  • The Gateway Foundation is planning to construct a $75 billion spinning space station 400 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. The Gateway Foundation is a small start up with plans for two space stations in low-earth orbit: the Von Braun Station and Gateway Station. These bases will have artificial gravity, luxurious hotel rooms, apartments, and escape vehicles. The Gateway Foundation sounds amazing, but it is unsure how it will gain funds and execute its plans.

    I love that people are trying to make this happen already. So many people poo poo this idea but dismissing it is as short sighted as dismissing cars, airplanes and even rockets.
    There was literally 1000s of failures in the above mentioned businesses. For years people tried and failed to get them going, and often the competition took what they had developed, tried to advance it themselves, and failed again. We dont remember the failures and we remember the successes. And the Gateway Foundation may fail, but in their efforts theyre paving the way for the success of others

      There is a bit of a difference between a failure and an obvious scam.
      Unless you believe that a company which does not even have a building - their mailing address is a post-office box in a strip mall - is really planning to outbuild all the spacefaring nations combined, several times over, within just five years.
      There is no indication that they have done ANYTHING so far, except for producing some shiny renders and, of course, creating the buttons to send them $500.

    • @MareTranquil
      @MareTranquil Před 3 lety +1

      @TechnoMind While SpaceX is obviously not a flat out scam, I recommend that you do not trust Elon Musk. He is a habitual exaggerator. While a few of his promises have indeed materialized (especially the landing rocket boosters), many more were just insane. Remember how SolarCity was supposed to produce solar roofs that look like regular tiled roofs? Or how he'd build a tunnel boring machine that was 15 times faster than anything on the market? Or his promise of underground tunnels where cars would be transported autonomously with high speeds, which somehow devolved into a regular asphalt road tunnel? Or when, in 2017, he promised to send a tourist around the moon in 2018?
      For a current example, just look at his Spaceship. If he told us that this thing will one day transport 8 people to Mars, then yes, I'd believe that SpaceX might possibly pull that off, But Musk, being Musk, tells us that he'll cram 100 people into that thing. That would be 11 cubic meters per person, half of that probably for supplies, the rest split between his quaters, his part of the absolutely necessary exercise equipment, his spot in the shielded emergency retreat space for solar flares, and several more things. That is simply not going to happen.

    Projects like these gives us a glimpse of what is possible People complain about it being too expensive and out of the reach of the average everyday person.
    But guess what, so was airline travel. Airline tickets used to be very expensive and flying was a pastime of the upper class for most of the 20th century.
    It's the same thing with the automobile. The only people who owned cars in the early 20th century were the wealthy.
    It's the same thing with space travel, it's only within the last few years the cost of space travel has started to come down.

From taking off strapped to a rocket, then docking the station, then risk of any structural failure in the station means death... I can imagine a tiny meteorite ripping through it, then it´s game over. Then if you survived all that, you still have reentry in atmosphere and landing, where stuff can go wrong.

      The most dangerous vacation in the world... The risk of death is so high. From taking off strapped to a rocket, then docking the station, then risk of any structural failure in the station means death... I can imagine a tiny meteorite ripping through it, then it´s game over. Then if you survived all that, you still have reentry in atmosphere and landing, where stuff can go wrong.

    the module should be whide and not tall . the closer you get to the center the less gravity you have . and you do not want to burn fuel to spin fast .
    i believe that you need more rings or weights to conter balance the spin .
    the Gateway hub should be very small . only for doking . LGA is good . 4 tubes is a joke . you need atleast 12 tubes . to connect edge whit center .
    i believe that the Gateway will be build in the future , is a fine design .
