Thanks for keeping me going on this A17. Still no word from Boyd's when we will see this stock released. My credit card is ready. Can't wait for some fun shooting with this one

lots of precision shooters clean the bore with powder solvent only leaving the cooper to season the barrel. the barrel will tell you when it needs to be cleaned of copper. the groups start opening up. the copper protects your barrel life also.

I too have found the CCI 17 grain TNT hollow points to be the most consistently accurate of all the offerings. I also notice the a17 ammo just didn't group well at all but with the tnts out of a Savage 93r17TR I have had some dime sized four and 5 shot groups. occasionally with flyers too but I am looking at coming up with a way to bed the 93r17TR. It is a strange action as far as the way it mounts to the stock. Here is a great write up somebody did on bedding the 93 series. A little more in depth and more cutting and modifying the stock than I would like.
I was thinking about some sort of pillar bed to free float the action. Possibly using washer bent to the contour of the stocks inlet to act as a type of pillar bed.

here is a link to the article I saw I don't really want to do that much modding of the stock because of the same problems he had. I'm think more along the lines of a creative pillar system.
I really wanted to get your thoughts on how you would go about bedding this particular action because 1 I can tell you know what your talking about and we think a lot alike. Any suggestions as to how to bed a 93r17 action in the simplest way possible would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for taking the time to put these vids together. I subbed right after I watched the first video I watched of yours.
Another point I would like to raise, I have put over 1,000 rounds through my savage 17. when I got it I didn't know much about barrel break in and didn't think it was all that important. When I got it all I did was run a wet patch with mpro7 through to clear out any debris, ran a dry patch to clear out any residue and started shooting. I put maybe 2-300 rounds before an employee at a gun store told me I should be cleaning after every shooting session. So I started to do that and noticed my accuracey degrade significantly. Stopped cleaning and after a couple boxes of ammo things tightened up again. My gun needs to be dirty to get the most accuracy as does my Savage MKII FVSR in .22 LR. Also it seems to be carbon fouling that makes the differences as I have never removed copper other than the break in on my .22. I have tried to clean copper on both guns one time (I shoot copper jacketed ammo out of my .22 95% of the time). Barely got any colors out of either gun so I assume they aren't coppering up much. I don't clean copper after having done more research and hearing what a civilian long range scoped rifle instructor that works with delta, seals, marsoc, rangers, etc says he did an experiment I didnt remove copper for 4,000 rounds out of a surgeon .308 and a Larue OBR in .308. Said he saw no difference leaving the copper in, once he removed it the guns went to around 2 MOA guns, 43 rounds later they were back to they're sub minute groups. Anyways kind of a side tangent sorry for the length.
Last thing I wanted to say was that I have noticed that the 20 grain pills in .17 HMR really do much better at longer ranges. That little bit of extra weight doesn't seem like much but it sure does help from 175 out to my personal max range with a .17 hmr at 400 consistently ringing a 12x11 piece of 3/8ths steel. I can break down cinder blocks piece by piece at 350. I have connected at that range with all the bullets offered and will say that this is how they performed as far as the best damage at that distance. 1. CCI Game point 20 gr and Hornady 20 gr XTP (which have become harder and harder to find these days).2 CCI FMJ 20 gr. I find these to be great all around other than shooting pdogs. They are effective just not quite as explosive as something with an expanding or exploding tip. 3 CCI TNT hollow points .17 grain. I was able to stack three of these in about a 1.3" line at 200 yards. they leave a nice crater in the block.
Basically what Im getting at is would you do a video on the 20 grain loads? maybe an unscientific terminal ballistics type video? and compare and contrast with a standard vmax? One thing that bothers me is at least in my state they seem to be trying to phase out everything but the vmaxs, I bought my HMR so I could have the different capabilites of the different rounds which all have their place in my mind. If it came down to me only being able to get one load it would definately be the 20 gr game point or the .17 gr tnt hollow point. So any vid along those lines would be greatly appreciated, I am going to work on one myself. Sorry for the lengthy messege and I hope you read it and let me know what you think. one of my emails is jordon.lorenzo@gmail.com Thanks a million cavedweller!

another reason that the none Vmax rounds seem to be more consistently accurate (for me at least). I heard that all the HMR stuff comes out of the same factory but I have seem data that shows the CCI vmax having a different B.C. from hornady and when I switch form hornady to CCI I do have to make some minor scope adjustments.
Here's another article from Hornady talking about their new ELD match bullets. Apparently the polymer tips on the Amax and Vmax bullets can melt with enough heat from the gun. With the HMRs relatively higher pressure (and I assume heat) relative to say a .22 LR this could be a factor in the vmax loads not being as consistent or accurate. what do you think? Heres the article really interested in trying some of these bullets in a center fire, could be the next Berger VLD (go to long range match bullet)

Want one but am still worried about all of those who are posting that the magazine falls out after taking a shot. Have you had any trouble with that? Is it possible that the custom work you've done on yours fixed a problem that a stock A17 would still suffer from?

+Aaron Neumeyer Sorry for being slow to answer. I had that problem once or twice at the very first, since then I have inserted the mag until it SNAPS into place. done so, it will never fall out. I don't think the stock you have will make a difference, If not inserted fully, you will more than likely have a failure.
