Megan actually took a plane in the thigh years ago! She was so into it, that she failed to move to the left or right and she got hit in the leg. She was laughing and laughing, but I felt so bad. She was "fine" but did get a bruise on her leg. It was a small sig balsa plane, but it took a strange bounced up toward us on a landing, but she just kept filming. Since then, I've had to remind her "this is pretty big one...you gotta be ready to get out of the way"...and she's developed a better eye for danger. Also, we communicate a lot "off camera" as we can make it. You hopefully can't see or hear it, but at times I'll kinda grab her shirt and nudge her from the side or forward or back, so she can keep filming. It's hard for me too, since I have to take one hand of the controls to do that. She's very good, and I'm so proud of her hard work to help me put on a good show ;) We're very blessed to have her!!!

GOOD CALL! It's a lot easier and better flying, but I still get the ebie-geebees flying both...the P-51 since it's kinda hard to fly, and the FW just plane beauty, and I love those long bogeys, till I know I have to put the plane down on them - LOL :)
I'm a history buff and LOVE that the FW-190 has proper camo colors, unlike the P-51 with its ridiculous blue nonsense. Why on earth would they pattern after an airshow plane rather than a real war livery? On a scale warbird I'm not looking for *pretty*, but rather, historical accuracy. I know that the livery on the FW190 is sketchy too, as it's patterned after an airshow replica. But, at least it looks more WWII appropriate. BTW - I purchased the Focke-Wulf (using your link of course!) I've removed the crazy FRASCA International labels on the wheel skirts and have added the non-politically correct evil emblem on the vertical stab. I'll likely break out the airbrush and add a bit of weathering at some point too. I've yet to fly it, as the wind has just been brutal here in Oklahoma for the last week (18-30mph +) and will likely continue for another week (at least). I'm not prepared to take that chance with this great plane. If I bought the P-51, I'd immediately repaint the blue to the O.D. green that more accurately represents the plane that Col. Thomas J J Christian actually flew.
I really appreciate your input and your conclusions. These have been my two favorite WWII warbirds since I was glue-dobbing model airplanes together as a pre-teen kid (I'm 65 now). I gave the nod to the Focke-Wulf specifically because it more closely resembles real warbird livery. I'm glad to hear that, according to your conclusions, I made the right choice re: ease of flying.

Thanks stuff! Sounds like you and I have a lot of the same thoughts on the paint jobs ;) That being said, the Blue does look so much better in person...BUT I'm totally with you - REAL livery please!!!!
I think what happens is that they guys at Horizon and other big companies kinda get sick of the "same old" liveries, but I LOVE the "same old" liveries....I'm such a creature of habit, I don't like change - LOL!!!!
You DID make the right call on the Fw - I would have never guessed it would work out that way from when I was flying the P-51 for the first time!
P.S. 1.5m Eflite Corsair would be a very welcome item in my over-stuffed basement of beauties ;)

Always been a Mustang fanatic, but to my surprise, the FW had more presence. And the sound it made was the kicker.
You will like the way it flies and lands a lot better too. I was with you too...couldn't believe the difference....but they are BOTH excellent planes!

Brian I've for both these birds and deciding on the which lipos out the 2 you tested. Do I spend the bit extra on the 100C over the 50C? I take it the FW still fits the Spektrum 100C also and CGs out OK?
If you want the better pack, get the 100C, but know that it's VERY MINIMALLY BETTER in my experience. I would suggest that they might tend to puff a little bit less or slower...but honestly, I would never get a higher C pack in the SMART lineup than necessary...
...that being said, if it's in stock in 100C and back order in 50C...get the 100C because I bet you'll be paying an increased price waiting.

