I lost hope that I'd ever get to see real space exploration when I was about 12 and realized the lofty promises of going back to the moon and on to Mars were just more government promises they never intend to keep. But now it seems like we have a real chance. I'm actually starting to believe again.
why are we set off fighting each other is it because various groups of people are good people that believe in altruism or are they child rapists that want a fresh load of victims regularly .are we not being divided and therefore conquered.

As an engineer I'm very aware of stack up of tolerances. How does the ring machine ensure that the two ends of the ring meet? It's such a huge scale. How do you account for thermal expansion and general misalignment of panels? Over that distance you could be quite a few centimeters or even meters off

SpaceX (or someone else) bringing the mass to orbit cost down has always been the keystone for making anything like this a success. They also happen to be making strides in the change of construction which will have carry over effects.

The intricacies of designing a fully functioning station is too much from a manufacturing/ development perspective, for the relatively small team that is working on solutions. In its current form, I see the project as a publicly funded thought experiment that is aiming to be ahead of the curve when the space industry matures. That or wait until it matures enough that someone is willing to invest big bucks into making this project happen.
I think that they are mentioning other companies like SpaceX because in their first video, they already mentioned that they plan on working with companies like that as they already have the resources and they already have the technology and other reasons I think it’s also just to get people more aware of where this project is going and getting more people on their side and funding them by showing the average population that some of this tech is already available and others in the works. Perhaps it will make the impression that it’s not so far away in the future and then we can actually make it not so far away in the future.
The need for advanced logistics will be crucial to the success of this endeavor. Ground based operations are already in place for large mega projects, launch based infrastructure is rapidly coming of age, the systems you are developing will need its own unique qualities to complete the mission ahead, and resupply is, as of yet, to be tested for large scale provision. All of these systems will have to operate seamlessly to be successful. Hope your business model is fruitful and profitable.

The military application of that air bus production line would be sick. NGADs built in a day with this type assembly line and 3d metal, poly and plastic printing. Have an AI run the whole show, give it a snazzy name like skynet and what could possibly go wrong.

the trick to building structures in space is building an inflatable Carbon weave tube structure with netting between each and using a Form of crystalization gel on the weave till it creates a coocoon which can be presurized with atmosphear once payloads can deploy in space and can be connected to gether then you can so some really big time shit in space. mega stuctures can be assembled peace by peace once you have a way to buuld ships in space and locate raw materials maybe from the moon you can eventually colonization becomes easier. asembling a stucture in segments wouldn't be a quick as Fabric and sealant foam. but having the strength of the webbing fabric needs to be able to deal with presure and also to install piping internally to keep feeding layers to thinken and harden the outter wall, eventually you can reinforce it with plating the major problem is not tilting the structure's orbit because it would still require earth's gravity to maintain a stable orbit. as all bodies in space are constantly moving

While Space Tourism or Space Hotels are fine a more functional use of a Dual-Ring Station is as a planetary Cycler. With the rings being matched to the gravity of Earth and its destination (such as Mars). In this way pioneers can be acclimated to their destination long before they get there.
As thos fits in more to Elon's Mars colonization plans you would gain more support from an organization already intending human interplanetary transfers. A Ring is ultimately the ONLY solution to interplanetary travel.
if it turns out David Pares' warp drive actually works, and someone invests in that, you'll not only get your warp drive - you might not need SpaceX, either...
500 people at 200 pounds per person would be 100,000 pounds of cargo, plus luggage and add food and water and you will max out your capacity. There really is not room for that many people. 4 floors at 100 people each would be packing them in like sardines. You would have about 500 square feet of useable space on each floor. Then there is the weight of all those seats. I think that a hop to orbit would be doable but not to mars or the moon with over 400 people. Then you have to have enough space to house them all. You are the only company thinking bigger is better like I am so I hope we both succeed.
Taken many decades to develop all that stuff for ship building, it's simply not going to be adapted to function in zero g without decades more testing, tweaking and in some cases having to go completely back to the drawing board.
I have a bold proposal for your engineering think tank: let's build a long and continuous space station with a minor angle change, inspired by the Italian Cellentani Pasta design extruder. Imagine a 300m spinning "Cellentani" shape station with two Sargon machines on either end, capable of producing and assembling different modules and components. This way, we can create the first 1 km spinning citytown in space, with all the amenities and facilities we need. We can also add external modules for space docking, arms and special manufacturing research modules. As development grows, we can expand our project to build the first "Cellentani" Dyson ring around asteroids for material mining, or even around the moon or the Earth. This is a visionary idea that will revolutionize space exploration and colonization. Make a video breakdown to show how we can create, launch, build, supply, service and manpower a "Cellentani" 1km long citystation, a presentation to illustrate the concept.
They are correct. In order to travel to another planet you do need to have a space port in SPACE that constructs that ship IN space. not on the ground. and be able to launch it FROM above the earth.
Thing is, you might as well build it on Earth and take off for outer space from here. Otherwise it won't be such a hot Space traveling machine will it?.
747 was actually made for the airforce competition for a new cargo transport aircraft, ultimately the 747 lost the competition to C5 galaxy, so boeing decided to sell the aircraft commercially.
According to multiple sources, the idea came from Pan Am CEO Juan Tripp who wanted a double-decker aircraft like you have on passenger trains with two levels. Boeing came back to him with the first wide-body design. They also gave it a little hump so there was also an upstairs too. Tripp ordered some and the rest is history.
Could a ship launch from the outside ring of a rotating station? I think ships should dock at the center then be moved to the outside. Don't forget one of the biggest reasons for the station is access to zero gravity. Living facilities can be on the outside but zero-G research and manufacturing shouldn't be an after thought. Docking at the stationary zero-G center is obvious but other ship operations may benefit from gravity.
Gateway should start smaller with something plain that generates revenue: An orbital fuel depot capable of receiving or dispensing fuel of multiple types to multiple ship/rocket systems. Make THAT work and then go bigger in stages to work yourself up to a rotating space station/dock.

