His really goofy attitude and over the top ways of expressing his emotions made him really entertaining and fun to interact with. There was always this charm that kept people coming back. Of course his channel and content wasn't for everyone, but to a lot of people he was really something special

My personal gripe with this was when Ethan was droning on about "it's not as bad as you think" "most of the time nothing's even wrong" etc. Wrong, a lot of people are put in a state of severe depression because of events that happen back to back. It could be bullying in high school, feeling like they have nobody that cares about them and such, in some cases, yes sometimes there is nothing really wrong but in their mind they don't realize that. Just because you aren't suffering doesn't mean someone else isn't and Ethan did a poor job trying to convey his point.
Ethan actually just gained an entirely new level of respect from me. He has now become my MOST favorite person on youtube. i’ve been watching for a while and at my lowest point in the middle of grieving, he exposes the one guy i despise the most. Thank you, Ethan for that brink of hope, papa bless.

My mother has manic bipolar tendencies- I say this because she has episodes that are undiagnosed-- and my uncle is schizophrenic-- diagnosed.
My family has a long line of temper issues and sometimes I feel like I'm not even human or normal in a way. If people tell me im dramatic or my family says I'm explosive I don't know what to think. Am I? I feel like a monster, a creation of bloodline and genes and it's so unsettling. I don't trust my own thoughts even if other people tell me it's justified.
I've dealt with physical and mental abuse and manipulation in my family and when i voice myself they laugh, tell me to get over it-
make me think I am acting like a child.

and I remember one day in highschool I sat on the bus home and just had this finalized, solid thought. "When I get home, I'm taking the gun my dad owns off the wall, walking to a field behind my house in the woods, and shooting myself."

I am still sad about Etika, still remember getting hyped about his Smash 4 DLC reactions, I stopped watching him for a while, and when I saw him again he didnt act the same way I remembered and he seemed a lot meaner and a lot less stable and when the news came out I genuenly got sad because the times flew and hes gone now I didnt see the same Etika that brought joy to the Smash Community for many of us, i know that probably nobody will see this comment but I felt like I had to say how I felt about this.

If you’re really depressed...time can make it worse. It really depends what it is you do with the time. Naps don’t help because you wake up and the first things you think about are your demons. The best advice is that you need a better environment surrounded by better people. Coming from personal experience

Whenever you feel down in the dumps, instead focus your energy on something that you enjoy or makes you happy, try to accomplish something to remind yourself that life is still worth living. I know it sounds cheezy, but give it a try. And the fact that you're safe and well and alive is all that matters at the end of the day. Hope this helps, bro.

Just watched this and it was my first time watching Etika. It's a shame when you look at the highs vs the lows. But it's absolutely disgraceful to do the shit JayStation pulls out of his ass to get views.
zane0814 when you suffer bi-polar, the highs are really highs. The lows are really low. I think apart of what made people attracted to him, was his energy and enthusiasm. But the thing is, he didnt realize he had this condition. So a lot of the qualities people liked, were partly due to his “highs” that you experience with the condition. You are super energetic and sometimes even euphoric. And it shows in his content.
Sadly, he was probably suffering lows behind closed doors. And eventually those lows spilled out into his social media content. I think that was one of the points Etika made in his final video. That because he was so obsessed with Social Media, so wrapped in it, that platform enabled and broadcasted those lows, in ways they normally wouldnt be. And because he didnt realize what he was doing wasnt normal (that he was having a manic episode), his actions were being put on display for millions.
It sucks that so many people mocked him. Trashed him. Or so many people watched as entertainment, instead of getting the guy help. Its true he had people in his life that attempted to get him help. Sadly often a side effect to mental Heath disease, is denial. Or getting angry when people say you need help. Because you often feel like you are god. Like what you are doing is 100% right, so those questioning you, must be trying to hurt you.
But it still doesn’t change the fact that millions of people watched as entertainment, or to hate on him. Rather then encourage him to seek help.

