  • In this video we'll be looking into Nibelung's lore and theorising on his connections to Ouroboros, the Power of Darkness, the Sinner, Deshret, Aether, Lumine, Irmin and Nottfrigga. There's a fair bit of speculation with how little we know about him so let me know if you have any theories that might fit better or even add on to the ones I mention.
    Hope you enjoy the video!

      One of my crack theories is that nibelung had multiple elements (fire,water,cold,elec) and died at the point where azdaha was birthed.(the prime vishap) no evidence other than the artifacts from azdaha calling him the "dragon king" at points. I think theres a separation between the 4 primal elements (cold,water,fire,elec) and the 3x secondary elements (anemo,dendro,geo) , the secondary elements dont react with each other. Theres also a possibiliy of a 4th unknown secondary element (shadow/abyssal?)
      Then theres also Celestial/Light power as well.

    • @TheLaughingManLore

      That'd be pretty interesting as we've seen beings that can wield multiple elements though iirc they're mostly related to the Abyss like the Iniquitous Baptist and possibly delusions but since the celestial/light energy is sort of similar but seemingly on the opposite end of the spectrum I can see how the highest being of the light realm could control the other elements too. I remember reading a bit about Azhdaha being a king and I think the other sovereigns are called kings in the original CN (though I could be misremembering that) so I wonder if we're missing anything lost in translation related to that. 100% think there's something up with at least geo and anemo since there's that cave drawing of a tree with every element except geo and anemo (can't remember if dendro was there) in the latest desert area. Not sure what to make of it though.

It's interesting that once the vision has been granted it doesnt stop giving them power whatever that person then does. Dainslief knows it too it's Nibelung/Nidhog and seemed very worried and scared Nibelung noticed us. In the norse mythology Nidhog described to torment and manipulate the dead, breathing toxic fumes, and being trapped by the world tree's roots. The name Nidhog means “Curse-striker” or “He Who Strikes with Malice.”

    I would love to think that Nibelung is the 8th, bearing the light element. This aligns with the theory that he may be the 3rd descender from which all the gnoses (all colors) came from. We know now from Skirk and Arlecchino that when living things die, they sometimes leave their bonds to the world as curses. Like Clervie who was a special case and left a sentient "curse" after departing.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před 12 dny +1

      I hadn't connected him possibly being the third descender and the light element being split up to create the gnoses but it fits really well doesn't it, even the curse around gnoses that Skirk mentions when things die. Maybe the curse around the gnoses would be stronger too due to Nibelung's corruption by forbidden knowledge before he was seemingly killed.

    Very nicely done, theres a chance that teyvat was still created by the PO (who then left for some time) and then invaded by the dragons from the light realm who took over, then the PO would have a reason to take it back from them to reinstate his chosen order. The power of darkness is inherently connected to forbidden knowledge. This is the corrupting power that nibelung used to fight against and otherwise superior entity. Likely the very forbidden knowledge ended nibelung's form even as he wielded it as a weapon. The other question is, the sinner, is this him? Or just another toadie of the night mother? I'm still thinking it's the second who came, which could still be nibelung himself.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před 11 měsíci +4

      That's something I hadn't thought about before but it'd fit pretty well with it being called the Primordial One and primordial meaning basically the start of everything. Would also explain pretty nicely how it was able to defeat all the dragons if it was sort of their indirect creator. I'll have to think a bit more on that.
      Yeah I can imagine it was a painful transformation for Nibelung if he was basically becoming the opposite of what he used to be and the abyssal powers being a poison to vishaps. I do wonder if there's something specific with Forbidden Knowledge that we can learn though, say for example "the universe is all dead and this is the last continent on the last planet left in existence and we don't have long left either" or it's more of a thing like corrupted data that just causes things to go haywire.
      I'd say if the sinner isn't Nibelung it'd be one of the kings he corrupted, maybe Irmin since Deshret was eaten by Apep and I'm not sure if his soul/spirit was consumed too. The Night Mother is really interesting though isn't she? If she was Nottie the Queen of Khaenri'ah I wonder if she was one of the vishap people like Tsumi and sort of infiltrated Khaenri'ah as apparently happened in Enkanomiya. That'd be a pretty interesting twist and I kinda wish I'd thought of it before releasing the video haha.

