  • In this video we're looking into one of the darkest stories from the desert and seeing if the connections between Shiruyeh and Dottore are more than just a few coincidences. There are spoilers in the form of some footage if you haven't finished the 3.1 Archon Quests but nothing huge outside of trailer footage. Timestamps are below.
    This is a theory so I'm not stating anything as fact but I wanted to share my thoughts on what I've found and see what you think as the connections have been bugging me for weeks.
    Anyway I'm looking forward to the new patch out in a few hours! Hope everyone pulling gets lucky and savers hold strong, you're in the final stretch now Scara fans!

    This is aged like a fine wine. In the interlude we see Dottore during Scaramouche’s path to being a harbinger which possibly means hes older than 400 at this point. Patiently waiting for his artifact set!!

    “I heard that he took segments of himself at different ages, made prostheses out of them, and assigned different tasks to each one.”
    I think that this voiceline is frequently misunderstood. I think it's stating he cut up himself metaphorically, not practically.
    Basically he doesn't use biological segments of his body to produce the clones, he makes clones that resemble his past self, hence the sentence "built prostheses out of them."
    The phrase "segments" used here more accurately describes the various viewpoints he had throughout his life not his physical body
    or
    considering the Leylines have a younger copy of Diluc in them.
    What's not to say that Dottore found a way to extract the younger Leyline recordings of himself and place them in bodies
    that would explain why we hear voices of child dottore clones

      @TheLaughingManLore  Před rokem +25

      I hadn't considered that but it'd be an interesting take on the voiceline we got, so basically he makes clones/puppets and sort of downloads his mind state at a certain point in life?
      The leyline idea would tie-in to him always having that blue liquid (that I think are leyline energy kinda stuff) and I'd guess anything to do with manipulating that would require a lot of effort or resources so I could see the segments having something to do with that. Thanks for the alternative angles to look at this, some really interesting ideas.

    I think the two factors that disproves this theory is the differences between Dottore and Shiruyeh's character, Dottore is a scholar who pursues knowledge and is curious about the results of his experiments, while Shiruyeh for now with the given information, doesnt seem to be that type of person, plus I dont think Dottore is also that type of person to lead a rebellion.
    Then there is the timeline, which to me doesnt add up one bit, Dottore or Zandik was expelled from the Akademiya when he was in his youth while Shiruyeh got exiled in his adulthood. Now, I got a crack theory that can fix this issue. In the artifact "Wise Doctor's Pinion". the description says "Will you treat me like the Akademiya did? Will you call me a monster, a madman?"
    "Or will you treat me as my hometown did, and chase me away with pitchforks and clubs...?". I have this stupid idea in my mind that sounds like a stretch , but it's the only evidence we have that can resolve this issue that he was expelled from the Akademiya first, THEN he got exiled from his hometown, since in the Wise Doctor's Pinion it was written in the said order. Additionally, Shiruyeh was exiled because he was prophesized that he would be an "ill omen upon the king's land", this could mean that the reason he got chased out was because of rumors and gossips about the prophecy of him being an "ill omen", it is not clear if this is just a metaphor to maybe implicate that he would be a troublemaker? Or he would actually carry a plague with him, whatever the case is, the people probably intepret it as something negative and chased him out with pitchforks and clubs. The more that I think about it, the more my theory doesnt make sense 😂
    Also a bit unrelated, but I want to add something on Dottore, in the Wanderer Interlude quest, we seem him disguised as 'Escher' and later on we can even see him change his form back to Dottore, there was a Dutch graphic artist named Maurits Cornelis Escher, who is known for his impossible objects and optical illusions, if it isnt a coincidence, then it could imply that Dottore could have connections or influences from the irl Escher and this could suggest that he has illusion powers, as he utilized it to his advantage to infiltrate Tatarasuna as Escher, another thing this can also hint at is that he would be the man behind the idea of Mirror Maidens, in the description of Crystal Prism dropped by Mirror Maidens, it says "A prism that can bend light. Illusory images can be made using such prisms, giving such devices - in a manner of speaking - the power to sway human hearts.". In addition, in the wikipedia, it states that Maurits Escher "was for most of his life neglected in the art world, even in his native Netherlands". This parallels well with Dottore, being rejected by the Akademiya for his unethical experiments and ideas in his native home of Sumeru
    Just a crack theory of mine, wanted to share my thoughts on it, correct me if I'm wrong and dont take it too seriously😅, anyways, love your videos!

      That's a fair point but I think over centuries that he could've changed from being quite impulsive and rebellious into the calmer Dottore we know today.
      Hard to say how young Dottore was in both cases I reckon, since we know that Akademiya students can be there for a long time (iirc one is like 40+ isn't he?) and being called a youth can cover a fairly wide age range. To me it seemed like in both cases he was young adult/late teens sort of age. It could be that you're right though and I do feel a bit less convinced that Shiruyeh and Dottore were the same person after the newest desert lore. But I also hope they still are as it'd be so interesting haha.
      Ohh nice find! That's probably the case (him creating those prisms) since he seems to be the general inventor of the Harbingers involved with that sort of stuff. Unless it's something that Pierro introduced from Khaenri'ah as I reckon he must have a few strange items he uses for his magey stuff.
      I appreciate the well thought out comment! Same with my theories, I don't get too attached to them which makes it more fun to discuss as none of us really know which way the writers are gonna go.

