You can put a straight pin across the end where you want the buttonhole to stop. If you slip cutting the hole open the pin will stop you from cutting too far. Thanks for sharing this tutorial. ❤️

These are really cute. Definitely want to make these!! Your design is very nice … love using the butterfly in the design for your ctr front❤
You mentioned your thread breaking. This may help… a couple things that can cause your thread to break. 1- Sewing through the thickness of the layers can dull your needle & and/or bend it a bit. Change the needle to a medium or heavy wt. 2- Use different thread. Sometimes it’s really old or just not the right one for the job. 3- The bobbin… round to tight. 4- It can be the tension; set to tight. Tip: Unless you know what you’re doing never adjust the bobbin tension. It’s preset from the factory. When I was a new sewer, many yrs ago I messed mine up so bad I had to buy another bobbin case. Usually the presser ft adjustmt or upper thread tension will be fine. Obviously start w/ the needle, it’s the easiest to chk. P.S. your granddaughter is really cute!!

Thank you for the tutorial, I have my pattern cut out and the instructions written, now to find time to do it. I have not made buttonholes in a long time, but when I cut mine open, I used a wooden clothespin to place underneath and then slit with the seam ripper, not the pinch kind of clothespin, the old fashioned common kind, you could still put a straight pin at the end so you won't go too far with your cutting. I am wondering if I could not just use a whole hand towel to make a bigger towel to wipe your hands on instead of cutting in half, especially for the bathroom.

Marylin another lady told me about the pin, and I have been doing it ever since, I cant believe I didn't know to do that, lol. I think using the entire towel would be great, I gave a sneak peek of a new hanging towel in my January Sew Sampler unboxing that actually uses two towels. I unfortunately have to wait a couple days before I make the tutorial, because I have lost my voice🙁. I have bad luck, lol
