- "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
This 1980 Dodge truck originally left the factory with 318 power, but along the way, a big block was swapped out instead. Unfortunately, the engine was left to the elements and is in need of repair. Follow along as we bring this beautiful and rare Dodge truck back from the dead!

Enjoyed! Great job Dylan!
matching trucks? showdown?
Nice when a feller, or fellet, appreciates another feller's hard work.

A guy is thinking a showdown needs to happen. 🤘🏻🇺🇸
This is not grammer skool , wear talkies mechanics her. No need for the grammer lassen.
Hi Dylan, I'm an old combat vet of the V/N war, 74 yrs of age. I love mopars, have owned many of them from the '50s, '60s, 70s. I've built my share of em , especially from the 60s. One of my fav engines was the Chrysler poly series. Until the 440, 383, 426 wedges. I'm 74 yrs old now, diabetic, and knees from two tours of trudging thru the away valley, and the surrounding mountains. But seeing you save so many of these cars n trucks, hearing them fire up and burn some rubber makes me smile for days. I built some 318, 361, dodge 325, and they'd haul, but nothing hails like a 440, 383, 426w, I wish I could build one today, but I'm a realist, I know what it takes, and I just ain't got the ways n means. But I enjoy watching a young man doing what you do, keeping them going. Great work young man!!!!
Another trick for changing the valve stem seals on an assembled engine is to feed a length of nylon rope in through the spark plug hole and bring the piston up against the valves. Holds them in place just fine!
Been working on Old Dodgers for years never thought about that never too old to learn
What a beaut! Classic trucks are so underappreciated.....
What I love about your channel as opposed to most car CZcamsrs I watch is that you give old vehicles a new life. What most of us would see as a hunk of junk, you see potential.
I agree somewhat but he does give up on cars now & then & they get sold unfinished or get hooked back up to the tractor for the "drag of shame" back to the wooded storage area at the back of his parents property.
I’m a lifelong Chevy guy but you’re making me fall in love with old Dodges. Doesn’t help I want a Ram Rebel right now haha
Dodge is cool but extremely expensive not a great choice if you're poor .
I had one of these when I was in high school. Mine was a 1979 Dodge custom single cab short bed, and my neighbor owned a1978 long-bed . I think they're really nice solid trucks
Old Mopar 727's and mud dauber nests go hand in hand. You scored on this truck!
Dylan, I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel grow. The quality of your videos has really improved and I thoroughly appreciate the content you’re putting out. Great job, man.
I feel like I learn something new every time I watch this channel
Dylan, I really enjoy all you do with repairing old automobile's, it's fascinating, creative, and rewarding work, continued success. My favorite part of your channel however, are the scripture versus you post on every new episode. They're inspirational, uplifting words that are very important and exactly what is needed in these times we live in. Keep up the good work, and thank you.
The Perfect thing for Perilous times.
One of the reasons I enjoy your channel is you go into a lot of detail and explain exactly what you are doing and why. Keep up the great work.
The exhaust crossover isn't to warm the engine up faster, it's to keep the fuel from condensing on the intake manifold walls and atomized better.
Dylan, thank you for doing new videos! Watching this video lets me got distracted for some time from the current situation in my country (Ukraine). I’m imagine that I do it by myself under your control. I would like to restore one of american classic cars ( 70’s Charger is my favourite).
Looks great Dylan! Can't wait to hear it run!
Dylan, I’d love to see you work on an early 50’s Dodge Power Wagon. 4x4, winch, long-bed… you know the government model (Forest Service or Park Service).
I used to work at a used car dealership. Once or twice a month a man named Sonny would show up and do under the hood detailing of all the auction cars. He only used rattle cans. 1 flat black, 1 gloss black, 1 high temp clear coat, 1 high temp silver, and then he had cans of high temp engine color in different colors. That high temp clear coat makes hoses, wires, firewalls and faded paint pop like new paint. LOL He was worth what ever they paid him. After the customer bought the car or truck that high temp clear coat would start to loosen up and look bad but it was too late by then. Oh I forgot the can of Gunk engine cleaner. He would spray the entire engine bay with Gunk and use the parts cleaner brush to scrub the crusty old dirt and grease off everything. The high temp silver makes old mufflers look new.....Wink, Wink Say No More !!!
So glad you took the time to clean up the engine bay and bring it around! My favorite is that Trail Duster, this is a close second!!!
Love all the budget minded content! Keep it up!
