    Okay, just off the top of my head: Make sure the rental receipts are issued to your NIF on the Portuguese IRS Portal; turn on all major appliances at once to confirm you won’t run into any surprises in winter or while trying to use the dishwasher and the AC at the same time; run several faucets open at once to check whether there’s enough water pressure to keep, e.g., a hot shower and the washer working at the same time. This might sound silly, but Campo de Ourique is a fairly old neighbourhood, construction-wise, and those issues are not unheard of. Good luck 🤞

      @Paulo de Sousa muito obrigada mesmo, great tip! Would you be able to advise on deposit please? I've read that it's common for landlords to ask for a fiador or for a few months rent deposit, which are NOT protected like in the UK, for example. How do Portuguese people normally go about this please? Muito obrigada pela atenção e ajuda!

    This video is EXCELLENT! I have it saved - hoping to relocate by the end of 2022. I find that many content creators skip over the details, but the details what many people forget about or stress about -- like a/c in one room vs the whole place, and the countertop dishwasher... Having said that, you did skim over the part about utilities; what is included/not included, how are they paid for/hooked up. Hopefully this will be addressed when you talk about your specific apartment. Thanks for this video!

Would you be able to do a video about which USA appliances work in Portugal or the type of converter plug you need for your USA computers, lap tops, cell phones, electric shavers, etc. So far I haven’t seen many people talking about little details like that.

      Cell phones & laptops should be ok, make sure you have the proper converter (and it’s not an old computer) but any other appliance, forget it. Hair dryers, curling irons, shavers… and so on, they will blow out. :)

    Thanks much for this, and very helpful. But several questions I am not clear about: how much you paid for it? How much of a deposit for how many months? And was it not risky renting from the owners directly, given the warning by the expatseverywhere? You know, I suspect, what happened to their apartment in Porto, and they had to move out because of mould and flooding problems. Fortunately, the company they rented from relocated them since they have other apartments; but single owners cannot do that in case something goes wrong with the apartment. So they recommended renting from a company. But they said the same company may not be available everywhere though.

    • @HoneymoonAlways
      @HoneymoonAlways  Před 3 lety +2

      We will do a new video with more details on our actual apartment, but we ended up paying €1,300, 2 months up front and 1 month as a security deposit, so 3 months total. As far as single owners vs a company, I think both can work out well. We felt really comfortable with the family we are renting from and like that they lived in the property for 10 years themselves until it was too small for thier growing family. They also had recently done some improvements that showed to me they were taking care of the house. So it really just depends on the situation I guess. I guess time will tell if we made the right choice.

      With D7 visa you need to stay in the country at least half year (6 months), but you need to show at least accommodations for 6 months can be one month in 6 different airbnb. If they ask in SEF appointment why you stay in different places, you tell them that you want to live in Portugal but you are feel different places to make a wise choice where you going to live.
      Another thing that nobody are saying, you need to have a portuguese cellphone number, because almost COVID messages, fire warnings and lots of government issues, they send a message to all portuguese cellphone, when you go to SEF in Portugal. They going to ask, my lawyer friend have to give his number temporary to some Brazilian clients.

    With current Pandemic, it's a good time to lease an apartment. Owners are more open to lower prices, but also to ease some stuff that usual they don't.
    If the apartment has no AC, the best time to take a tour is in the afternoon, that way, you will see how good / bad is it, at the hottest time of the day.
    Idealista.pt , imovirtual.com, those are general purpose sites, so the user is responsible for the information. So they might not be updated to the day, and that's why you got a bunch of places already booked, compared to sites owned by real estate companies, like remax and century21.
