    So much more elegant than my method. I just cut branches from the garden and steeped the entire thing in the simple syrup liquid. The plant was healthy during the winter, but a cold storm that we had last month might have done some serious damage to my rosemary and lavender plants... Hoping they breathe new life once the Spring really starts to warm up.
    For mother's day, we grilled lemons, added some lavender syrup and water, to make grilled lavender lemonade.

    I have about 14 lavender plants and I plan on making this. When you say buds….are you talking about the flower part? And if so, do you pick at full peak, after or before? Do you let them dry out first? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get this right the first time. Thank you so much for the video.

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před 3 lety

      Of course you can. It shouldn't make it bitter. But if you are concerned about that just treat it like tea and don't let it sit on the stove. Strain it after five minutes instead. Just play with it. If it goes bad, at least you know! Thanks for the comment!

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před rokem +1

      I do yes! It's got a medium viscosity. Just test it out before the big pour. You can always make a 1/2 this recipe and see how it goes. If it need to be thicker you could make it a 2:1 (2 C sugar to 1 C water) But it's going to be sweeter that way. This is an interesting use for it. If you think of it, come back and let me know how it goes! Thank you for the question!

    Do the lavender buds need to be dried, or can they be fresh?

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před rokem

      They really should be dried. I have tried it fresh. It is to grassy that way. It's stronger because the oils are fresher. I collect buds from my flowers all summer and keep them in a mason jar so I can make the syrup in the winter. I used to get them at my local health food store when I didn't have plants. I use it in my Earl Grey tea sometimes as well. Thanks so much for the question! Check out the other cocktails with lavender on my channel. They are so wonderful. Cheers and enjoy your weekend!

  • @gemcleanse3124
    @gemcleanse3124 Před rokem +1

    Mine came out bitter lol I left it longer thinking it would be stronger in lavender taste. Is that the reason?

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před rokem

      Very much so. You can leave it to cool on the syrup for a while, but just don't boil it. It's like green tea in that sense. If you leave it to long it will be bitter. Boiling it to long can do that as well. Maybe put the lavender in and turn off the heat, make sure the sugar is incorporated, let it steep for a couple of minute and then strain. But these days I generally get the water hot, but not boiling, get my buds in, then my sugar, and I can let it cool with buds and all on the stove. Then strain. Key is not boiling it really. I hope this doesn't confuse you! Try again! Thanks for letting me know!

    can you use coconut sugar or any alternative sugars?

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před 2 lety +1

      I love that Idea. From what very little experience I have with coconut sugar the moisture content is higher, and it does have (for me) a tiny coconut flavor. So that could make a difference in the flavor profile. But I think you really should try it. You can always cut the batch in half so you don’t make as much.
      You may need to add a bit more lavender buds to compensate, but if you are used to using coconut sugar…you may not even notice a flavor difference. Do me a favor, if you do make it that way, come back and let me know. Love to hear how it went!

    • @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn
      @TheHomeBartenderwithAnn  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, around the 0:29 mark, but I generally use about a tablespoon of dried lavender buds. I'll tell you how to do it. Boil your water, put the buds in. Add the sugar, stir until all granules are dissolved turn that off. Let it rest and cool, fine mesh strain it into a bottle and you are good to go. I cover these instructions in the first minute. Honestly, most of the time I let it infuse overnight and then strain it. But you can do it after it cools. Cheers my friend!
