great review I will say Fanatec not wanting you to review the CSL cockpit screams "not worth the money" or something is wrong with the design if they trusted it why wouldnt they want you to review it?
There are already quite a few reviews of CSL Cockpit, just type CSL Cockpit in the CZcams search engine.
It's much more rigid than this cockpit.😉
Maybe shipping cost? But even that shouldn't be a problem for a compay like Fanatec, buyers beware!
@@Gizfreekactually fanatec is getting pretty deep into debt so so cost may be an issue for them
Thanks Will! Just saved me 400 bucks and confirmed that I will be choosing the Advance Sim Racing Asr 1!
I've had mine for 5 months now, super happy with it. Sure it's not a high end rig, but perfect for getting started. I'm 197 cm tall and haven't had any issues fitting in the rig.
I would say it’s perfect for years. Not only getting started. It’s a great rig set up at a point where the upgrade itself there but if you want it. Not like to be 0.5sec faster.
I'm 204cm tall, do you think I'd be comfortable in this rig? Been sizing it up for a while but I keep getting putt of due to past experiences with cockpits not suiting my height.
Exact situation for me, I am still impressed with the rigidity of the rig.
You can adjust the seat recline from “Toyota Camry to Subaru WRX” 😂😂 great description
Got Sim Lab GT1 Evo with monitor addon and tons of extra hardware for 400usd. Slapped on Madza junkyard seat and I'm set. I feel like my Asetek base would rock that thing.
nice, I went with the GT1 pro and a Corbeau Pro Sport seat
The 2 straps installed on the cockpit is the best advice I got on CZcams for the last 10 years!!! Great one !!!!
No other review mention that nice trick!!
I'd rather cut a sheet of plywood to fit and mount it to. I feel like this wood solve the issue as well. Get a nice sanded plywood and paint it black and get some pipe clamps and paint them black and mount it down with some half inch screws 🤔
Pun intended 😂
I picked one of these up off hard-waste, it was in perfectly fine condition and its been fantastic with my G920. I didn't know how it stacked up against other rigs so thank god for this review! But yeah if I upgrade pedals I might have to consider the rig too. Great review!
This sort of thing was fine a decade ago when 8020 rigs were really expensive and most people were running Logitech G25s or G27s, but things have moved on since GT Omega was selling this exact rig. DD wheelbases and load cell brake pedals are now much more mainstream, and rigs like this just don't cut it. I'm a little bit surprised to see this from NLR.
This rig isn't new. NLR has been selling this rig for well over 10 years so it's not like they've released a brand new rig that's inadequate. I find a lot of new sim racers and kids are still buying a logi or low end thrustmaster wheel which this rig is still perfect for if they want more than just a wheel stand
Depends what money is everyone willing to spend, i find it the best huy for the buck for a medium cockpit. I come from playseat challange amd g29, looking towards this rig and T300, who know's in a couple of years if i REALLY get hooked up maybe i will buy a simlab with a dd fanatec
@@user-li5lv7ep9k Its the same cost as a 80/20.
I use a desk.
But my pedals are screwed to the floor, and my desk is also.
The entire desk is braced in every direction.
I can't physically wobble it deliberately.
So for me, it would need to be a solid rig to make that jump
Thank you much your content is wonderful. Your review of the Fanatec DD pro caused me to purchase it....its great and your review was SPOT on. Yes ive seen other reviews but yours to me was the one that caused me to purchase it. I hope Fanatec takes care of you for it....happy racing 👍🏻
I had one of these years ago, looks like they haven't changed much in all that time - I would be saving up a bit more if I had the option, or find something second hand on marketplace - there's lots of these for sale.
I’m glad I watched this. I was really considering getting this, but as a streamer, I’m not willing to embarrass myself with the inconsistency that flex will give me. I guess I’ll have to find plans for an 8020 diy and order the extrusions. If anybody has a good and reasonably priced recommendation for a seat, please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated
Man... the timing on this...
Can you do a more up-to-date like Complete Best Value Total Build?
I’d like to see you actually get into and out of this (and all) rigs.
That can be a significant factor in terms of convenience.
