These are some of my most comfortable Red Wings and they were comfortable right away. Not much break in at all. I usually wear a 9.5 in Red Wing but I got a 10 in these to accommodate the insole.
Long comment coming. You have been warned. I want a pair of the Sawmill boots. They are hard to find here in the US at the moment. I'm seriously contemplating getting a pair of the Roughnecks for a "to me" Christmas present though lol. I currently have 4 pairs of Red Wings. My 1907s "US 11"(which I got first due to your videos haha), my 875s "US 10" (which are the only boots I decided to size down on and my most recent purchase btw), and two pairs of Blacksmiths "US 11" in Briar and Copper Rough and Tough (the 3343s are used for everyday work and the Briars are my special occasion boot). And I plan on owning more. I was a Wolverine boot man. Proud to say I'm a Red Wing guy for life now. I'd say that we had slightly different break experiences though. Both my pairs of Blacksmiths were very easy to break in. I wore them for half a day upon first wear and by the time I put them on the second day? I could wear them all day/every day. So even though the Blacksmiths were a bit stiff and didn't get actually comfortable for a week or two, they were wearable almost immediately. They were snug at first but loosened up quickly with every day wear and the toe box is very wide. So because of that I had to get a thin leather insert and because of shock absorption also added a thin cork insert. They fit great like that so no harm no foul but I feel like if I had to do it over again? I'd of gotten them in a US10 1/2. But I needed the extra support for work ( I work in construction). So it did work out. My 3343s are holding up really well to what I put them through too. Stylish but a real tank of a boot none the less. To be fair I do take really good care of them (I brush them off and wipe them down with a damp cloth every day after work. I condition them about once every season with mink oil. They are basically the color of Amber Harness leather now (but hey they look great with the darkened color honestly LOL). That being said? They are a very durable boot. And when they do get scuffed or scratched? Well I just add some Sephir neutral polish to the scuffed areas, give them a good brushing, and they clean right up. (The 3343s are my everyday go to boots). Now for the Moc Toes smh. Ok so both my 1907s and my 875s were a bear to break in. My 1907s were by far the hardest boots I've EVER broken in though. I got them true to size because of the leather insert and that was the RIGHT decision. Idk why? But they fit my foot better than the 875s and using the insert made them eventually turn into the most comfortable boot I've ever owned. But the break in was a nightmare. Blisters, chunks out of my foot, all that. It was partly my fault because I tried to be tough and wear them all day at work right out of the box. I learned my lesson for sure. But even with the extra wear and pain it took the 1907s months before they were wearable all day. Then one day out of nowhere, they got really comfortable. After 6 months they ended up being the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever worn. I've found that although they have more room in the vamp (which is good because I have wide feet), the toe/instep is actually a snugger fit for me than with the 875s. I love the Copper Rough and Tough leather because of it's ability to come back from a beaten and still return to a very like new texture and color. (These are my most comfortable and cherished boots) As far as the 875s? Well the fit is totally different as opposed to the 1907s. Can definitely tell the used a totally different last despite them both being classified as "classic Moc Toe boots". I wanted to do the ol Red Wing method with these and not use any inserts. So I got them too small purposely. That way I could just let them mold to my foot. This was also the RIGHT decision and made me realize I should've gotten my Blacksmiths in a 10 1/2 (not a full size down because I use them for work so I do need the inserts for shock absorption). Because of my previous experience with the 1907s, I knew better than to just wear them daily out of the box. I wore them 2hrs a day when I got home from work the first week. Then repeated that but wore them for 4 or 5hrs on the weekends. After a few weeks they are starting to finally feel good. At first "due to sizing down", they felt way, WAY too tight. But now they are breaking in and I must say, the Red Wing method is working out for me very nicely. They are snug and fit perfectly. Plus they are starting to take on the shape of my actual foot. And that is truly a custom experience that I'm very happy to see in action. (to me these are my coolest pair of boots. I can't beat them up a bit, wear them in casual situations, on the weekend, every day, or at work. The 875s are truly iconic). All and all I'm very pleased with all my boots. I'd say my Red Wing Moc Toes are my favorites though. Thanks for all your videos and advice. I learned a lot about Red Wing boots before ever purchasing a pair. The information was truly invaluable as far as care, break in, durability, and preference. I still watch your channel every week hoping for new boot reviews haha. My Timberland Pro’s are seeing their second Midwest winter. Despite all the naysayers Timberline’s "Pro" line isn’t a slouch. They’ve held up remarkably well whilst preforming automotive work. Hopefully Devon will review a pair eventually.
@@southernpimp5252 they are a decent boot. But if you watch Rose Anvil videos you can see the differences in boots when he cuts them in half. You can see where the money is going and where it’s not going. But like you said they have lasted 2 winters.. the joys of spending money on things you like and seeing if they work out is perfect.
I own these and absolutely love them. I wear them mostly without the insole and broke them in first without it. It was pretty tight at first with the insole. You mention the 875 is a 'beast to break in', but is the original classic Moc-Toe, and isn't that bad to break in...both of which use the Number 23 Last (shorter height). Nice review. These boots look realy nice .. I have mine in Black leather but I'm not sure about the type of tanning. Is it veggie or oil tan? The are realy good looking. I wish I knew a bit more about the black ones. Let me know when you get some.
Great video! Just bought one pair after see this! May I raise one question that shall I use another extra insole or just step on this cotton insole directly? thx bro!
Does the Cambrelle Lining really make that big of a difference in sizing? I've been told that where most people size down half down on the Moc Toes, the added Cambrelle lining on the Sawmill makes for a much snugger fit such that you need to size up to TTS.
