Introduction
The Truman Senate War Investigating Committee called the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang “the most aerodynamically perfect pursuit plane in existence.” During WWII, it blasted trains, ships, and enemy installations throughout Western Europe. The “D” variant, outfitted with the legendary Merlin engine, gave the U.S. Army Air Forces a high-altitude, long-range fighter capable of escorting heavy bomber formations the entire way to Berlin and back. I’ve had one for over a year and it’s probably my favorite of the fleet. A few interesting notes:(1) this plane likes short grass more than pavement due to the yawing on pavement and it’s tendency to bounce on pavement due to the rock hard tires on the mains..(2) the Smart 6s 4000 50C I fly it on actually goes almost even with the tray since a 4000 is on the light side. You can actually use both straps on it. Finally the nose tends to pitch down slightly when the gear is deployed. It’s a fun plane though. You will love it.
My maiden video is on pavement, not much of a bounce issue, but a major ground looping issue with this plane, sadly.. Grass is great! Thanks
@@JohnVHRC Guess what I meant to say is for landings only you worry about bouncing if you don’t set down smoothly. I’ve noticed the serious yawing on pavement, which is why I prefer the grass strip at my club. If you like pavement more then great. Good luck on the flight👌
