This Plymouth Barracuda has a windscreen on its floor.... You'll see why

- POWER! Something this Plymouth Barracuda has in spades. The wheelie would make it very hard to see where you're going, but Bob Riggle has thought of that with the floor windscreen. Genius!
With 2,500HP it doesn't take a lot to get a wheelie going.

Rear engine. A location of weight that helps with wheel-stands.
Props to him for repeating the wheelstand for EVERYONE, not just the crowds at the beginning, but the safety workers near the end as well!
Looks like he tried to wheelie every straightaway đđ»wonder how much fuel he burnedđ
Did You know he steers the thing while wheeling with separate brakes? Love this thing glad to see it back running again!
thats something i noticed early. really cool and definitely mainly a showcar ^^
The footage is from 2001
did not, thanks for sharing!
i was thinking if he was doing exactly that cuz the car was looking controllable while wheeling
@@SMlFFY85and modern day ufo footage looks worse
Bob is an amazing fellow. Aside from piloting this thing for near 60 years, he's just a genuinely nice
man as well. If you get the chance, say hello to him!
- Ed on the Ridge
I've been a fan of the Hemi Under Glass since I was a kid; almost sixty years now... and this is the first time I've seen it go around corners that weren't drag strip turnoffs for the return road.
Damn dude you old af đđ were you around for the civil war?
I remember seeing it on those late night car shows that would be on random channels at 2am Sunday morning or something of that nature when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's
Glad he got the old girl fixed up and pointing towards the sky again. What a crazy machine!
This is very old footage
@@Rentta This is also not the HEMI Under Glass that rolled with Jay, that was the 1968 Supercharged replica, this is the fuel injected 1966 replica
@@OldTownRanch Thanks!
Yea this is well before he a Jay Leno barrel rolled it
Hurst Performance built 9 HEMI Under Glass Barracudas from '65 to '75. The one that rolled was from '69. This one was built in '66. Cheers. Leigh.
Wasn't the first one in 1964?
What?? Hurst built these?
It may be the festival of speed but sometimes going nowhere fast is just as fun
Unreal that it can do that on an unprepped surface.
The motor is in the back
@@Leigh666XF yeah the header collectors exiting at the rear axle in the thumbnail is a dead giveaway
So you gon make this comment but pretend we dont see ur username and pfp? đđđđ
@@Leigh666XF so is a 911. Itâs not popping a wheelie every throttle jab. Lol
@@typedrew Because it's specifically designed not to. This was built explicitly to do wheelies by putting the motor in the back and having very little weight over the front axle
glad to see Bob is still out with the Hemi under Glass. It was a real thrill watching him at one of the national drag races back in the 70's!!!! i wonder what the folks in England thought of this!?
Bruh this footage is from like 1999 đ
We have rocket Ronnie who's been doing this since I was a kid over here đ very very cool