Brian I have a question the older guys in our fly club are telling me that I don't want retracts on planes because there all junk one kinda hard landing and there not ever right again I love the t 28 planes is there one with a good set of retracts or should I just get the yellow eflite one without retracts .just asking don't know what to do .
That is typical RC Club BS. They are wrong. Retracts are fine, unless you're dealing with Dynam - LOL!!! Fixed gear will bend and break just as easy as retracts. The KEY is to fly planes that don't need retracts until you're a good enough pilot to mitigate damage on landings.
As for the plane T-28 with retracts....please wait. They will more than likely re-release the 1.2m T-28 from Horizon Hobby, and it will be AMAZING, as the first, only much improved with better tech, like SAFE Select and other more refined SMART features potentially.
If you CAN'T wait, you could get the Carbon Z T-28 which is AMAZING - I want it badly, but I can't convince them to send on :(.... T28 1.1m / 1.2m / Carbon Z bit.ly/3eOh9Lk

I'm wondering if I will be able to get the telemetry on my Dx6 G2 Brian? I've never needed to update the firmware on the radio because its always worked well..
I'd for sure upgrade the firmware. I had SOME telemetry on the DX18 GEN1...but I don't know what I did wrong ;(

Thank you for this the video, it's one I wanted to see that no one has done. I have the P51 1.2M eflite, bang for the buck, it's a tough plane to beat if you want a P51. I appreciate your honest comments about the 1.2M on this video.
It's so good, I'm doing another on in the next few weeks with the new NX8 (just like I did with the NX6, when we first reviewed it!!!)...
Bang for the buck is a REAL thing that gets routinely overshadowed by what's "latest and greatest", and it's a shame... We want to help everyone make GREAT decisions with their RC dollars, and sometimes that means, buy the cheaper, smaller, even more excellent choice ;) Horizon Hobby would probably prefer I just "forget" to mention this, but as much as I love the brand, my loyalty is to you guys, not them ;)

Draco is in my possession! BUT, we can't review it for a little while ;(...
I got to maiden My 1.5m smart mustang!!! :) :) It flew so Wonderfully with a Spektrum G1 4000mah 50C 6s. didn't even check my CG , just put the battery in the middle of the tray. My only issue was my tailwheel would not track straight on taxying. for some reason no matter how straight I had it aligned it wouldn't roll straight. But once I got that tail up it went straight like an arrow!! I had it setup exactly like how you set yours up... But oh my WhatA pure smooth flight all the way back to the ground for 5 min.

Update on tailwheel issue... Problem solved Taxies straight as an arrow now with no rudder input. I was trying to recenter servo and linkage at the same time. I put the servo back to the factory center setting and adjusted only the linkage.
Well Brian.....Finally done it....took long enough to convince me....lol. Just placed the order for the FW 190. Used your link buddy..... :-)

Gday Brian how are you? This comment is unrelated to this video. I just wanted to share something, I flew for the first time my xk 520. It was my first experience with a fixed wing and I have to say I'm hooked. I'm revisiting all your videos to try make the correct choice on what is best for me to buy. I'm in Australia and I live on the side of a hill which from what I've been seeing on line could be perfect for a sail plain. I have a deck on top of my house which is perfect for flying from a helicopter piont of view(no runway) however at the end of my street there's a big footy oval with a cricket pitch for a runway and the grass is very well maintained which I was able to do wheels up wheels down. I don't know if I should be thanking you, its because of your influence I'm in this situation (addicted) thanks mate. I'm not real savvy with the tech, could you please send me the link/s for the correct glue I need to get for making foam repairs. Thanks you so very much. Regards to the camera crew......

