  • As we get into the holiday mood at the White Lab Workshop, I thought it would be fun to make a holiday-themed project. With a twist. For this week's woodworking video, I'll show you how to make some DIY home decor wooden snowflakes. The twist is that they will use more interesting joinery than just brad nails. Overlapping joints and dowels will hold these snowflakes together, with the help of some glue.
    Materials and tools used:
3/4 inch by 3/4 inch square dowels - Pick them up at the home center or mill them yourself
    3/8 inch dowel
    Craftsman table saw
Dado stack (though the dados could be cut with a router or other means)
    Dewalt sliding miter saw
Titebond II wood glue (polyurethane glue would work well too, if your joints have some play in them)

Hi Brent, Wow what a job. These turned out great with the special help of the young ones. What wonderful memories.

I wasn’t actually sure if these would work. It was kind of an experiment in joinery for me, which was fun. Plus, any time in the shop with my kids is a bonus! Thank you for watching, Rita!

Thanks Grant! It’s awesome having all these helpers. They do get kind of expensive, though. Always demanding food and a place to live. They do good work, so I guess I’ll let them stay...

Love the snowflakes!! Thinking maybe some glitter on them would make them sparkle although it can become a nuisance!

Thank you! I suspect there are members of my family that would agree with you, though they aren’t the same members that would have to deal with the glitter getting everywhere...

Unfortunately, I have to admit that life got in the way of my intentions of posting plans for these thus far. Hopefully the video gives you enough to go on. It’s a fun project! Enjoy the process!

@@WhiteLabWorkshop I winged it and came up with a useable end result! Very satisfying when all three pieces slip snugly together! It’s my secret how many I made before achieving that! Ha!

@@tomt9543 Excellent! I’m glad you figured it out! And you can keep your secret as long as I can keep secret how many tries it took me 😆

Thank goodness I had my epi pen. The geometry allergy was unreal. That was a very impressive build. The joinery was incredible. Great video, yet again!

Haha! Thanks, Richard! Good to hear you made it through the geometry section without any major incidences. I honestly wasn’t sure if it would work at first. It was a pleasant surprise!