I hope half a dozen welders answer here. I'm curious. I know we have already done some vacuum welding, i.e. the F-14 wing box. I was told that building the large vacuum chamber was more of a challenge than building the part.
I'm an amateur welder so take my answer with a grain of salt. If using arc welding in space the vacuum will negate the need for inert gases, so in zero G there is no gravity to steady the weld pool. Lower settings may help, and spatter needs to be collected in space or it becomes micro space junk. My guess is that laser welding or similar would be used for panels, and friction stir welding could be used for certain connections.

For example, that story about a capsule hatch that got stuck because the super cold molecules actually bonded two parts together. Very tidy, much less energy required, but I've no idea how to control the process.

Why not start building in orbit around the moon where you could mine material from the moon? Might have to build the first one with material from earth but after that mining the moon might be better
Don’t get my hopes up. When you get larger, try to get people who can’t afford all the schooling, teach them specifically your machines. You will have an endless supply of people who, otherwise, would never get a chance. This is a dream to a lot of people like me.

We went to the Moon when enough people wanted that dream to happen and the technology was there. We are showing you, and the world, that the technology to build large rotating space stations is here. Yeah, i cannot stop thinking about starship refuelling. If starships can dock, why wouldn't you dock 8 of them together, use the fuel tanks as habitats, like Skylab, and sls Skylab 2 concept. You have a lunar cycler. Take any animation of parallel refuelling, thats two starships now put tank and hatches 90 degrees dock 2 more then, dock four, now take the tail dock animations dock two docked 4s together, thats 8, each with more space than the ISS best approach to a lunar cycler is 3 of them. Same with landing and parking starships on the moon, or as stations and fuel depots in low lunar orbit. You don't need an orbital dock yard, but, if you wanted some space debris shielding, and to add an external hull and scaffolding to a group of starships, it may make it easier. The true opportunity, is getting a bus fare price ticket to orbit, 2 or 300 dollars, not everyone will go to the moon, but, an affordable ticket to orbit, thats space tourism, do it safe, people will pay for that veiw. People will work for it. But hotel accommodation on cyclers lunar stations and bases, that'll come.

Why you dont use A.I. to predict best shape and construction for space station and why not to make artificial gravity, tractor beams and print all automatically in space from big 3d printer. Everything is there to do it now and I know how.
Galaxy class (Star Trek) is in the Next Generation, NOT TOS and it's movies. TOS was "Constitution class". Not sure what the refits were (NCC 1701A), probably still Constitution class.

Just for the record,... the reason they can build the Enterprise on earth, and then lift into orbit, is do to something know as a Warp Field or Gravity Engine,.... a Warp Field or Gravity Engine can either be Full -On or Fractionaly-On,.... Fractionaly-On allows you lift things like a Starship, from a shipyard, into orbit from a terrestrial surface,... and that is why when the new franchize shows rocket thrusters being used to lift Enterprise into orbit it makes J.J. Abrams look out of touch with that universe.

Dream worth of working for but please be more realistic, because if you omit deal breakers, your dream is not realistic. You wouldn't want to use 1/4 impulse-power in space-dock as that is 6.25% of light-speed.

