    I agree totally on how well stock tune flies, on 7" or whatever preset you choose.
    Anyone doing cinematic, pleasure, or long range flying should be using iNav and not BF. It flies so well out of the box!@@
    We don't have worry about the finicky esoterica of BF such as prop wash, mid throttle oscillations and all of that which Bardwell talks about.
    iNav "just works" ;)
    Oh, and iNav has a "true" return to home, not the relatively immature BF GPS rescue. My favorite thing when playing around is to trigger a RTH and watch it land back where it was armed...

      Will it Southland or will it just kind of crash itself into the ground? Do you have to kind of take over as it gets closer to you? I have a 7-in that I am putting together and probably won't be done till spring, but I'm very curious about how well the return to home works.

    • @GrahamCropley
      @GrahamCropley Před 3 lety +1

      @@djwilson48625 it will return to the landing spot (as close as GPS can get it, within a meter or so), then it will lower itself slowly until it 'detects' the floor (it feels a bump), and then will carry on lowering throttle itself until it 'lands' then will completely disarm if also configured to do so. All of that is 'hands off' and automated.

      For me it is quite opposite. BF 4.2 with all defaults + RPM filter flies great. I recently converted to iNav and am fighting to make it fly good. Has a lot of mid throttle oscillations

    After 2+years flying a micro (ET100) I finally got my 7inch flying....
    Had troubles, being a noob, with a couple of settings in 2.5 iNav & briefly flashed to BF 4.2 for testing purposes...
    Went back to iNav 2.5 & sorted settings & FINALLY got it working (thanks to advice in email from Pawel!)
    MY GOD it 'feels', to me, SOOOO much better in iNav than BF!!!!
    Bit of a learning curve for a middle-aged noob, but will be sticking to iNav from here on out...
    Thank YOU Pawel, iNav devs & testers for this awesome software!

    Great tuto, very interesting. I'd like very much to try on quads, and mainly because the more evoluate "GpsRescue", maybe even the waypoints possibilities if some, are very appealing.
    I put a gps on all my quads from 5-to 7 inch and it save me quite a lot of hours looking for, or climbing trees ....., what I'm very bad at.
    Therefore if you have the time to make a part 2, with GPS functionalities, it would be great, cause I guess it's a point where Inav have quite a lot to say.
    Many thanks for all your nice job Pawel.

    When going BACK to BF, and you run into errors, go into CLI, type BL (in BF), and the board will boot to reflash BF.

  • @uavtech

    It really should fly just about the same now (iNAV 2.6 vs. BF). The only real differences now seem to be:
    1. RPM vs no RPM
    2. Throttle based adaptive lowpass filters vs. a the co-variance based (on past gyr data) adaptive lowpass filter (the Unicorn filter).
    3. Rates (probably the biggest difference!)
    4. RC Smoothing methods
    5. FeedForward interpolation vs. no interpolation options?

    • @FPVUniversity

I have an application where I would like to see a more stable level mode without using GPS or sonar. Here is the velocity p gain cli term: nav_mc_vel_xy_p

    Very interesting. If I have a Betaflight quad with GPS and barometer will it work with iNav navigation modes or does it need a magnetometer too? If it needs a magnetometer, does the magnetometer need to be on a mast like is typical with ArduCopter?

    • @Steve-O_FPV
      @Steve-O_FPV Před 2 lety

      First you need to make sure your FC supports INAV. If you try to flash INAV on a "BF only" board you may brick it. You need a GPS with compass (mag) and no, does not need to be on mast (it will be snapped right off in a good crash) but you need to isolate it away from the majority of the electronics as best as possible and maybe wrap the wires.

      @@FPVUniversity Thank you for the link and the guidance! I successfully installed iNav on my iFlight Defender25 using the steps provided. However, I encountered an issue with the ESCs. The motors did not initialize properly after the installation.
      Specifically, the motors do not make the usual initialization sounds when I plug in the battery, and they don't respond at all. I've checked the configuration and made sure the motor resources and ESC protocol are set correctly, but the problem persists.
      Could you please provide some guidance on how to resolve this issue? Any tips or steps to troubleshoot the ESC initialization would be greatly appreciated.
      Also, do you have a Discord channel for more direct communication and support?
      Thank you in advance for your help!