Brian, Hope the family is doing well. Great job comparing these 2 warbirds. The weather looked fantastic. Hey, have you noticed any difference in the amount of "juice" left in the SMART packs between your Gen 1 and Gen 2 batteries of comparable size and MAH after similar flight times? My Gen 1 batteries seem to have little more juice (so to speak) left in them than the Gen 2. You think the Gen 2 may just need a little more time to break-in? This is just an observation. I'm pretty easy on my batteries. I haven't flown a lot this winter because of work schedule and very wet winter for us here in the southeast. This is not a deal breaker by no means. I was just thinking when I pick up more SMART packs that I might stick with the Gen 1 while Spektrum still provides them. Don't get me wrong, the Gen 2 are nice when it comes to fitment in smaller aircraft. P.S. I bet you're glad the snow has retreated. Spring is just about sprung for us here. :)
We're doing well, thanks for asking! Super busy, as you can imagine!
I think the Gen2 are a little better on firmware...thus, they use it up - the juice. I've noticed I push a bit harder with G2 packs, and they keep balance very nicely, but I don't want to say I think they're worth double the price...I love that they work great, but still was very satisfied with the G1 packs. I don't mean to disparage the hard work that's gone into the G2 upgrades, as I haven't fully realized them, but I can say that I've had one issue with a single G1 pack (workable), and no issues with the G2 packs, which we've been much less exposed too so far.
All I can say about them is they are really nice. I wish HH could hit a lower price point, but I'm sure they're in the same boat. The better cells are WAY more expensive, from what I'm told...so not just a gold mine (but who really knows)...I'm just glad they work.
As for break in...I don't break in any packs - I put them to work immediately ;)
If I were you, I'd get the G1 packs until you can't get the G1 packs. I love them, and they've worked amazing. Horizon Hobby has not convinced me that the G2 packs are such an amazing leap as they'd like me to believe, but I know they're working on convincing me ;) I DO like the absence of balance lead when I'm rushing to get out to fly, and have about 20 batteries charging (not an exaggeration)...not having to plug in the balance lead is VERY nice...but for another 10-50%...and the lack of being able to use a voltage alarm in older planes...it's maybe a wash?
Again, I love horizon stuff, and I did well before I was "working with them" as you know I am...but the G1 VS G2...to me, it's G1 for cost, FOR NOW. When they can make a few more advances, I will be more excited to try to convince people to spend the premium, on top a pretty sizable premium.

I wish I could build a house in your backyard and fly an RC plane. I envy you for having a really nice private runway. If I wanna fly a plane once, it takes at least 40 min.by car. :)
We ALSO have two flight fields within about that drive...but I've only visited once ;) It's a lot cheaper to be in a club, BTW...but having the time is priceless!!! We could never do this channel if we didn't have access to the runway!
Brian how do you deal with the torque on take off of the P51? Even with rudder I still have a tuff time taking off with this plane.
It's squirrelly with the tail wheel down, so you have to get her up on the mains, and down the runway if you can. This is one of the hardest things about flying powerful war-birds.
I don’t have the plane but I used to fly the big heavy Top Flite kit built P51 and with it I had to ease into the throttle. Don’t just jam the stick to full power or you will not be able to fight it.
The fW is one my fav planes. I have the same trouble landing the p51

Hey Brian love these vids. After watching your videos I bought a carbon cub s2 rtf. You weren’t kidding about the balloon with flaps. I need to to upgrade the charger and just to confirm, can a gen 1 charger be updated to charge gen 2 batteries? I have someone going to sell me a gen 1 s1100 charger for $50. It would suck to buy a charger just to have to turn around buy another one in 6 months or a year.
Yes, but you need the USB Updater Cable bit.ly/3aYYrP7 along with any "Gen1" chargers.
Then you can use any of the SMART Chargers for a G2 pack. It's cheap, but if you really get right down to it...Horizon Hobby probably should have been given them out with the rather expensive chargers...Oh well, still AWESOME chargers!

I think Horizon Hobby values our opinion, and if you guys don't trust my judgment what does it matter anyway, right??? My authenticity is a double edged sward - Horizon Hobby, Banggood, BitgoHobby, Amazon, IntoTheAM, TheMagicHome, RCGoing, Hobbyking, Titan, etc...they all know this, and still trust us to be fair when reviewing their stuff. We gain NOTHING by encouraging people to buy crap, without at least first warning them it stinks - LOL! Funny thing, some people will buy the junk, KNOWING it's junk, then bash it because they think they got ripped off?!?!?!? I guess, if we can help people to know what they're getting into, these distributors and manufacturers will have a better experience with THEIR customers too?
Whatever the case, we want to help bring new people into the hobby, and help avoid "one and done" RC'ers...by giving some good advice, hopefully at the right time of someone's experience.