"Crazy Yanks"
@@Motor-City-Mike You're spot on there Mike. There used to be (maybe still are, I'm not sure) tours of wheel standers that would have match races at the local drag strip. I worked at one outside of Syracuse NY around 1966 -67. Bill Maverick Golden and his "Li'l Red Wagon" was matched against the "Chuck Wagon" - a VW van with an injected 283 stuck in front of the rear axle. He broke a universal on the first run so there was no real race. Bill ran up and down the track about 5 times and that was it. :(
He definitely has cutting brakes on the rears. Such a cool event vehicle.
When Bob took Jay Leno for a ride, they rolled on it on its side. Quick reaction saved Jay from losing an arm. It was a wild ride indeed.
That was Bob, but a different car. That Barracuda was a second generation.
I love seeing something as rowdy and uncouth as the Hemi Under Glass wheelstander at Goodwood. Props to Bob for his control in those short stretches and curves.
I remember seeing this car going up the hill sometime in the mid-late 2000s.
Me too! My first memory of Goodwood as a child
I saw the Hurst Hemi Under Glass back in the 60s when it was on the NHRA exhibition circuit.
It was at Tampa Dragstrip along with the Dodge Little Red Wagon.
It was just too cool seeing them both go down the strip side by side on two wheels.
WHAT A SHOW ! ! !
That drag strip was DeSoto Speedway. Grew up there. Little red wagon is still sitting in the Don Garlits drag museum off I75
@@metrichotrods1763 No, it was in Tampa. This was in 1968, before DeSoto was built.
The drag strip in Tampa is long gone, there is a Rooms To Go warehouse there where it used to be.
I am an Arcadia native, and have been to DeSoto numerous times, as well as Tampa, when it was operating.
Id never heard of this car before until i saw a model of it in a model shop. I wondered what on earth it was until i looked it up. One of the highlights of cars going up the hill at goodwood despite being the slowest!!! Great video.
The dictionary's definition of COOL is a photo of this Barracuda doing wheel stands. đ
I'm 66 years old now and can remember my Dad taking me to the local dragstrip when I wasn't old enough to drive. Every once in a while, the local track hosted a special event for wheelstanding dragcars like this one. It was best when they held the races at night because they would put on a spectacular display with a shower of sparks from the back due to a special skid plate. Btw. Remember the Little Red Wagon? Thank you so much for bringing back some great memories. And thank you Dad for taking me.
So glad to see he decided to fix it after the tumble he took with Leno - He, and the car are Icons of a better place in time!
Different car.
@@barrycuda3769 nope same car only differences is the zoomies
@@puppymonkeybaby3001 Nope , different car, leno rolled over in Riggles 1969 Barracuda , the one in this video is a 1966 Barracuda ' a differently styled car.
This clip is from many many years before the roll with Jay, and a different car too. There were several of these built over the years.
When you have sponsors on the bottom needing to be seen!
I saw hemi underglass race many times as a kid.
My dad drag raced from the mid/late 70's until the mid 80's.
Was, and still is one of my favorite cars ever. Fantastic to see it at Goodwood.
I was privileged to watch this car MANY times, do a wheel stand through almost the entire quarter mile! ! !
Bob is just a king! Phenomenal job.
I love this so much. I had a â66 Barracuda. It had so much style.
Such an iconic car!
You know damn well every time he noticed an orange jumpsuit he stopped then said to himself "hey watch what I can do! Just like Stuart on mad TV. Such a cool car to have some fun in
Hemi Under Glass is an icon in the wheel stand community, right along with the Lil Red Wagon. Awesome the folks in the UK get to experience it đ€ For anyone wondering he steers it with differential braking between the left and right rear wheels.
Now that was awesome
Phenomenal!
Lol....only @ Goodwood. Many thanx đđ.
Go Bob!
Props to him and the clutch and gearbox â€
Holy wheelie that's nuts what a beast
Not what immediately comes to mind when one thinks of "steering with the throttle" but I'm all for it.
He's got a braking system going that helps him keep it under control and even turn a little, tractor pull tractors do the same
Amazing that he's still out there doing it. Can't believe the crash with Jay Leno was 7 years ago!
that is awesome. mad driving skills love it!!!
Wow !! I used to go to the drags in the 60's and I actually watch that very car do that at the strip along with the Hemi Little Red Wagon. Great stuff back then !!
What a glorious machine and skilled driver! Beautiful! đđ€
Rockin roll band everybody's wheelin gettin crazy, anticipatin' looove and Hemis!
The "Hurst Barracuda Under Glass" or "Hemi Cuda" they called it. There were casters on the rear bumper to help keep it from rolling over backwards and flipping during wheel stands.
Could only be a Bob driving it đ
Great stuff.
Guy in our area did a Vega wagon ... inspiration from the Hemi Under Glass with his left and right brakes and plexi floor to see.
You canât go past a classic old wheel stander đȘđ
You don't see that everyday. What a show đ
This is awesome!
That car is legendary. I guess every American car guy should know it! Itâs an American Legend. If I remember correctly itâs got hand brakes individually each back wheel to steer in wheelie mode. I wish I grew up in my parents day. Although import and muscle car 2.0 era has been cool too!
Very cool love it
Saw âHemi under glassâ back when I was a kid in the mid-90âs at Bristol, TN. He wheeled the entire 1/4 Mile track!
I remember riding under the rear greenhouse of my great uncle's Cuda bringing home a German shepherd puppy. His had a slant-6 and three speed. Still a cool car. He knew it then
Wow it even turns and goes around corners.
The legendary hemi under glass!
You can see all the safety vehicles and ambulances following behind, just in case!
They probably saw the rollover episode with Jay Leno. Glad they were both ok and Bob is still driving it.
@@goatflieg This clip is from the early 2000s, so like 15 years before the Jay Leno crash.
@@NorwayVFX Oh, ok, that makes sense. Since Goodwood just posted it I assumed it was a recent clip.
A true showman
"Honey, when will you be home?"
"Im nearly there, only around 22 wheelies left, dear!"
Niiiice, there's a great book about this guy.
Such a Cool car we had 2 really cool wheelie standers at our now lost drag strip, an actual stagecoach and the jolly rancher fire truck way fun to watch đđ
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you carry the wall with you. Back in the dai, I shortened a vw buss, mounted a dry sump 400 mated to a Chevy rear end at a crazy angle, and the only way to steer it when launched was by the rear brakes. What a hoot...
Man, this brings back memories of the wheelie'ing Corvette that used to perform at Santa Pod! These cars are absolutely mad and I'd guess that the driver has to be a little on the mad side too haha!
The thing I found just as impressive as seeing this big car jump up onto its back wheels was that it even used to do a quarter mile VERY quickly! Just think of badly the cars aerodynamics must be effected when the car is driving forward at increasingly high speeds but with the wind hitting the flat underneath! It's also gotta take a LOT of control to have a car go full speed doing a wheelie for the full quarter mile! So cool!
I shoulda mentioned the Vette performed at Santa Pod back in the early/mid 90s.
Thatâs wild
What a cool car!

This looks like a great daily drive.
This thing is so cool is this the same one that rolled with Jay Leno in it
Which year is this particular Goodwood FOS? I'm pretty sure this is even before F&F are even a thing.
Anyone remember the wheelie truck which over turned at Brands Hatch ?
He even stopped in front my house to walk it down the blockđ
Engine at the back đ
Gotta love bob riggle
Serious question. How is he steering the rear?
Just when you think man that's a lot of HP in that car! Then you can see it's a rear engine mount car! Then you're like oh man really, scroll to the next video.
Ha ha!... I Love it. I've seen the Video when he and Jay Leno Flipped the Thing
How much torque does that make? Yes.
Oout standing great job
How does he steer it while doing a wheelie? Manual brakes on each side like a tractor puller?
The hemi under glass one of the wheel stand era.
I hope that's what heaven sounds like when I get there
If thatâs the car think it is, it was a test car I worked on at Chrysler engineering, â Hemi under Glassâ early 70s. I never got to drive it.