There really is not room for that many people. 4 floors at 100 people each would be packing them in like sardines. You would have about 500 square feet of useable space on each floor. Then there is the weight of all those seats. I think that a hop to orbit would be doable but not to mars or the moon with over 400 people. Then you have to have enough space to house them all. You are the only company thinking bigger is better like I am so I hope we both succeed.
They still have never show how the ring gets closed up. I guess that has yet to be engineered.
Taken many decades to develop all that stuff for ship building, it's simply not going to be adapted to function in zero g without decades more testing, tweaking and in some cases having to go completely back to the drawing board.
I have a bold proposal for your engineering think tank: let's build a long and continuous space station with a minor angle change, inspired by the Italian Cellentani Pasta design extruder. They are correct. In order to travel to another planet you do need to have a space port in SPACE that constructs that ship IN space. not on the ground. and be able to launch it FROM above the earth.
Thing is, you might as well build it on Earth and take off for outer space from here. Otherwise it won't be such a hot Space traveling machine will it?.
747 was actually made for the airforce competition for a new cargo transport aircraft, ultimately the 747 lost the competition to C5 galaxy, so boeing decided to sell the aircraft commercially.

Could a ship launch from the outside ring of a rotating station?
I think ships should dock at the center then be moved to the outside.
Don't forget one of the biggest reasons for the station is access to zero gravity.
Living facilities can be on the outside but zero-G research and manufacturing shouldn't be an after thought.
Docking at the stationary zero-G center is obvious but other ship operations may benefit from gravity.
Gateway should start smaller with something plain that generates revenue: An orbital fuel depot capable of receiving or dispensing fuel of multiple types to multiple ship/rocket systems. Make THAT work and then go bigger in stages to work yourself up to a rotating space station/dock.

Is welding in space easier than on earth, there may be no need to use argon or CO2 in the process?
I hope half a dozen welders answer here. I'm curious. I know we have already done some vacuum welding, i.e. the F-14 wing box. I was told that building the large vacuum chamber was more of a challenge than building the part.
I'm an amateur welder so take my answer with a grain of salt.
If using arc welding in space the vacuum will negate the need for inert gases, so in zero G there is no gravity to steady the weld pool. Lower settings may help, and spatter needs to be collected in space or it becomes micro space junk.
My guess is that laser welding or similar would be used for panels, and friction stir welding could be used for certain connections.

For example, that story about a capsule hatch that got stuck because the super cold molecules actually bonded two parts together. Very tidy, much less energy required, but I've no idea how to control the process.

You need asteroid iron for this station. It is impossible to lift such an amount of iron from the surface of the Earth.
Why not start building in orbit around the moon where you could mine material from the moon? Might have to build the first one with material from earth but after that mining the moon might be better

Yeah, i cannot stop thinking about starship refuelling. If starships can dock, why wouldn't you dock 8 of them together, use the fuel tanks as habitats, like Skylab, and sls Skylab 2 concept. You have a lunar cycler. Take any animation of parallel refuelling, thats two starships now put tank and hatches 90 degrees dock 2 more then, dock four, now take the tail dock animations dock two docked 4s together, thats 8, each with more space than the ISS best approach to a lunar cycler is 3 of them.
Same with landing and parking starships on the moon, or as stations and fuel depots in low lunar orbit. You don't need an orbital dock yard, but, if you wanted some space debris shielding, and to add an external hull and scaffolding to a group of starships, it may make it easier.
The true opportunity, is getting a bus fare price ticket to orbit, 2 or 300 dollars, not everyone will go to the moon, but, an affordable ticket to orbit, thats space tourism, do it safe, people will pay for that veiw. People will work for it. But hotel accommodation on cyclers lunar stations and bases, that'll come.

Why you dont use A.I. to predict best shape and construction for space station and why not to make artificial gravity, tractor beams and print all automatically in space from big 3d printer. Everything is there to do it now and I know how.

Just for the record,... the reason they can build the Enterprise on earth, and then lift into orbit, is do to something know as a Warp Field or Gravity Engine,.... a Warp Field or Gravity Engine can either be Full -On or Fractionaly-On,.... Fractionaly-On allows you lift things like a Starship, from a shipyard, into orbit from a terrestrial surface,... and that is why when the new franchize shows rocket thrusters being used to lift Enterprise into orbit it makes J.J. the only reason why they said Galaxy class cuz of of comparing the advanced tech the Galaxy class had and what it would take to build our own duplicate tech to that of the Galaxy class in future years but however building Duplicate tech to that of the TMP consitution class in other years was most likely a reachable possability if im not mistaken.

building large starships to traves the solar system and beyond is completely possible with current technology. starship will be the heavy lifter which is its best function. building large ships for colonization is more efficient than using starship. it is just simple math. if America does not take advantage of this and do this then others will and will beat America to the punch. catch up or be left behind is the moto of the day. time to step up or sit down and get out of the way.

Oh yes they talk all about what they are gonna do and that they have the ability and technology to build them BUT so far let most things it's just all talk no action.
