"whatever these are meant to be" are the safety valves, they let off excess steam when the pressure gets too high and prevent a boiler explosion. (though boiler explosions are still possible through a crown sheet failure if the water level gets too low)

A little fun fact; When the falcon engines were initially built, none of them had the tracking wheel at the back, so the engines were 0-4-0's to begin with and were later modified to have the tracking wheels, so technically you could have the model in that wheel set up and no one would really complain.

I won't repeat what others have said about the safety valves. Still, you might be interested to know that Sir Haydn and her Falcon siblings were originally built without those little trailing wheels under the cab - they were a later addition made to correct the tendency for the engines to "bounce" due to the long overhang the cab created at the back of the engine. From the angles you've shown, I think you've just about shortened the locomotive enough to possibly not need them.

0:06 The representation of Sir Haydn looks so cool!
By the way, a cool detail perhaps would be to name the train after a fictional Lord or Lady on the island. Sir Haydn earned its name from the original owner of the Talyllynn Sir Henry Haydn Jones. Naturally of course, when Wilbert Awdry wrote his books, SIr Handel (based on Sir Haydn) was named after Sir Handel Brown, the original owner of the Skarloey Railway who in turn was a nod to Sir Henry Haydn Jones.
It might add a nice little bit of lore to your game. :-)

In 1:21 these things are called cylinders usually depending on the engine would have them under the farms or on the out side at the front usually tender engines would have these 4-6-2’s or 0-4-0’s (note sry for all these comments I’m just a big railway fan)

If you want a more open design of the cab, the Falcon locomotives did originally come with an open cab design (the best way I can describe it is that the top back panel with the windows are cut off).
