  • In this Video, I will review the New AirMaks Arms Katran in .25 Caliber. I will also go into detail on this airgun's features, "Slugging the Barrel" to find the groove diameter, adjust the regulator and show how well it shoots AVS .2513 slugs at 100 yards.

    This video had exactly what I was looking for. Asked on a few forums about adjusting the reg on my Caiman X but I guess it’s to new & no one what’s to tear into these things yet. No just need to tear it apart again a adjust it then start trying to find some slugs it likes!! Thanks for the informative video!!

    I just received my Katran X HB from Utah Airguns. What a well built rifle. Love this video since it has given me a huge head start with this rifle. I would note that as I crawled the rifle making all kinds of discoveries, I found something you might have also discovered by now. The stock has a very small hex set screw in the face of flat that mates to the rifle when you lock the stock into place. To take out the slop in the butt, all you do is adjust that screw out a bit. Mine is now where it locks in place absolutely solid but releases easily. 100% agree on everything else; superb trigger, super lite cocking action, beautifully assembled mags, etc. I've only found two things that I found strange or annoying. Annoying is that, as bad and incomplete many airgun owner's manuals are, this one is about the most spartan I've ever seen. Any of you out there thinking of getting one of these, definitely bookmark this video. There is 20x the info in this video than you will find in the manual. The strange thing is that on this long X HP version the manometer is literally directly under the barrel. To read the entire gauge you have to look under the barrel from both sides. This is probably the 4th time I've reviewed this video and now I am wildly anxious to get this rifle out and send some lead. Great video and, so far, a great rifle.

      Hey G wolfe, I was going crazy looking for this adjust screw you mentioned. couldn't find. I just saw the folding but stock adjustment screw in a photo online. My gun is a very early version it does not have the set screw to tighten the slop. I will have to drill and tap my own.

AEAC and Shooter1721 both stated that they knew the reg should be changed, but didn't do it, to the Katran and Caiman X they were shooting. Good for you, and lucky us! Quick question for you, your hammer is pushing on the valve at rest, do you plan on free floating it? I find that it usually helps with efficiency.

    Nice video, interesting gun. Never heard of it before. Very informative about measuring the chocked barrel and then being able to choose a slug diameter by the groves so you can still shoot slugs well out of some chocked barrels. Also can't believe how much difference such minuscule variances in weight/size can make on groups.
    I hate to say it but your sub $300 Liberties look like they out shoot this $1000+ gun, at least from the groups you have posted, the Liberty's also seem easier to tune/get more power from. I am sure the quality and trigger on the Katran is much better and maybe the potential is there to get it to put out better groups. Shot string is very consistent, maybe it just needs to be broken in/couple hundred pellets put through it to tighten the groups up.

    • @AirVelocitySport
      @AirVelocitySport  Před 3 lety +1

      It's a very different gun from the Liberty or Avenger. Smaller, lighter and very powerful. I have not even begun to explore the limit of power in this gun. It's at 70 fpe without any modifications. At 6 lbs it easy to carry and shoulder. Yes, the groups will definitely tighten up as the weather gets warmer and the regulator settles in. The barrel is seasoned fairly well. I have about 1000 rounds through it. I will update you by the end of the summer.

    Cool gun. Great video. I have a question if you don’t mind about the Liberty. When I fill the gun it has started to leak air slowly from the fill port. As you may have ran into this issue you may have a easy fix. I took it apart, bought a rebuild kit from Captain O-Ring and they provided an oring that I do not see in the original configuration. I used the oring with the ball and spring and now it takes forever to fill..5-6 minutes🤷‍♂️. If I loosen the brass screw that holds the spring a little bit it will start leaking again. At the moment with it tight it seems to have stopped leaking but nothing like the fill time it used to have.

    Sir I'm coming to you for answers because your the only one I've saw that knows the katran like you do. I turned my hammer spring in a little then a little more then I turned it in all the way. I loved how my gun shot. Well I've had to back off the spring because it had caused a leak. Think the spring pressure was to much to leave the hammer down. My question to you is where should I look for this slow leak? As it still has a slow leak. It never did before I made the spring pressure higher. I do appreciate and have listened to this class room type video many times. But have not touched my regulator....yet.

    • @AirVelocitySport
      @AirVelocitySport  Před 3 lety +1

      My gun to developed a small leak. So what I did was to submerge the entire power plant into a shallow pan of water. What I found was air slowly bubbling from one of the holes near the manometer. I could not understand what that hole with the threads was. I contacted katran and they told me that that is a vent hole for the manometer. The fix was to remove all the air and then tighten down the manometer as best you can replace everything back into the gun and fill and sure enough that did fix my leak

Any mic you're likely to buy will be accurate in your hand with a little practice. No need for expensive overkill.

    The review is far too long and overloaded.
    The average person cannot keep his attention and concentration for longer than a few minutes! After that his concentration slips..
    My advice :
    Keep it short and cut out the bla bla bla since it is distracting from the essential info.
    I'm not really impressed by the slug accuracy at 100 yards. I think you should differenciate between
    *gun review
    *slug review.
    Now it's tangled like Spagetti.

      Thanks for the advice. I do try to pack too much in one video with as much detail as possible. In the future I'll probable cut the video into two or three separate videos on a more specific topic

      He gets a lot of views and shares on air gun sites because he goes into a lot of detail about guns, taking them apart, modifying, shooting/testing different slugs/pellets which are very informative. His viewers like that and it makes his videos unique. If you aren't interested in slug accuracy out to 100 yard then you should probably watch something else and not complain. If you want short quick reviews for lower attention spans there are plenty of other ones out there.
