 SMOOTH asf transition. Bravo Vince! I mean... Bravo Clashed!
She was done so dirty, I really liked Andrea for most of her run but season three was so out of character for her. Even season two could have been pulled back if the writing had been better. It's such a shame, Holden is a great actor too.
I am adicted to this serial i learn so much from it.
First time I watched the series I didn't like her cuz she kept sleeping with the villains lol. As I rewatch, I have much more sympathy for Shane and agree, Andrea always had leadership qualities - going against the grain, being decisive, admitting fault etc.
You should do a ranking of every season in TWD universe
Andrea performed the minor miracle of almost being as bad as Rick's wife. And that's saying something.
I feel like the showrunners or writers hated the actress or something. I don't understand why she was killed off so early when she survived almost to the end in the comics.
Once again, I think the writing of the show is what made this character bad. I love her actress and I think she was a fantastic pick for the character, but the poor writing she had to work with more or less sealed her fate in the eyes of the fans.
3:51 the transition🔥
she should've survived longer
Facts
Andrea actually wanted Peace, even if she didn't always go about it in the right way.
What's funny is a lot of the characters in later seasons wanted the same, made similar choices, but they survived. They could be considered annoying. I think Andrea had a lot of potential. Potential that other characters were given who were also not fan favourites.
I liked the Dale and Andrea dynamic in the comics and felt like they should’ve kept that or at least done what you said she leaves with Shane . W vid tho cookie 😘

Comic spoilers below. They are worth a read and have a large number of differences to the show, so if you want to read them and care about spoilers don't read past here. Otherwise, feel free to read about comic stuff and spoil yourself.
The video doesn't really talk about the comics, which I think is something huge to talk about in things like this. Remember when the actress was supposed to get 8 seasons? Probably because Andrea survives through all of All Out War (Negan) and dies during the war with the whispers in the comics. Dale also lives far longer dying RIGHT before Alexandria. He gets Bob's death in the show. He gets the whole Tainted Meat thing and all that and Andrea is the one to put him down as he actually ended up adopting her as his daughter. Rick and Andrea end up getting together (like Michonne and Rick in the show) and she ends up adopting Carl and all that, who lives beyond All Out War also. Andrea is a sharpshooter, and almost cowboy-esk in her abilities. Basically Co-Leading with Rick. Being a mother to Carl. While the TV death was cool, Andrea sacrifices herself in the comics to protect others from the massive hoard Beta sends at Alexandria. Other minor things to note is that Judith dies in the prison after fleeing during the governor's final attack, Carol dies at the prison to suicide as she really never outgrew what her TV Show S1 character was, Maggie and Glenn adopt Sophie who doesn't die and is a close friend to Carl for many years. Another minor detail is that Shane doesn't actually make it to the farm. About as quick as you meet him he is then dead. Rick returns to camp, stuff happens, before even leaving the camp Shane dies to Carl (similar to the TV show). The CDC stuff also doesn't happen and they just kind of survive on the road until stumbling along Hershel's farm after the winter ends. With Shane and Dale's stories changing drastically, Andrea's kind of got taken for a spin and then they kind of fumbled with her until they were like "lmao, it would be pretty shocking if she died right?" "But she still has like 5 more seasons of stuff to do, we can't kill her! What about her and Rick and all that? We could never just create a new relationship dynamic for him with someone in the group right? Unless... 👀"
LANCE HORNSBY HAD THE BIGGEST MISSED POTENTIAL, in my opinion. I don't know why they killed him. With its development, so many things could be invented. He could be a cunning manipulator, weaving various intrigues. The most cunning and intelligent character in the walking dead. Moreover, he could not be a villain, but an anti-hero. And the writers could also use him when CRM comes.
this isn’t a video on lance though
@@roddymhaiki1889 I should make one though!

They basically took the best parts of theAndrea Harrison character from the graphic novels, added them to Carol Peltier of the show. Comic Carol was a mess.
the part im most mad about is how they did her character after her suicide attempts. One thing you never shed light on was her interaction with Beth. After leaving the room and allowing Beth to attempt suicide, Maggie yells at her and Andrea says something along the lines of "she knows that she wants to live now. thats worth more then anything , trust me" This interaction could of had SO MUCH potential between the dynamic of Andrea and Beth, both being suicide survivors. But instead, they threw it away for sex.
that's why they placed her character's persona and put it into Carol.
Her comic transformation was so cool.
From a normal woman into a badass shooter.
Same reaction for me when she died she could be an strong character