    Yooo! Just saw this theory now after playing the archon quest, and I remembered something Dottore said about being rejected by his homeland *twice*! Which really checks out for this theory... This is really interesting! Hopefully it gets confirmed sometime later in the game, like with SIgnora.

      Even better, he said "I have no interest in being rejected by this city for a third time" which makes me think he was rejected as Shiruyeh, then Zandik and now Dottore. No information on him visiting as Shiruyeh as far as I know yet but it does line up with these different identities or phases of his life. Can't wait to find out more on him!

  • @Rock_on_R0bita

    I don't remember who came up with this Theory but somebody posted somewhere that it's possible that the creation of segments could be from the use of dream solvent (the material gained from defeating domain bosses) which would explain the glowing blue substance Dottore is observing in the Lazzo teaser and guessed if that's the same substance used in his earings.
    The earings could also function as something similar as a "dogtag" as well as something that keeps all the clones "together".
    (But looking at the aesthetic of King Desheret's ruins, could also say his design could signal to him being related to the desert)

    Fascinating theory, and - in my opinion has high probability to be true.
    Not only it sounds quite plausible, there sure must be a good reason why he is shown to us - the audience - as this cruel and insane individual with some ominous agenda of his own. It's extremally easy to see him just as another big bad. However, there's something about him - that I find calming.
    The way he talks and thinks doesn't fully align with what he does. (kind of like J. Mengele. While it's not my intent to say Dottore is just like Mengele, however there sure are many similarities. Both break most conventions be it moral or scientific. Both are seen as intelligent and at first pleasant people - that will torture a person, for the sake of learning something new. Both worked with dangerous diseases, and finally - both cause more harm than good, and are not the kind of "doctor" anyone would want to be patient of.
    As with most Genshin characters, there were probably many influences that formed the mixture that we know as "Dottore", and I have a feeling that in a matter of few updates - he will be besties with the Traveller. Perhaps he has the right idea, but his methods sure leave a lot to be desired. He doesn't exactly strike me as a one-dimensional enemy that will just die and give us upgrade materials...
    Genshin Impact sure follows the idea of "not all is as it seems" to the letter, so I expect a sudden twist and more character development for Dottore, and some proper explanation for why he goes to such lengths.
    Is it really just an insatiable thirst for knowledge, or perhaps - something else?
    He might be mad, but there's reason behind it all.
    He certainly is way less chaotic, than I first thought he was (back when I've read the manga). Which I find interesting and - at the same time - quite unnerving...
    Great vid as per usual. Keep up the good work, and have a good one.
    ~E.
    P.S. Thank you for reading this. Sorry the comment got a bit lengthy, tried to trim it a bit, but oh well.

      I'm glad you liked it! Wasn't sure whether I was just letting my imagination get carried away with a few things but there is something there I think.
      Exactly yeah, it's easier to understand his state of mind with information like this and even though it doesn't make him a good guy or explain his actions away it'd make sense that he became the way he is if he is Shiruyeh. I was surprised at how cold/evil Shirin was, made me feel a bit more unsettled that the Nilou footage fit perfectly with her story too haha.
      Mhmm I know what you mean on the Mengele stuff, I read a book on him a while back and I wouldn't be surprised if he were an influence of Dottore's as his notoriety with the experiments he conducted is fairly well-known these days.
      I'd hope he still retains his villainous side if he does join us but yeah I think the Fatui and possibly even some of the Abyss Order have knowledge about things we've still yet to learn that would probably make certain actions more understandable (not the experiments but the going against Celestia kinda thing).
      I was thinking the same thing as I was making the video, how he seems to have calmed down a lot since his depiction in the manga, maybe his time in the Abyss was kinda good for him, could even be he had a "master" down there like Childe and Skirk but then that'd be bordering on just re-telling Childe's story again when they're already fairly similar with falling into the Abyss (assuming the theory is true).
      Really appreciate the in-depth response as I love discussing this stuff so no need to apologise for that! Hope you have a great day too.

    Amazing video and why the hell have I found it after 8 months?!😭
    In the Sumeru arc we saw each of the characters representing a god or someone from Sumeru's history. Like Alhaitham and Deshret, Nilou and the goddess of flowers etc. It might be that Dottore being from Sumeru (and possibly playable) represents Shruyeh the Lord of Pestilence same as other characters.

  • @fatuusdottore
    @fatuusdottore Před rokem +9

    Tho I would say Dottore is just a regular human. It wouldn’t make sense for him to idolise the potential of humans whilst being not entirely human (half-elemental, as you say.)
    Dottore represents the ingenuity of mankind, which an arrogant false god like Nahida would of course look down upon.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před rokem +6

      That's a fair point, I'd say that with him probably hating his mother for manipulating him and her representing the jinni or elemental side he'd want to focus more on his human side but I'm not against him being a regular human.