Another great vid. If I can ask you a question.. I currently have a playseat evolution, which is okay, but I'm looking into upgrading soon. A profile rig is a bit too expensive atm, so what would you recommend? Keep the playseat evo and save up enough for the profile rig at around 1k with seat.. or sell playseat, get some entry cockpit like this one, use this while saving up for a profile rig and then later on sell the entry rig? (The playseat is hurting my back so thats why I'd like to at least upgrade to something more comfortable.
Wow great review your modifications give this a greater value
Im looking forward to your review on the new Fanatec csl cockpit for comparison.
I just bought some aluminium and added a proper monitor mount and it’s improved it so much
Great well rounded review my only question is if u have any experience with the GT Omega Art and whether or not it’s worth the extra money or if the GTRacer is better value.
I will be using it with the Moza R3 whenever it comes out and possibly upgrading to an R12 at some point
Im quiet happy with Playesrat challenge G. But I dont own a DD yet. Got tlcm load cell brake on it and their pedal brackets are most imoressive with lvl of adjustability and rigidity.
Better save up for something a bit better, it is still a lot of money and it is almost guaranteed to start annoying you after a while. Unless you are really into straps of course.
First I was a little bit shocked about the 400$ but with a seat it's a great price if you want to get a first rig and don't want to spend about double for a good extrusion rig with a seat.
Hi Will, have you ever looked at any of the GT Omega cockpits? They make some great setups that are really solid and very well priced.
Hello love the content and honesty in your videos! Quick question, could you maybe review the simagic P1000? I find that you're reviews are generally the best and most in-depth. Greetings from Belgium!
Thanks. Yep we’re working on it
@@boostedmedia Thank you!
Woah woah, wait.... Fanatec said they don't want you to review the CSL cockpit?? Why not???
They just said they want to try other reviewers.
Check out oc racing’s review of it. I am extremely far from impressed with it.
probably because it's not that good 🤣
I was literally looking at this last night before bed. I’m about to buy my first cockpit and have been trying to decide what to get. I have around $400 and don’t know if I should build one with 8020 or buy one. I just got Asetek load cell pedals that I can’t use until I get one and I plan on getting a DD in the future, so I need it to be able to handle at least 12nm. Thank you for this video. Time to learn lol
Check the used market, I have a GT Omega Titan on wheels which is very solid but has some limitations.
@@ricepony33so pleased to see your comment. Nobody ever seems to mention GT Omega. They make great cockpits and are very reasonably priced.
I looked at something like this but also ended up getting the Titan. Its awesome for the price and it seems to be pretty much the best one that isnt a profile rig for rigidity. I added the wheels too and its life changing. Haha
@@chrissyboy7047 rolls perfectly into my hallway closet, no one even knows it’s there.
Hey Will, are you going to review the upcoming Ascher wheels?
I would love for you to put it through its paces!
Been sure about getting the ultimate for a long time, but lately I've been second guessing...
Sure am :)
That looks almost identical to my GT Omega cockpit I've had for about 6 years now.
my 2 cents here, I got an obutto ozone almost a decade ago along with an oculus rift dk2, to play live for speed with a very old logitech g25, it was cheaper than this gt racer, but even better it has attachments for hotas and I still use it today for dcs world, with a VARJO AERO, so not sure the one you talk about here is the best value
do you do give aways for all the wheel bases you review? or are the loaned
Noticed in the last few review vids you have dropped the graphic of the costs which I think is a shame as it makes it much clearer. Also help you find that part of the video when scrubbing back to that point.
I would probably just get some sheets of thick MDF to build a floor, then drill some holes through the frame or use some brackets and bolt the frame down to the floor. You could then build your own solution for strengthening the shifter by making use of the MDF floor. Way back in the day this is what I did to remove any flex in my Vision Racer VR3 rig and I covered the wooden bits in carbon fiber wrap. You could definitely make this into a decent rig with some ingenuity, question is will you be happy. If chances are you will likely want to upgrade your wheel and pedals at some point then you might as well just buy the cheapest 8020 rig and a cheap second hand seat that you can find. Upgrades are much easier if you have a very solid base to begin with, that's what I learn't the hard way.
