Scaloni doesn’t get enough credit for the rebirth of this Argentina squad. He came in as an interim and did everything almost perfect. Emiliano Martinez, Romero, Lo Celso, De Paul and Lautaro Martinez completely transformed this squad and Messi got the help he needed so badly

All are new additions to scaloni's team. Now they have a fixed starting xi. Bench strength. Flexible tactics. Apart from that scaloni knows the strength and weakness of each and every player. Also calling up those same players on every qualifer friendly matches and fielding them consistently will create a strong bond. That's important. just watch the recent arg v Uruguay match. Then messi with that hat-trick in away game against Ecuador saved their pride tho it was expected Argentina would do bad in WC. Post 2019 Copa America with some changes in teams Argentina bounced back and hope it stays atleast till 2022 WC.