No, but it's a LOT easier to fly and land. This P-51 1.5m is tough on the ground! Grass tames her down nicely though.

Yes. It's cheaper, and cool, but I don't like the setup on the transmitters yet. I'm still inclined toward Spektrum, because that's what I learned on. This is largely a preference thing, and I don't disparage anyone who has learned OpenTX or Futaba FIRST, and loves it like I love my Spektrum ;)

Which one is easier to fly?
This is by far my favourite war plane the P-51 mustang and probably my second choice after the Maule M 7...
If that's the case, the Maule is amazing, and if you don't yet have it - GET IT!!! It's great, and super easy to fly.

100C is always better in almost every application, but they're more expensive, and probably arguably unnecessary for most.
100C will hold up a bit better if you beat the hell out of our packs...but they're a lot more money. Weight is such a minor issue with this size of pack, I wouldn't worry about that. I know either will fit.

They know who I am, and I love their products...but I kinda doubt they'll work with me - they wouldn't even work with me on the AL37 when it first came out...that would have been my new "Flagship", but they didn't care.

Sure, it's nice! Loving the SMART packs for so many reasons, not the least of which is that we CAN use 100C packs!!! However, I haven't seen a HUGE bump in speed over the 50C packs. Evidently you HAVE seen a bump???

What do you think about the FAA passing a law that we now have to have a transponder? I notice it says when flying over people.
Remote ID is a complete and total over-reach by an over-reachy bureaucracy.....that being said, Remote ID was castrated from what it was originally proposed as, and that's a VERY good thing. So many of the worst items were removed, and now they've passed a much more watered down, but still liberty sucking, BS unconstitutional over-reach.
Since they can regulate essentially anything, for any reason, against the will of the people, I don't want to waste my time worrying about it. I suggest you do the same, and be pissed as much as you'd like (I am)...but what could be done has already been done, and we were basically given a fat middle finger by those we employ (against our will, also).
Here's what I'm doing. I will work with Horizon Hobby to have good tech, and we'll be depending on them to help keep us compliant. When and if the rules change, we will push back at every opportunity.
It's a sad state of affairs, how easily people in the freest place on Earth give up their freedom, but pretty hard to change it anyway - they don't seem to care what I think....and it isn't for a lack of trying ;)

I would say the P-51 has stronger retracts, but the FW190 are cooler, and have held up great, because the plane just lands easier ;)

Is this a good beginner plane?
No. Neither of these are, really. Great planes, but you better be very comfortable with the 1.2m P-51 before you step near these bigger, much more challenging offerings. They are AMAZING, but have a lot more going on, and can get you into some tough spots....Plus, they're just plain expensive...so don't want to crash a $700 investment in my personal experience.

I've done one a while back. I love flite test - they're a great group of quality people, who have helped bring ME up into this current revision of RC aircraft. That being said, we would invite the opportunity to review a plane, like the Kit Fox, should they decide we could help them...however, they probably don't really want to have a competitive RC influencer making videos about their stuff - but either way, we wish them success, and would love to collaborate with them at some point. We'd be the winners in that colab, for sure!

The Draco is coming, but we have special requirements for this item...and I don't believe I can talk about it any further... This is very difficult for us, being ambassadors for HH, and with one of the biggest releases in years (if not the biggest)...we can't talk about it. We're not really pleased about it, but we're playing along for now.
We want the company to make cool planes, but this one was a lot different from usual, and you may be able to connect the dots in the next few weeks of commentary....BUT I can only say, I'm VERY excited that our extremely loyal audience will support us even when we're "cuffed in the back of an unmarked van" - LOL ;)