Yep that would definitely work.
Are you still going to review the Alpine Racing TRX?
Hello, i'm new to sim racing, and i would have liked to buy a rig, i'm thinking about a TR120 or 160, bought a DD pack from fanatec and for a seat on a rig, can you use a seat from something else, or do you need to buy one from the rig itself? thanks!
Solid experience.
Regarding pedals and height. If you are tall (I am 6'2'' or 187cm), and if I want my pedals forward, well, I cannot, because eventually my feet are getting caught in the upper frame. Maybe not an issue with left-foot braking, but if you have clutch and want to switch your right foot to the middle, it is a problem.
Also - if you are tall - when you put the seat all the way to the back, you are limited on mounting the wheel close enough and the shifter mount is absolutely way too short.
That said, I think this is rigid enough, even with a load cell pedal.
To make this more rigid (without the tie-down straps) I would use u-bolts to bolt it down. My plan is to have a rectangular frame under this with wheels, then bolt it down with u-brackets/bolts to the frame.
ps: you can also mount the wheel support's vertical supports asymmetrical. In case of a right-side shifter, you can move the left one forward 2-3 holes. That way it is easier to get into the rig, without significantly affecting rigidity. Also gives more leg-room.
I put 3M brand velcro strips on my pedals so they grip the carpet better.
If you are a smaller adult and use a lower powered wheel it is probably okay. No shifter or hand brake would work, use the flappy paddles. There are better options. Some angles, t-nuts and some profile you could build a better rig.
Is Fanatec trying to cover up a poor product when not wanting you to review it? 🤔
There are already quite a few reviews of CSL Cockpit, just type CSL Cockpit in the CZcams search engine.
It's much more rigid than this cockpit.😉
I upgraded to a cheap alu profil rig after having tried plenty of such flippy floppy rigs. Regardless, those floppy rigs are great for people who just want to give it a try without having to use your brain too much.
When someone buys new product they should really not need to add ratchets etc to fix a problem that manufacturer neglected
You really don't need them, he was pushing way more force than you do while driving, I have this same rig no such issues!!
I don't use a shifter or brake so not worried about it!
I'm torn between the fanatec one and this. I think the fanatec will be more rigid, definitely looks better and will fit my particular setup better but for the same price this one comes with an adjustable seat which is also on a rail, unlike the fanatec setup that has no seat and is hard mounted. I hope Boosted Media can somehow get their hands on one since Fanatec doesn't want them to review it for whatever reason!
anyone tried adjusting and fiddling with the CR-P pedals on these, I bought both and they're on the way. should've done more research but, i can return it if it doesnt fit. just curious if I can make it work.
We weren’t able to make it work with the adjustments available on the pedals themselves. Maybe a wooden wedge under the pedals could tilt them up enough
Now I prefer the Titan that one's just unstable
The Titan is in a totally different league and similar money
Have you looked at the CSL cockpit?
google: "fanatec csl matt olc"
i liked my gt omega rs6 pro.
I started on the version that came before this one. It maybe okay for a child with a belt drive, but for adult on DD, I don't recommend it at all. Better off saving a few $100 extra and getting something more sturdy.
Does BoostedMedia regularly not review products if the manufacturer asks not to? Seems like you have already said the most damming thing possible by saying they don’t want a review, which surprised me. But it also damages your credibility as an independent reviewer in my opinion If you won’t review a product from a major manufacturer of sim gear because they don’t want you to. Giving this cockpit a no confidence vote does give me confidence. Just wish we could get an honest review of the fanatec cockpit. People like you keep these guys honest by clearly stating the pros and cons of products. Still love you guys! ❤🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️
It’s not sustainable for us to buy everything we review, so we try and keep it fair by having the same conditions for every manufacturer, that waythere is no favouritism, etc.
