The power and clarity of Andreas Scholl's voice, together with his deeply emotional interpretation accented by his masterful vibrato, stand out for me as tops. He has both the artistry and maturity that speak of having experienced life himself deeply.
I love Iestyn best here. For one, I can hear English is his mother tongue: in both Jakob and Andreas, no matter how well trained, I can still detect a faint foreign accent peeping through. Plus, his phrasing is so in line with the text. No pomp, no circumstance, a full bodied delivery. Jakub and Andreas are sublime, don’t get me wrong. This is splitting hairs, AFAIAC.
Jakub's performance is joy 🤩, naturalness and energy. Andrea has good technique and difficult to read emotions. I definitely prefer Jakub's spontaneous approach. Davies is somewhere in the middle, i.e. in second place.
What a treat to hear these three wonderful artists. Three beautiful interpretations, each with their particular attractions. I always enjoy these programmes although I find the idea of competition rather tedious and pointless.
Orlinski and Scholl. Orlinski's performance was taken from the concert in Warsow in 2018. He was 27 then. That was a beginning of his career. He is very consistent with beautiful ornamentation and his diction is perfect. His cohesion with the orchestra is better than Scholl's. Scholl's version is a studio recorded one ( I suppose). His sound is mature and beautiful. A few accentuations are a bit out proportion to the whole context in Scholl's rendition, in my opinion. Both of them beautiful in general.
That was a wonderful performance, so full of heart. My ‘go to’ recording whenever I want to hear and see him. His English was perfect too. He was, and is, quite remarkable.
@@lindapoulson2130 Due to Jakub's different approach to music in general (he does not want to perceived as a typical operatic singer and he shows a lot of interest in different music genres too) and his OUTSTANDING MASCULINE VOICE COLOUR, Jakub is incomparable with the typical countertenor singer. He has his own vision that seems to appeal both to young and older generations. For sure, one of the most inspiring artists these days. I am his fan😁, however Scholl is my favourite too.
Hi B and B. Lovely choices. As I’m sure you know, there’s an equally wonderful version by your recently added countertenor, Yoshikazu Mera. Maybe for a future video? Cheers.
Your second question is the better one: Which performance do we prefer? I love all three performances, but enjoyed Andreas Scholl the most. He seems, to me, to have greater depth of feeling. Iestyn Davies comes second with regard to preferences. (But tomorrow could bring a change of my mind.) 🙂
All three have beautiful voices, but I think Orlinski wins this one. Not only does he express more emotion in his singing (and this aria is sobbingly sad) but he sings at the correct tempo. The other two, especially Davies, are too slow.
They are all three so phantastic that I could never choose!
Iestyn every time and I think he would have been Handel’s choice. His voice goes to my very soul.

All three of them are singing giants in this field. Embarras de richesse!
Hands down, Orlinski
Jakub Józef Orliński is the best ever!

Buff.
Jakub Orliński ❤

I like all three very much..but Lestyn.. .. ..🌹🌹🌹

Orliński and Davies !💯❤️
This is, every note from all three counter tenors, so very, very beautiful. Thank you.
All three are superb. Orlinski and Scholl #1.
Magnificent, orchestrated vocal quality of pure tones without embellishment! BRAVO!
All three, beautiful interpretations of the aria, but different in register and tempo. For me, Orlinski first, then Scholl, then Davies.
A reminder of just how brilliant Scholl was at his best. The others are wonderful too, but he is faultless here.
Not faultless… His pronunciation of English words is fine but still a faint accent can be traced. Splitting hairs? Yes, but important? Also.
Muy buenos los tres 👌
🌸🥀🌺🏵 Very Very Beautiful 🥀🌺🏵🌸
Scholl!!!
Davies+ Scholl ❤
Ann-Sofie von Otter should be a given candidate.
The only one I just don't like quite as much is Jakub - his voice sounds a bit harsh to me. I think Scholl is my favorite here.
Scholl ❤
Lestyn Davies
Ann Sofie von Otter is the best rendition on Pinnock's recording.
Andreas Scholl hands down! His deep rich vocal tone with exceptional control. No contest here. Bravo!

Scholl emocionante.
Orlinski, the best

Scholl. Extremely moving. Words matter.

Scholl.
Kathleen Ferrier
Andreas Scholl definitely is my favorite
Orlinski e Scholl! Ambos fabulosos.
Andreas Scholl.🌹🙏😇
1Scholl, 2 Davies, 3 Orlinsky
Scholl, indiscutible.
Jakub Orliński
Scholl!
Scholl

All three wonderful but I put Orlinski first🙏👏

Russell Oberlin , lo siento, lo escribi incorrectamente.