    • @Necrochaosium
      @Necrochaosium Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@TheLaughingManLore I'm not saying the PO created the dragons/vishaps, he/she created teyvat. I'm sure there was already a light realm and abyss realm created by something else before that. We know from khaenrian's exploration that they had PEEKED into multiple realms to steal technology, always investigating energy sources. Their so called perpetual machines arrays are still powered on energy from somewhere, it's a possible reason the abyss attacked because they were leeching power from the abyss realm. If you think of all 3 realms not being inherently good or bad they just have alliances and aims and come into conflict with each other,over control and power. We know the khaverna energy (possibly from the light realm) cancels out abyss energy and vice versa. It's also possibly that the dragon king was exiled with other dragons from the light realm and came to teyvat to make a home.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Ohh sorry I understand what you mean now, sometimes can get confusing talking about Teyvat and whether it's the continent/realm/planet haha.
      The perpetual energy is something I had a look into a while back but was quite a deep rabbit hole so put off making a video on it until we get a bit more on it. Iirc I made a link with one of the Ruin Guard's drops being called a Chaos Core and linking it with the void/darkness/abyss as a sort of primordial chaos kind of thing which seemed to fit quite well. Khaenri'ah did seem to become quite aggressive with their research so I can totally see the classic tale of hubris with them trying to control powers beyond their understanding and having it overwhelm them.
      Very possible yeah, that reminds me actually - even though I think some stuff from the manga might be sort of scrapped ideas for the game, the image of Celestia surrounded by flying dragons in Vennessa's time has always stuck in my mind as something strange too. Not sure what to make of it if anything though.

I think the cryo archon is bored the rude of Teyvat. She wants something breakthrough for human . In some cultures, breakthrough = destruction, Celetials are very scared about this . Nibelung wants to defeat the Celestials to bring his home back . That is the reason why Cryro archon doesn’t like Abyss . The developing of something never avoiding destruction. We don't know when Nebelung became king. Since BtS&M doesn't mention a single king but seven kings, it's likely that the dragons only chose an overall king after their first defeat. Kinda like the way native American tribes were forced to ally together. Fire seems the most likely element since it's the most aggressive and war themed element. But maybe we'll never know.
    As for the Abyss we don't hear anything about it until after the 2nd throne comes. If it had always been there and always had a source of power open to the dragons they would have used it the first time around. Also why would the PO allow such a threat to exist in the world it built for humans? Why didn't the PO fight the Abyss at that time? Again the Abyss is NOT paired against the Light realm in any text in game. It's either paired against Celestia or else it's in a three-way fight with both as in Enkanomiya. Again the Abyssal energy is said to be of a higher level than Elemental energy and of an equal level to Celestial energy [says René] therefore it is certainly not the opposite of the Light realm. It feels like the opposite of Celestia but even that might not be quite true. We are told it comes from beyond the heavens though [Chasm description loading screen text], and it mutually annihilates Celestial energy [René again].
    PO is already the ruler of the world when Nebelung attacks the second time. PO has already created the heavenly principles by this time.
    Most likely Norse mythology has nothing to do with game lore. Has real-world lore ever predicted Genshin lore?
    We already have a critter that feeds on the roots of Irminsul and it's a spider that tastes nice [says Albedo], not a dragon or wyrm.
    As for the CCC, Enkanomiya says the universe is only 14 billion years old. Far too young.
    Why would humans of the Ancient Civilization worship Ouroboros if that meant a dragon king that was trying to kill them all and their god and who had destroyed their civilization? Most likely the Ouroboros was an aspect of the Primordial One (and the moon sister another aspect). After all the Ouroboros was worshiped since the time of the Ancient Civilization which was a time the only god in existence was the Primordial One. That also makes sense in light of Aberaku's heresy after the PO is seen to desert the Enka people, resulting with the priest-nobility doubling down with the Sunchildren as a replacement for the PO, and the arrest of Aberaku.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před 11 měsíci +4