You can read our full policy linked under every video.
nice shoes
fanatec not wanting to send you that csl cockpit seems like a clear red flag. "We're not confident enough in our product to give to a reviewer with the sheer honesty and influence that you have...we'll pass!" lol
I have last years version and its ridged as i don't understand whats wrong with it, EDIT oh i just noticed the old one braces the shifter from the bottom railings and makes it more ridged , wow this ver sucks
What is fanatec trying to hide? That is sad, because your reach could possibly get more people into a cockpit. Its a shame you need to DIY a 400.00 cockpit, that is alot of money, and not far off solid 8020's.
Your also missing the front bolt on the bottom bracket where your saying the flex is, put these bolts in and remove the dumb ratchet strap!!! Plus your putting 3times more pressure on the pedal than will ever be needed!!
i dont know where you got that the trophy is more than the double of this... not even close, in EU at least they are about 200€ apart...
you can tell hes fucking disgust just sitting next to it 😝😘
dam bit bendy
Some 3D printed C channels could probably have the same effect to reduce flex and still keep it easy to dissasemble
Could you elaborate?
Yeah not sure what you mean
Are you still doing the review on the pagani huayra pedals?
I was looking forward to that one
Woah, Fanatec told you they dont want you to review their cockpit? Thats a bit suspicious.
I'm 6'6 it's probably too small for me right ?
im 6'3 and barely fit, if you put the seat back as far as possible, the legs will be fine. But, youll have to extend your arms a lot to reach the wheel, sometimes it gets uncomfortable. the shoulders also feel tight because of the seat. Planning to get extensions for my wheel base to fix the arm issue tho. I can imagine it'll be a lot more uncomfortable for you.
@@niborismm I appreciate it man, thank you !
Your FOV seems really far away!! I have this same rig my monitor is 32" away on a stand alone frame I built, best value for the money especially when shipping was free, other companies wanted $400 or more just for shipping,
Why is rock solid rig never in budget rigs? 350€ on their page (without seat) and it seams that rig beats most rigs on the market???
We haven't tested one.
I hope you can get hold of one to review, would love to see your opinion
any1 else notice the Ferrari in the back (nvm its a lotus XD)
My budget is max 300 bucks but I don't want that foldable shit 😅😂
Entry level cockpits make no sense now that you can get a great 80x20 aluminum profile rig for $400-600
This rig has one massive flaw: very little adjustability. I've got this rig, and with my LC100 pedals it's totally unusable. Pedals are fully vertical, and with the plate being at an angle, it's one of the worst experiences ive ever had with pedals, sadly
No good for Asetek style pedals
Thing that pisses me off the most with NLR is that their entry level products seem to have rigidity issues on purpose. Like it's not that hard to make triangles with metal tubing..
This this is so perverted.... Good review though Will
it so shocking to me companies come out with trash like this when small alum rig are the same price who would ever buy this crap its an ebay special. should be more then 150 200 and even that is to much
what a sh1t product, if your having to add ratchet straps to eliminate a manufacture defect then you should be asking your self, maybe i may have been better off saving up more for a rig that dont flex
My desk is 10 times more solid 😂
@@GregoryShtevenshLOL I came to say the same thing.
No kidding!! With heavy usage I can see this thing being a cracked piece of junk in a year or less?!?!?!? My second custom rig years ago, a Playseat GT served we well for several years. As time went on, I started hearing cracking sounds when braking heavily! When I finally investigated, sure enough the holes in the brake mount area had all cracked, bent, elongated!! I gave it to a buddy which happened to be a welder and he fixed it up for his young fella to use. It's now in Playseat Heaven! 🤣😉
I bought myself the R-seat S1 tubular rig which is a whopping 210 pounds without my gear attached! The thing could survive a Mad 12 EQ it's so strong! 😄As Will has stated, it can be challenging to mount add-ons to these things, yet, I was able to make things work for my needs. They no longer make those big tubular frames, having gone with the Profile type.
The old adage, you get what you pay for couldn't be more true, for those that buy this thing, thinking they are getting a good deal?? 😟☹
Why are you blocking my posts on fanatec owners site on facebook?I am a fanatec owner why the censorship?
Not blocking anything. Facebook probably flagged something.
junk
actual trash. 400 scam. i hate NLR. Their pricing is toxic to the hobby, i hope they go out of business soooner than later
