- On September 15 & 16, 2018, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and Metra teamed up for a repeat of last year's Joliet Rocket excursions on the former Rock Island between Joliet and Chicago, Illinois. These trips offered passengers and spectators the chance to see the Berkshire running in excess of 60mph, a mighty impressive sight rarely seen in the eastern US. Shortly before these excursions FWRHS fully repainted the locomotive, giving it a wonderful polished look throughout the weekend. Three of the four trips were sold out and 765 performed flawlessly as always, FWRHS and Metra should be proud of a fantastic weekend of big steam in Chcagoland.
I caught the morning runs on both days and the after-dark deadhead on Saturday. During Saturday's afternoon run I was at the Illinois Railway Museum and during Sunday's afternoon run I was beginning the drive back to Tennessee (I did see the smoke from I-94 as I was leaving Chicago.)

I wish I had this magic touch. the story of the buildings and the ride on the subway was well done. and the editing, everything about this was well done.
Thank you very much!
Great location selection! I enjoyed this one all the way thru!!
Thank you very much!
Great video! It's good to see mainline steam running into one of its former destinations Chicago .Wish the 611 could go mainline again
Steve Haun It will! You just gotta have hope!
When the 1225 is back in service, they should tag team the 765.
1225 has been in service for some time, it ran some excursions out of Howell, MI just a month ago.
Excellent video!
I wish that I could go to Chicago one day.
Your best video ever SMS.
Thank you!
It looks really good like this, they should keep it like this
Awesome video thank you
Thanks!
Great video Sean! I Really wish i could have made it out, its hard to believe that its been 4 years since i saw 765 last.
Thanks Nolan!
You should check out the Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad, especially on their railfans weekend, and Michigan's railroad attractions, like Henry Ford museum and Greenfield Village
I went to Greenfield Village 7 years ago, but they weren't running the steam engines that day.
Great video man
Thanks!
Nice video!
Great shots there m8
1225 also went around 50 MPH in 1990 while pulling freight
That would've been something to see.
Great video! We rode the 3:30 trip on Saturday.
Thanks, I was over at IRM during the afternoon run. I bet it was a blast onboard, if they return to Metra again I hope to have time to ride.
It was VERY fun!!!
Bro I live in Chicago
Great video! I do plan on going to this again if they have it. Are you going to steam in the valley this year? They are a lot more strick to chasers this year. Even ticketed a guy for pacing!
Thanks! Can't say I'm surprised, the roads in the Cuyahoga Valley can't really handle the crowds 765 brings in even without people holding up traffic by pacing. Getting around was a nightmare both times I've been. I'm not going to make it there this year, but I do hope to go back eventually, maybe when 2100 is running. Looking forward to your video from Joliet.
Nice thing with this year was I felt there really wasn’t as many people there. I did good. But the talk of the 2100 was really the talk of the valley
Amazing Shots! Was it easy to chase the train?
Thanks! It was impossible to chase the train, I had to film the morning run both days and the deadhead move Saturday.
Oh, ok. I'm looking to see it next year
Have you filmed Pere Marquette 1225
Not yet, but I'm hoping to see her this December on the North Pole Express.
SmokyMtnSteam as I understand it. This years NPE is cancelled.
That kid is SOOO lucky. (1:16-1:25)
Why was it running at night?
The train was stored overnight in Chicago, so it had to run back from Joliet after the last train each day.
I don't like diesels. Steam engines are my forte.