      I can see him becoming king after the first defeat of the dragons, especially if he was one of the seven elements and fire being the most aggressive would fit that quite well - like electing someone to lead you in a war that you might not want to elect under peaceful times.
      I'm not sure about the Abyss only appearing after the Second Throne comes but with how far back that was it is a possibility. I think the dragons may have been against using it though as it's incredibly harmful to vishaps being creatures of the light realm as we saw in Enkanomiya and they may have never encountered anything stronger than themselves before so never thought to use such desperate measures to win against the Primordial One and shades.
      If the dragons are reborn after being killed then PO wouldn't be able to prevent them affecting the world and appearing in places that can't be tracked and if they're unable to truly be destroyed then sealing them away in a place where they have as little influence as possible makes the most sense to me. This might just be the case for Nibelung and a few other dragons though as he was likely the strongest and therefore most dangerous of the dragons.
      I think the Abyss/SDD in totality is probably too much for the Primordial One to take on alone which is why I speculate that they may be running/hiding from it and sealed Teyvat away from it. They did drop down the nails to prevent it and FK from spreading though so I think they have at least enough power to fight it on a smaller scale. If their goal is preservation and going to war with the Abyss in totality would cost them a lot, I can see why just sealing Teyvat off from it for however long they can makes sense.
      For the Abyss/Void Realm being opposed to the Light realm, Enjou says this:
      "In that triangular formation of nature, there was an opposition between the abyssal Void Realm and the elemental Vishap Realm.
      Humans would create high towers in later years to allow the Human Realm to interpose itself between the two, thus creating a stable space - one held up by three towers in three corners."
      and this is from the loading screen:
      "Light Realm
      Also known as the realm of the elements.
      Though, much like mother nature, this realm has fallen under the dominion of humanity, it will still lend humans its aid against the encroaching void"
      With vishaps seeming to suffer more from the abyssal energies of the Void Realm than other creatures and them being from the Light Realm it does seem to fit pretty well that the Light and Void Realms were opposed to each other.
      Since Celestia seems to have taken over the Light Realm from the vishaps, don't you think Celestial energy could be another name/description of Light energy? If both are of a higher level above the regular elements it still fits quite well with the Void and Light realms being opposed and of a higher level than the other elements. We just see a smaller scale version happening in Teyvat that seems to be a much larger battle in the outside universe that the darkness is winning.
      I'm not sure real-world lore has predicted Genshin's lore but it's definitely been used as an inspiration for many things in the game. Hoyo even said that Gnosticism was a big inspiration for the story that could give us clues to how things will go.
      We do have those spiders but that doesn't mean there aren't lower levels than the roots Albedo travelled to as they extend for miles beneath the surface and likely cover a pretty wide area too if they spread across the world. There's probably an extra layer of protection like the veil of sin preventing people from wandering into Nibelung's prison too that would need to be broken to get to him.
      As for why the people of Delphi would worship Ouroboros, it could be for a number of reasons, Clothar started worshipping the crystal pretty quickly after witnessing it due to its power so the people of Delphi could have been in a similar situation, simply worshipping it for its power. If Ouroboros is another entity above Nibelung though, they could have appeared to the people of Delphi as a benevolent being to sort of lead them astray. Could even be why the PO didn't want to bring them back up to the surface again right away.
      I do like your theory on PO being Ouroboros a lot, especially with the Aberaku stuff. Since Phanes is associated with serpents (assuming they're the same being) it'd fit pretty well. That does make me wonder if the line about serpents and dragons being kin/close (I forget the line exactly) has more relevance than just a throwaway line though. It'd be pretty interesting if the PO was actually related to the dragons in some way or that serpents and dragons make a sort of yin/yang pairing, maybe dragons representing the Light Realm and serpents the Void Realm. Just a thought though as iirc Orobashi was from the Human Realm.
      Thanks for the thought-provoking comment, hope I explained my reasoning well enough even if we don't agree on everything.

