The Cuda is so friggin slick, my favorite year, too. The only things I'd change are give it a shaker hood and go with Plum Crazy purple paint instead of Mood Indigo blue.
Don't get me wrong, I own 2 Ford Escort coupes (known as the Ford Laser in other countries) and I'd pick the Cuda in memory of my great grandmother from Berlin, Germany.
And whoever tought that these cars nowadays, specially in their factory condition, they're selled like it was an second hand GT-R R35 (stock 240SX without any drift missile mods) or an Brand new McLaren Freaking F1 (the Plymouth Barracuda with an Factory and VIN matched Hemi engine).
The 360 wasn't a hemi. The little Nissan could keep up on twisty roads or a race circuit but yeah a stock 240SX wouldn't have anything for it on relatively straight farm country roads like that.
All those cars are boats compared to the 240. Non of them have the motorsport versatility of a 240sx. They are still tearing up tracks around the world
Can't remember which year it was but there was a Toyota Supra model in the '80s that was really fast. They should have raced with that. I had an MR2 that was pretty fast. Great on the corners.
CUDA 1 looks a bit too much like ‘coulda won’ maybe 1 CUDA might have been better. Is the red ‘cuda at the end supposed to be the same car as the blue one?

Was only having one mirror normal on cars back then? I know the 1988 Honda Civic STD trim came with only the drivers side mirror and I believe it was the DX and the later 89-91 models that came with a passenger side mirror. Apparently it used to be legal to have only one mirror.
yaa..the olden days. the psngr side mirror was an option on many cars..$5 or $10 bux..crazy not to get it, lol..but ppl did. cars were more ala carte, then..not all packages and not all loaded with 5 pgs of options. i had a '66 Chrysler Newport in the 90's..had pwr steering, pwr brakes and a light pkg..inc. trunk, under hood and dome & map light on the dash..that was about it..oh..tinted windshield. no radio, even! aha. a fairly typical option list with only the radio delete being a tad peculiar.
@@BoostedPastime Yeah and still is legal as far as I know although most/all come with a passenger side mirror now. The vast majority of cars didn't have them until at least the 80s. In my state at least the passenger side mirror isn't required on cars UNLESS the rear window has tint then it is required. Not sure if there are any cars with factory rear tint and no passenger side mirror or not if so I assume they would be exempt, but if tint is added on it's required to retrofit it with a passenger side mirror.
@@BoostedPastime definitely more customizable. kind of like the 'Jail Break' edition Dodges, now..but even more so. the diff exterior/interior color combos and options you could just pick & choose..everything is all pkgs now and oft times picking one option may negate the possibility of another.
Not to mention that both cars are very challenging hunting for the collectors to find these 2 cars in stock pristine condition; for the rookie collector; finding an nice 240SX S13 that wasn't wrecked & swapped to the torsion bars due to their extensive popularity among the drifting community & for the veteran old schooler is to find an pristine or a survivor looking Barracuda, specially find an gold mine that is an HEMI powered ´Cuda from the factory (and with the right factory VIN numbers matching) without beign sell to the insanity levels, like it was an Brand New McLaren F1. Specially if you know the story about the Convertible Hemi Cudas.

To be fair this looks like a made for TV movie with no budget, so it likely was a Barracuda that had a paint job and hood swap done to it. Would be a easier and cheaper than getting the real item and most people who watched back in 1990 probably wouldn't have paid much attention anyway.
The big Plymouth looks so freaking mean. What a great car
That S13 driver looks more like a Porsche driver.

Sweet ❤️ I drove a 1971 barracuda to highschool . 318 auto . Worked at the Piggly Wiggly saved up put a 440 big block in her . Good times 😊

Now I wonder, did high school students drove the Camaro, trans am, challenger, and barracuda around 1974-81?

Lots of nice iron in this clip. The red '65 Futura was pretty neat, not too often you see a hot Falcon in a movie.

Or black like Phantasm Cuda. ❤
That blue cuda was too quiet lol, good lookin car tho!
That blue Plymouth would of walk away from that 4 cylinders 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What did they do? Convert a blue 71 Cuda to a red 70 Cuda clone?
Filmed in my hometown of Plattsmouth Nebraska
Beautiful old Town does the Town still look like it compared to the movie

No problem!

Thats not a barracuda, thats a 'cuda
'cuda had the vents in the fenders. This one's a Barracuda.
Why change the plate if he is going right back? I don't know the plot of this movie but why change the car completely then get the exact same plate?
Ι used to drive this Nissan for years... different engine though... 1.8 L Turbo, 170 horsepower. Top speed 240 km/h on GPS
Um… The Plymouth should be walking away from that Nissan like it’s standing still.
What the hell just happened 😳
I would think the Cuda would walk away from that Nissan, however I've been wrong before.
There’s no way that 4cyl Nissan 240SX could out perform that Plymouth unless it has the slant 6 instead of the 360 hemi
The 360 wasn't a hemi. The little Nissan could keep up on twisty roads or a race circuit but yeah a stock 240SX wouldn't have anything for it on relatively straight farm country roads like that.
No 360 in 71. 340, 383, 440 or the 426 Hemi. My guess is it is a 340 - great engine - big balls for a small block

Looks like the early '90s. This would have been more believable if the other car was a Stealth/3000GT, Supra, maybe a DSM at the least, not a slow 240
If Nissan gave us the 240SX with its intended power plant, the SR20DET, then the race would have been more neck and neck.
All those cars are boats compared to the 240. Non of them have the motorsport versatility of a 240sx. They are still tearing up tracks around the world
The fact that 'Cuda has a bib on the front calling out 'Plymuth' dumbs it down to make it a perfect adversary for that flimsy Nissan 240.