when i was 19, i lost everything in my life .. it has taken me years to rebuild my life, it’s been a back and forth and a constant uphill battle, but things got better
in the last 6/7 months i’ve been going through a lot with a breakup and needing to completely change my life around because of it - even in this last week with uni assignments and work i’ve been having break downs, emotional outbursts and panic attacks; thought about quitting my job or dropping out of uni because things just weren’t going right .. but waiting for the stress to slowly ease off and i’m feeling a little better

People need to take people saying “I’m going to kill myself” seriously regardless of whether they believe they’ll actually do it or not. People don’t say that for no reason. Sometimes it can be used as manipulation which is different but in this case the person was clearly mentally unwell. How are you only gonna feel sympathy when a person actually does kill themselves? People care about people who have committed suicide but not about people who are suicidal and this is a classic example.

Rest in Piece Etika. I was never a huge fan when it came to actually watching your CZcams content, but you were a legend when it came to the memeing community. That’s how I discovered his kind soul, people were making amazingly hilarious edits of his videos and posting them on Instagram and I fell in love. Finally another gaming CZcamsr I could get interested in!! Not even a couple days after I officially subscribed I see a tribute on one of my favorite meme accounts for his him and his work, on insta. I was absolutely shocked and was filled with regret for not finding out about him sooner, I just wish I could’ve been in the loop well enough to know how bad his mental state was so I could’ve been there to support him. Dealing with depression is one of the most hopeless feelings anyone could ever experience and I would not wish such a thing on my worst enemy. It truly is hell on earth when you feel as if the world would be better or unchanged without you in it. It’s stuff like this that’s wrong with our country. A young man can’t come forward about mental illness without people judging him and laughing or assuming he is a liar. As a young man in America you are 4 times as likely to commit suicide by the age of 30 then a woman. It’s examples like this that really goes to show how hopeless a young man can feel all because he doesn’t have the outlets and resources that others may have. As a young boy growing up in America I was constantly fed the lie that I shouldn’t cry. If something upset me I should “man up” and deal with it in a more progressive and thoughtful type of way. That’s not how you should raise a child. Day after day boys are pitted against one another over who’s taller , who’s stronger , who’s got a deeper voice, who’s got chest hair already, when’s the last time you cried? As a society we should stop looking towards men as these big oafs who have no emotion. Don’t get me wrong, as a boy growing up it’s important to “man up” at times, but that shouldn’t be said to a young boy who happens to be crying over something an adult feels as if he shouldn’t be upset about. It’s that constant fear that is instilled in every young boy that they must be as manly as possible and a lot of the times sadly, this is the outcome.
Depression and/or mental illness is something you can't really understand unless you suffer from it.
Also, it's not a good idea to go to a large group of random strangers on the internet for help. At best, they'll give out the suicide prevention phone number. At worst, they'll troll you.
Yea exactly, i'm not sure I would say they internet failed him since it's hard for people to really understand or know someone through the videos they make and it's hard to know what's real on CZcams as well. Also it's hard for even people close to them to really notice unless you already know what it feels like yourself. Also no one ever thinks someone will kill themselves or that they are depressed since it's hard sometimes for even the person that is feeling it to know what's going.
Luckily when I was feeling suicidal people took me seriously. I don't want to watch the guys videos because I still get "triggered" easily. I'm really feel sorry for this dude.
People need to take mental illness seriously. It's the biggest killer of men under 40. The numbers don't lie. Mental illness is an imbalance in the brain much like diabetes is an imbalance in insulin levels. One chemical out of balance in your body can make your ill as fuck.

Real depression is not something that just hits you one day then it's gone. Most ppl suffering from depression have to live with it everyday and for ppl who can't understand what that's like imagine taking the feelings from your worst day and having those feelings everyday.
Feeling hopeless is a mindstate. If youre depressed and you think things will never improve, they probably wont. How you think is half the battle