      @@TheLaughingManLore if you Google "hoyolab aberaku heretic" you should get hits for two of my articles detailing the evidence for Aberaku's heresy. The main one is titled, "Are not dragons and snakes kin?" -- revisited. Basically it is sourced to NOT the BtS&M book but the other one, "The Serpent and Drakes of Tokoyokoku" where we are told about several weird sayings of Aberaku which I think I do a pretty good job of explaining. Beginning with the phrase, "The universe has no beginning and no end, and so it was with the land that once was. But this matters not to us, for the land that bears us no longer has anything to do with that eternity without start or ceasing."
      Mostly beyond interesting background on Enkanomiya it's a story that tells about how Teyvat's time used to be different before the 2nd throne came.

      @@TheLaughingManLore Well I think the Aberaku heresy stuff does a good positive explanation of Ouroboros, but from a negative point of view we can see that it isn't a lot of things.
      Firstly the Ouroboros was known by the people of Enka to not be a true god. And that's weird. Why build a temple to a god you know is mythical in a world where real deities really exist?
      Secondly Delphi was called ancient at a time when the Ancient Civilization still existed, before Enka fell into the sea. So it would have been founded before a lot of possible objects of worship existed. It's older than the 2nd throne, older than Nebelung's revolt, earlier than the "gods" were created and I would say it's older than the Abyss too. The only thing humans worshiped back then was the Primordial One, with Seelies as go-betweens (envoys).
      Thirdly in later years the temple of Delphi seems more like a museum piece, dismissed as set up for a mythical god. By this time both the heresy of Aberaku (and the revolt of Spartacus) and the direct rule of Orobashi would take precedence over an old god that deserted it's people. In fact the existence of the Primordial One was not well known, allowing it to be kept a secret from the surface dwellers. Since Teyvat gods are real it's hard to explain why another deity would ... get forgotten. Well the god of time is forgotten in Mondstadt so a Shade would be a candidate.

      @@TheLaughingManLore The quote about Enka and the Light realm to me are describing the three way symmetry of realms that Enkanomiya recognized. In that view all three realms balance each other and constantly push against each other. The three towers are built to stabilize these forces. Their history says that before Enka fell to where it is on the boundary between Void and Light realms the area was unstable and adding the Human realm to the mix created stability. Now that may be nonsense but they liked their triangles. At any rate they didn't see any 2 realms as oppositional but rather all three had a symmetry. The triangle was equilateral not isosceles as it were.
      The 2nd quote is describing how SOME of the Light realm was taken and terraformed to become the Human realm. The rest of the Light realm that is untamed and toxic to humans is generally called "the Dark Sea" by humans in Teyvat. it's like "here be dragons" on an old map. As to what it means saying the Light realm helps the Human realm against the Abyss it's very open to interpretation but I figure it's a reference to Elemental magic (visions). The metaphor is "mother nature" and in the same way that humans have dominion over nature that doesn't mean ALL of nature. Just the nicest real estate, transformed to be suitable for human use.
      I was under the impression the Vishaps had a little better resistance to Abyss stuff than humans. And humans with Visions (elemental power) do better than humans without. But although it's called the Human realm in terms of energies humans usually don't have any Celestial energy. Seelies do and they apparently could make their homes in the Light realm without any problem when it would kill normal humans.
      There's two areas of evidence for the Abyss and Celestial energies being the paired opposition rather than Abyss Light realms. The first is the battle in the Chasm between Abyss and Celestial energy. The Nails in general are dropped to oppose Abyssal power. We're told both are forces from beyond the heavens . Kind of like the British and the French fighting in colonial North America with the Light realm representing the native Americans. The second area is René's comments about how Abyssal energy is like the Khvarena energy (which is the GoF's Celestial energy plus elemental energy from the two Archons). He notes that these higher energies are alien to Teyvat and can "assimilate" the local energies. he says they have "will" and the elemental Azosite lacks it.
      Oh well I just wrote an article called "The Minds of god, the Will of the Abyss" on this this morning that covers this stuff and how it relates to the Latin in the Abyss Lector's prayer books. But Google hasn't picked it up yet. Oh I see you found the Aberaku articles ; just go to my latest post to find the one on the elements.