My uncle had one of these all fixed up with a big block in it. I love these trucks

Great video man, this one really got to me. I had a 79 power wagon that I bought as a partially finished project and I spent 5 years completing everything. It was a beautiful blue truck with a lumpy cammed 360 and edelbrock 4 barrel sitting on a 4 inch lift and 35s. I loved her so but sadly fell on some hard times and had to sell her a year ago. It was really fun watching you work on this one because I know every inch of those trucks and remember the dumb diagnostic port and everything else under the hood as I had spent countless hours sitting on those fenders tinkering under the hood. Thanks for this one, it brought back some good memories 👍
Big block power!!! Man that engine looks awesome great job man
I love how you are so determined to detail! Thank you for sharing. I really enjoy the restoration process. God bless you and your family and your mission brother! ❤️🙏🏻
I have been watching you for a few years now please don’t stop doing what your doing.
Looks awesome under the hood after clean up! It's in great condition for a 1980! I can't wait to hear that big block start up and run! I hope that torque flight transmission is good and can smoke the rear tires! Take care.
Wow, I really can't believe how good that engine and bay came out. That's an awesome build. Extreme envy on my behalf...lol This REALLY makes me miss my old 84 Ramcharger.
Had a 1980 1/2 ton short bed truck like this, we used it for everything. I did not have big block, but a little slant six which did do well in ice and snow. I do have to admit I like the sound and power of a bigger motor. Your older engine bay is a little nicer to work on than the late 90's going forward, because of the engine setting back so far and the firewall cowling, You do nice job of laying out the project and the steps along the way.
That turquoise looks soooo good in a black bay!👍😎
Another very enjoyable episode. Its amazing how much you can accomplish on a budget. Not to mention the power of soap and pressurized water! Thanks Dylan. Peace!
Thanks for giving out parts numbers. Helps a lot.
Great video dude! Can't wait for the next one. You're giving me the motivation to build the next 460 for my Lincoln MK4, and maybe even get started on my 1949 Packard!!😁
It’s hard to describe how much I enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work
Can't wait to hear it run and see it moving down the road👍👍😃😃
Great stuff this is my ideal way of working since the 70s cash-poor but ample time swap meets recycling cleaning I like the direction your channel is going cheers bro
While it takes some extra time to clean everything, its nice to not get dirtier than a 1980's Madonna music video every single time you touch something😁
Ik it's kinda hard to but could you do a video of organizing your garage and maybe organizing the vehicles in what year model and make. It'll be nice to watch and it'll help you out
Nice truck I'm in the process of building a 1979 318 auto long bed, doing transmission rebuild now found it super clean in az.
Really appreciate the content you produce. Really helpful and a lot of information and tips for me. I own a 1981 Ramcharger 318cid truck in Estonia and it is really hard to find good video content that is understandable and relatable. Really a good find of a channel in my opinion! Keep it up!!
What An Awesome Build Dylan, That’s Going To Make For A Great Shop/Dailey/Fun/Workhouse Unit.. Keep Up The Great Works Good Sir..
I drove a 1980 Dodge Ram short box 2WD in Cordovan Brown with tan interior. Had the 225ci slant 6 with a 4spd manual.
Loved that truck! Wish I still had it. Always dreamed about a 360 swap but never did it.
Some day maybe I’ll do it. As you’ve documented. The old Dodges are everywhere.
Enjoy the way you explain all of your work. You are an excellent teacher.
Man, I absolutely love that truck!! And the time and extra touches you're doing are awesome!
That truck in Eastern Canada, where I am, would cost $$35-4000 as it sat when you bought it. Around here the rust from salt on the roads makes it so there are none left in that shape and are still overpriced.
Here in mn and nd too
Same here in NY rust block capital
@@MidnightPolaris800 sucks. There is no such thing as a barn find either. Any found have big price tags.
@@wreckerjonny6144 wish I could spend a month in the southern states and bring something back without jumping through hoops to cross the border although presently the prices have gone up between 40-60% for a project
@@frankrizzo5057 get a BC or Alberta truck. Rust free without customs hassle.
Just don't get one that Zip Ties and Bias Plies has owned lol
I had a 77 D200 with a factory 400 and 727. I installed full length Hedman Elite headers that were heavy 14 gauge tubing and ceramic coated. They fit beautifully, sounded awesome with dual glasspacks behind them, and made a lot more power! But they were 300 bucks, back in 2002!
Your dad is a pro at engine removal.
Dylan if you will pack your oil pump with either vaseline or white lithium grease, your pump will immediately start pumping, and both of those will break down immediately once it starts picking up heat in block.
Plus the lithium gives you a little wear protection everywhere else including gears of your oil pump as does the vaseline as far as you have no dry gear on gear, and where they touch in the housing.
I've used this at track when I've had to pull one's lower end apart to fix a number of things down there that require pan coming off.
