    White's Boots Review - White's are among the best boots in the world, they are handmade in Spokane Washington by a team of skilled craftsmen. Whites boots super expensive and usually cost $500-$600 like their famous Smokejumper boots. So when they were released with a moc toe boot that was cheaper that Red Wing's Classic Moc, and half the price of their other boots a lot of people were excited and a lot of people were suspicious. So I got a pair to cut in half to see what’s inside and if they live up to the White’s name.

    A year and a half later, my Whites Perry boots are still holding up great! Strictly for casual wear. The carboard heel thingy's still holding their shape. I like the boots, nice and roomy! Went down a half size and wider width from my normal size 10-1/2. If I buy again, may go down a full size and stay with the wide width. Entering my senior years and need wider shoes for my big feet!! As always, thanks for sharing! Ken

    Quick Clarification - Whites doesn’t use the cardboard counter in the majority of their boots but they have the cardboard counter in the past in some of their more affordable boots with great success. As far as I know their regular $500+ boots use solid leather counters.

    Do you think you can cut a pair of muck boots in half? Specifically the Arctic Ice series, they feature 'vibram arctic grip' which is made out of some glass nylon or something. I'm not sure what it is, but the traction is incredible and I would love to see what's inside them. You just need to be prepared to send them back for exchange if they aren't built to your satisfaction. If they are for work only, and the looks aren't as important, they're great. I worked Oil Field Services in the Austin Chalk for 20+ years, and Red Wing slip-ons got the nod with almost every crew. Most saturated the boots, dumped them out, wore Thick socks on day one. Next day they were left to relax and dry completely. After that, the new ones were worn alternate days till broken in, then worn regularly unless wet through on a very wet location, as we did some board locations where swampy. My experiences were in a smaller company with around 100 hands. We set, knocked down, stacked and moved drilling rigs - Plumbed tank batteries - set pump jacks - all with pole trucks or cranes. Also, we supplied tooling - drill stem - and downhole equipment while standing, working in any weather we encountered. I hope this helps.

    I just purchased these as a work boot based on this video. Break in was a little tough with the biggest pressure point being the top of my feet but are starting to get really comfortable. I conditioned these boots immediately upon getting them and they definitely drank in the conditioner which I think helped with break in. Thanks for the great review and looking forward to getting them resoled with a leather mid sole.

    They could of beefed up the one they sent you, while the ones sold in the store may not have same Properties as the boots that were sent to you, by whites themselves 😳
    Makes sense?

      I agree with everything. Also half the point of a resole is to take it apart and put new cork in. Mind you I've never owned moc toes so I don't know how fast a human would chew through these soles, probably faster than vibram or even just leather. So maybe a full rework every couple of soles is all that is needed.

    • @vr6myk
      @vr6myk Před 3 lety

      Yeah either use the same sole, or if the resole goes deeper to replace the cork layer, a shank can be put between the cork layer and a different outsole that doesnt have a shank built in. Or use no shank like the redwings. The shank in the outsole is interesting though, I never knew they did that. I don't think I've seen that in all the resole videos I've watched from Trenton and Heath or Brian the Bootmaker or Bedo's. The shank is usually separate and in between the outsole and midsole.

I've been wearing boots for about 39 years for every work day. Until now, I always got blisters for the first couple of days. I normally wear 9EE and ordered 8.5EE per their website suggestion and they are the perfect size for me. I’ve got some input on the compressed cardboard counter… I’ve owned two pairs of redwing 914 boots and they had cardboard counters. After years of wear and sweat, the cardboard softened and the top edge curled in causing them to push against my feet just underneath my ankles. These counters were internal and the only thing between them and my feet was the waterproof liner so since the perry is externally countered, I don’t see that being an issue. Long story short, I had to make a small cut at the top of the waterproof liner and remove the cardboard counters. Not a good thing to do but the boots became painful and borderline unwearable with the counters curled in.

    Hey, I really enjoy your videos and this series was very interesting. Why do Moc-Toe boots all seem to have the wedge sole? I'm in Ireland and Its not something you would see on boots over here in Europe - unless it is someone actually wearing American boots. And thats very rare.

    • @thechief043
      @thechief043 Před 3 lety

      That's a good question, since I'm going to assume most of the hard working surface style jobs (where this type of outsole excels) are present in Ireland and the rest of Europe. Maybe the manufacturing process to make the soles themselves is more expensive there? Or maybe it's availability and the fact that the wedge soles wear out faster? Wedges are also not ideal for climbing ladders, maybe there's a reason related to that?

    After watching this video and the Moctober videos probably a dozen times I bought the Perry's boot. Here's my 2 cents. I almost bought the Red Wings but after all the horror stories about the break in period I decided it just wasn't worth the pain and trouble; it appears the sole will wear out right about the time they feel comfortable and broke in. I felt confident buying this boot after watching this video series. I wear a size 13 in all my shoes so I called Whites and they confirmed to order a size 12D. I've been wearing the boots 2 -3 hours a day inside for the past 3 days and will say these boots do run quite large and the 12D even feels almost too big in part because my width is between a B & C. Had I been in the store I would have liked to try on an 11.5 for comparison. I changed out the insole with a thicker insole and it fits better, hopefully it won't stretch out and be too big. The quality and workmanship of this boot is very good, they are heavier than I thought they'd be. Appear to be very tough with the exception of the Vibram sole.