How have these held up? I've just got mine today and I'm worrying that these will be a bit too narrow. However, I'm also thinking that the leather will stretch to my foot. Bit of an expensive gamble though, so just wondering how you've found them. Thanks for the review.
I'm into more of a casual thing like Doc Martens but maybe will give Herring a go if I get a bit fancy one day. Still enjoy watching these despite having no interest in buying them. Credit to you I suppose?
I recently picked up a pair of the Sawmill and noticed there is no heal liner like in most of my other boots. How is the material liner holding up or did it wear out? Should I add anything to it in order to keep it from wearing out?
Hi Can Anyone tell me the difference between this saw mill and the SawMill 2927 from J.crew? Seems to be the Same boot to me? Feel Free to answer if you can help 🤗
Question Is: Can you buy them if your a normal size? Redwing stores have a low inventory due to factory shutdown .... So what you See? May not be what you can get.
I wore Redwings for 20 years, but not for the last 20. They are not what they were 20-30 years ago. They don't fit me any longer, and they wear out quickly (if you are really working in them, not wearing them for a fashion statement).
I still wear occasionally for a bit of a hike, I must admit the ripple sole is quite hard under foot and would probably choose a lug in future.. but they are holding up well!
@TheNomdeguerre You can raise eyebrow all you like, Red Wing London recommend TTS on their official site and Stuarts London back that up in a review you can find on YT.
@TheNomdeguerre I know the point you’re trying to make, but it’s not consistent across all boots in the line as they are built on different lasts and have different toe boxes. This is covered in depth on Reddit. I agree with Iron Rangers, for example, that there’s generally a 1/2 to full size down required (I was a half) but it’s not uniform to everyone and your 99% comment in terms of Sawmills is patently incorrect.
@TheNomdeguerre just to confirm, there’s no translation issue. Red Wings are marked with both sizes, with US -1 to the UK which is consistent with other brands. The problem as you are aware is Red Wing’s sizing is a bit all over the place compared to other manufacturers.
@TheNomdeguerre fair enough. I think everyone has different feet, these aren’t custom built boots. However, I can tell you as of today that Sawmills fit me perfectly TTS whereas I had to go down half a size for Iron Rangers. In saying that, my feet hover between an 11 and 11.5 UK depending who I’m buying from. I have no idea what my Brannock is. But another good guide is the ball of your foot lining up to the break/widest part of the boot. Again, this varies between the Sawmills and Iron Rangers for me.
At $339 plus tax. I will pass Red Wings are Seriously over hyped and over priced. Too many fools feeding the fire, that's why their prices keep going up and up and up. 🤦🏼♂️
These are some of my most comfortable Red Wings and they were comfortable right away. Not much break in at all. I usually wear a 9.5 in Red Wing but I got a 10 in these to accommodate the insole.
They have been very easy to break in, I wondered about sizing with the insole, but found it was very low profile and did not fill the boot too much
love this kind of boots... the design , also the sole
Yes, they tick a lot of boxes for me!
@@DevonReviewer the only thing is kinda dislike is this thinning trend of the lasts in shoes...
Lovely pair of boots, sir! Not much of a moc toe fan but if I had the spare cash I could be convinced by these...
Damn you, I’m only just about to go place an order!!

You made a couple of statements that didn't sound right...so I had to check. The Sawmill model (2927) does NOT have a 'goodyear welt', simply a 'storm welt' (different construction). You mention the 875 is a 'beast to break in', but is the original classic Moc-Toe, and isn't that bad to break in...both of which use the Number 23 Last (shorter height). Only the newer model 1907 (came out in 2005) uses the taller 45 Last (so you can add insoles or double socks). Only the classic Moc Toe (875) offers a Goodyear Welt...all the others are simply storm welts.
It does have a GYW, check the official Red Wing site.
Goodyear welt and storm welt are not mutually exclusive; it is both. Have you worn the 875s?
Can also highly recommend the Red Wing 2931 Ice Cutter, with wool lining and Norwegian welt. Not sure if it is still in production.
I think they may be discontinued, but there is still stock around

Thank you!
Hi Can Anyone tell me the difference between this saw mill and the SawMill 2927 from J.crew? Seems to be the Same boot to me?
Feel Free to answer if you can help 🤗
Very interesting this style...can suggest to me where i should to buy this item (online) trusted shop and courier to Malaysia.
I think Herring ship internationally, check out the link!
They discontinued the Sawmill 2927?! Does anyone know why?
Difference between these and the Roughnecks besides the eyelets?
Question Is: Can you buy them if your a normal size? Redwing stores have a low inventory due to factory shutdown .... So what you See? May not be what you can get.
True to size is working out well for me on these!
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
I wore Redwings for 20 years, but not for the last 20. They are not what they were 20-30 years ago. They don't fit me any longer, and they wear out quickly (if you are really working in them, not wearing them for a fashion statement).
I should probably try to find some NOS and see how they have changed over the years!
Brand New model.
Yes, not many reviews yet!
Hi there, great boots, how do you get the code.
do you still wear the fracap boots ? curious how those are holding up !
I still wear occasionally for a bit of a hike, I must admit the ripple sole is quite hard under foot and would probably choose a lug in future.. but they are holding up well!
The hipster is strong in this one.
I am just the way god made me, sir!
400g or 800g?
Do these come in steel toe?
No, I dont think any of the heritage line do
So even with the insole and lining in them you'd still stick with the same size?
If you can try the boots on in store then do that. If not order 2 pairs of the sizes that you think would fit and return the one that doesn’t.
I will pass
Red Wings are Seriously over hyped and over priced.
Too many fools feeding the fire, that's why their prices keep going up and up and up. 🤦🏼♂️
*Too*
