  • This video goes over the origins of Cyno, including his affiliation with the mysterious Temple of Silence as well as the lore on the identities of the Scarlet King, his three retainers (or magi?), Hermanubis and a bit on Alhaitham. I'll be focusing on the inspirations from Egyptian mythology and the lore we have from Sumeru to speculate on the possible history of these ancient characters too. While Genshin won't copy the mythologies they use for inspiration completely, I think there's still quite a lot we can learn from looking into the themes shared between them. Things get a little bit complicated but hopefully I explained things well enough to make sense without waffling on too much.
There's a boatload more we could talk about with different mythologies and references in the lore (like the Obelisks) that I didn't get to so let me know your favourites.
    00:00 - 04:04 Cyno and Anubis
04:04 - 05:58 Temple of Silence and the Scarlet King
05:58 - 07:40 The Scarlet King and Osiris
    07:40 - 08:21 Alhaitham/Thoth/Ibis King side note
    08:21 - 09:02 The Field of Reeds/Aaru
    09:02 - 09:33 Kasala, Cyno's ancestor(?)
09:33 - 11:15 Hermanubis, Hermes, Cyno, Alhaitham and the first civilisation
11:15 - 12:09 The Staff of the Scarlet Sands and Key of Khaj-Nisut
    12:09 - 12:48 The three retainers/magi titles
12:48 - 13:32 Sekhem Hall, the Sekhem Scepter and Osiris
13:32 - 14:19 The Scarlet King and Khemia
    14:19 - 15:40 The Ibis King's possible betrayal
    15:40 - 16:13 Cyno's divine spirit
    16:13 - 17:06 Cyno's past and links to Isis
    17:06 - 17:56 Ending/thanks for watching

Thank you so much for the analysis! It's so strange to me how deliberately vague they're keeping Cyno's origins at the moment. Hoping for a cool reveal sometime soon! Also, I noticed a lot of the desert folks treated Cyno under the assumption that he's always lived on the other side of the wall, which seemed strange to me. Even if you ignore his skin-tone, he's not exactly dressed like a normal Akademiya guy, and those jackal statues are everywhere! I get they probably heard rumors about the guy with the jackal hat who works from the Akademiya, but still, he's clearly not your average matra. You'd think they'd say he's a traitor or a hypocrite or something like that, but as far as I remember nobody does.

Same here, with all the stuff he has going on around him lore-wise I was expecting some big reveals when he released but hopefully they're saving it for a patch in the future. I thought the Eremites would call him a traitor too so I wonder if they just hadn't been to the part of the desert he was (maybe) raised in, it's a secret area or he went to the forest side when he was really young and so is considered not part of the desert. Praying that we get a new town or area in the desert that he was raised in and without spoiling anything, there's a little hint towards it at the end of the new archon quest from a new character.

@@TheLaughingManLore It being secret makes the most sense to me. "The Temple of Silence" sounds like the kind of place that would be kept secret. It took me a second to realize what you meant, but being in a secret, isolated place would explain a lot of that characters dialogue, wouldn't it?
Also, if it is a secret, it would explain the lack of acknowledgement from the eremites. It occurred to me that a lot of Akademiya students are foreigners, so they may just assume he's from somewhere else entirely if they don't recognize him or his clothes.

What I like the most about the Sumeru quests and the general lore is not just how beautifully you can trace their story with the Egyptian , Mesopotamia and Greek gods, but also, how the concept of Samsara can be viewed as full during the stories, and the meaning in between the relationships of the characters, being Cyno, Nilou and Nahida the most significant and important ones. Thanks a lot for your efforts!

I think there is still a chance that cyno's spirit is the scarlet king because while the eng translation of his burst description says he calls upon a "divine spirit" the Chinese translation is closer the word god

O wow, never knew there was so much background behind Alhaitham and Cyno. This even made think is Alhaitham was born part Eremite from one his parents side, but keep a secret to avoid being targeted.
This shows how much MHY shows their research. And while I don't fully believe on the reicarnation, I like to think this there's no coindidence about the characters's role and what they represent. That history is repeating itself but this time, their spiritual or bloodline sucessors are there to make things right on Sumeru.
    *Kandake:* Scion of Al-Ahmar.
    *Cyno:* Hermanubis or Scarlet King.
    *Alhaitham:* King Ibis.
    *Nilou:* Goddess of Flowers.
    *Nahida:* Rhukkadevata.

There's a lot more I didn't cover too but I'm trying to reign in my rambling recently haha. I think there's a strange connection with Alhaitham and the Scarlet King too, that gem and pattern on his chest reminds me a bit of the Scarlet King's depiction as an eye with the light beams coming out of it but it's more of a feeling than anything concrete atm.
100% yeah, I don't think that people are the exact copies of others from the past but the saying "history never repeats itself but it does often rhyme" kinda fits the idea I have atm. Similar people but with a different world and influences that changes how they act.

The wolf theme and white hair with red eyes is strangely similar isn't it? Hard to say much beyond that but perhaps they both originate from a certain clan like the Muratans who are all known to have fiery red hair.

heyy! i just watch this vid and it is amazing. have you done the windblume quest? it has some more lore to cyno and Lisa as Isis? I think you should make addition for Kaveh too? i have a theory that Kaveh has some kind of relation to Jinn. it said that Jinn are the one who build the Mausoleum of the Scarlet King, which similar how Kaveh being an architect.
And i am just sure that Al-Haitham might be the king Deshret because it said that King Deshret built his domain in the desert, full of ancient technology and mysterious power such as primal construct. And Al-Haitham skills are pretty much like the ancient technology/ the primal construct, his burst skill shoots light beam, it is just kinda odd how his element is dendro but his skills aren't much nature kind of thing.

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před rokem +2

Hey, thanks! I just finished the quest before and it was great, glad I knew to find Cyno in the library after the second story part as it was easy to miss that information. I'll have a look into Kaveh when we have him released as I'm quite interested in him too, would you mind deleting the leak stuff though please? Just so it doesn't spoil people or get me in trouble with hoyoverse haha.
Yeah I agree with Alhaitham's skills looking quite technological for a dendro character you'd associate with nature so there's gotta be some sort of Scarlet King connection - even if it's just some special ancient technology in the ruins or something. Hopefully Kaveh has some good lore we can dig into on his profile page, maybe how he got his suitcase (or created it).

@@TheLaughingManLore i also think about the anime named "over cautious hero" which the male main character were voiced by Alhaitham JP VA. the story was a man summoned as hero of a country by a goddess, but he needs to be prepared a lot before doing his missions. it turns out that this was the 2nd time he was summoned as hero. during his first time, he was a reckless one and in result he lost his lover, so then he make a note for himself to be more cautious in his kind of property or status window.
and seeing how ambitious king deshret was, maybe he reincarnated to al-haitham who was claimed to be just a scribe so he wont made the same mistake he caused in the past. it is just my theory after seeing the similar story hehe

    • @TheLaughingManLore
      @TheLaughingManLore  Před rokem +1
