  • 🖤Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur looking to up your coffee game, or you’d like to save some money while flavoring your morning coffee, this homemade vanilla syrup recipe is for you!
With just four ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can make a syrup that would cost you two or three times as much to buy in the store.
Not only is it relatively simple to make, but you’ll also be surprised with its ability to give drinks a burst of flavor. Plus I'll go over different types of vanilla you can use to flavor this (vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste, and a whole vanilla bean), and other ways to customize it!

    🖤VANILLA SYRUP RECIPE:
    ◼Ingredients:
    1 cup sugar (see note)
    1 cup water
    1 pinch salt (optional)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste, or 1 whole vanilla bean
    ◼Instructions:
◼To Make with Extract or Paste:
Place the sugar, water, and salt in small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Turn heat down to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes, until all of the sugar dissolves.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.
Allow to cool a bit before pouring into a glass airtight container.
◼To Make with a Whole Vanilla Bean:
Split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, leaving one end intact.
Place the sugar, water, salt, and vanilla bean in small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Turn heat down to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes, until all of the sugar dissolves.
Remove from heat, cover, and allow to steep for 10 minutes.
You can either discard the vanilla bean, or put it in your storage container.
    ◼To Use in Drinks:
For each pump of vanilla syrup, use 1/2 tablespoon of your homemade syrup.
    ◼To Store:
Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3-5 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. If you keep the whole vanilla bean in the syrup, make sure to store in the refrigerator.
    ◼Notes
To make a rich simple syrup, increase the sugar to 2 cups. This will result in a thicker syrup, which could clog up a pump, but it will also last longer.

The way I just got an espresso machine and was trying to figure out how much syrup Starbucks uses. Will probably use this recipe :D

I made this with a third of a vanilla bean today and stored it in the fridge. Can’t wait to taste the results, and if it is good I’ll buy more vanilla beans!

I'm struggling to understand why it would spoil so quickly.. Is it the vanilla bean/vanilla bean paste that spoils? Because neither water, salt or sugar would spoil... Or am I missing something?

Sugar and oxygen are a hearty diet for aerobic bacteria.

So clearly there’s a huge difference between favoring and extract then? Could I possibly make a syrup with my ube flavoring? Or would I need straight ube extract? 🤔

Flavoring will work - it all depends on the flavors you like! I personally much prefer pure vanilla extract over imitation vanilla flavoring, but Starbucks uses flavorings, so if you like their signature flavor, flavoring would actually be a closer approximation. If you like how your ube flavoring tastes, it would probably be good in a syrup!

I do not have much experience with vanilla essence, but if you enjoy the flavor, it should work here!

The syrup doesn’t look thick though? Is it supposed to be slightly watery?
