  • BBC News Arabic’s undercover investigation exposes the people in Kuwait breaking local and international laws on modern slavery, including a woman offering a child for sale.
At the centre of this powerful investigative film is Fatou, a 16 year old in Kuwait City who has been there for nine months. We follow her rescue and journey back home to Guinea, West Africa and ask: what’s being done to control the apps promoted on Google, Apple and Facebook-owned Instagram?

The simplest thing is to suggest to authorities is to build a dedicated facility where these domestic workers can go on their off days. A governmental facility where they can exercise, relax, chat and spend a documented one day off per week. This will ensure all domestic workers have one day off, and they can also complain to the authorities in case of abuse.
employers will be more carefull when they know authorities are watching and that they see the worker once every week.

About 25 years ago, I remember a friend’s child was kidnapped at Disney. A Kuwaiti couple had kidnapped the young girl to take her to their country to work for them. They drugged her, changed her clothes, dyed, and cut her hair. Disney closed down every entrance and exit. Thank God her parents had a recent photo of their daughter. Everyone working Security looked at the faces of every child going out of the park and she was retrieved. These people think they are better than everybody else. I’d never let anyone go to work in the Middle East. Who knows if you’d ever see them again!

One of the main reasons why these young (so called hired help) women (teens) get tortured by their female owners is that in these Arabic speaking countries, women are considered lower than their male counterparts.... they are bossed around by their men, but within the four walls of their homes, these same narrow minded women owners want to feel like a Queen.... so they take out all their frustrations on these young girls. In a nut shell, in most cases, its a Woman who is actually giving Hell to their maids and rules them like a ruthless Dictator. Therefore the social structure in countries like Kuwait needs to be addressed here.... and that's the root cause!!!
