The measurements for the handle are 6in x 8in. Fold in half leaving the strap 8in wide. The base of the holder is 7.5in x 15in. fold in half to attach the strap.
It depends on how large you want the top. I use 11 which makes the top just over 5 inches after 1/4 in seam allowance. If you want your fabric to hang longer, or if the handle you are putting it on is large, go with the longer. The length of the top is a personal preference. You only need two pieces of fabric.

I use one towel, the band is 10 x 7 inches or 12 x 7 depending if you want a longer hanger. The band is 7.5 x 8 folded in half then half again so rough edges are hidden.
The towel is very pretty but as others have said, you were not detailed enough on measurements and how you folded the towel. If you correct these steps it would be a great video. I hope I find the little oven mitts that match as I would like to make those.

I did, but I would recommend half a towel to minimize the bulk.