No cavation or other issues that causes pumps to be slow on picking prime to start drawing oil through pumps
Looking good Dylan. Can't wait to see the finished product! This will be one sweet truck.
Awesome video! Can't wait for part 2
In July of 78 I bought a new D150 custom with a 400/727 I had to pay extra for the chrome front and rear bumpers they were just like those. My truck was a regular cab long bed with carpet ac power steering and brakes. I paid $6565.00 for it. Sure miss that truck but it got totaled in a wreck.
Ya know what would be cooler than a big block truck? A big block truck with a six speed manual!
Love your work brother, keep finding these cars and bringing them back to life!
Coming along well love the turquoise against the black engine bay looks super clean nice work @Dylan McCool
Hello Dylan!
Enjoy your videos!
It’s refreshing to see a video without all the vulgar cursing that’s seen/ heard on other sites!
May God richly bless you!!
I’m loving this project already. Ya can’t go wrong with a Big Block MOPAR Truck 🛻 this is a sweet ride and looking forward to seeing the next video. I’m vacationing in Morristown TN this week.
We had a '77 D100 short box. It was red with tan vinyl interior. Powered by a greasy 318. What a great truck !
Nice work, nice truck always fun to watch your projects !👌
Congratulations on Half million 🎉🎉💯
Great video! Awesome job! I can’t believe how resourceful you are.
I'm in the process of getting a shortbed Dodge truck back together. Mine's an '88.... was a V6, then a 440, it's back to being a V6 again! Factory Red on Red. I've got a few little odds and ends after spending the last 6 months putting it back together. Might be running this week. It's a nice little bookend to my red '87 Shelby Daytona.
Your a super cool dude met you and your parents last year at moparty. Can't wait to see this tin grill doing burnouts!
Always amazing content from Dylan every time
Yeah buddy he's a tough funny god ol country boy.
VERY nice addition to the fleet. Top shelf engine bay. Looking forward to crank day!
I would have went back with a manual myself. I've not seen a lot of 4-wheel drive vehicles on the channel.
I haven't finished the video, but I think Dylan must have the souls of the Dodge boys in his pocket, especially when it comes to the trucks😁👍
I've just discovered your channel in the last couple months. I am now a subscriber and a fan of your channel I like the presentation of your content. Great job!!!
Love classic rebuilds.... Great job.
And here I thought you were going to put a 4 speed back into the truck.. 3 pedals.... Standard shift is so much fun..... Nothing Beats a bit of elbow grease and some Krylon semi gloss black under hood...
Great short bed Dylan! Can’t wait to see the finish product! Looks like it gonna rip
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Excellent video Dylan :) also looking forward more videos too soon and truck first start too! Also are put new wire harness for engine too and think be excellent idea !
Love an old school Dodge. Grandfather had a 78 Dodge halfton with slant six and three speed. 😊
Great video, Dylan. I enjoyed the detail you've provided. I have an '89 Dodge D100 with a 318 -- hasn't been modified. Your work makes me appreciate more what I have! Keep it up!
steve
I’m not a mopar guy, but you’ve definitely made me see them differently. Keep it up!!
Great job, Dylan. This is all very familiar. My daily driver is a 78 D100 short bed that I swapped in a 400 last fall. It runs great, literally drive it every day. 11 mpg.
Same my daily is a 78 w150 club cab with a 360. Now 4 barrel with intake headers, dual exhaust and soon a cam. BTW the alligator clip looks like the power wire he may want to hold on to that one.
Great ! I love the 400 once you add actual compression , and get away from that 7 : 1 garbage way down in the cylinder.
Nice truck can't wait too hear it running. Thanks for sharing
Great video. That is going to be one cool truck.
Nice work! It is good to know that others appreciate a nice clean and freshly painted vehicle. It drives me nuts watching other videos of guys pulling a motor and just throwing it in another vehicle. My attitude has always been while you have it out, why not freshen it up. ty for the great content and teaching others how to paint correctly with a rattle can.
Thanks for the video. That is a very nice Dodge you have there. Nice work man.
Can’t wait to hear it run! Thanks
Wow, that truck is solid. Nice new project!
I love the things you do man.and you are very well organised .plus when you work on cleaning area and that is the most important thing.thanks for all your efforts.god bless you and your family.
Right On Time Brother
Love the Mopars! Great video!
Oh boy he's at it again👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
I love your videos dude. Never a disappointing watch.
Love your videos, great choice of music too.
Love the videos. Keep them coming, Dylan. Cheers 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Nice clean install... Made it look factory!!
Very cool ! I have a 78 2wd Trailduster that will cruise on a roller throttle body 318 for now. I sat the 78 body onto a 1990 Ramcharger running frame. 318 / 500 od.
Great job.
Looking forward to the next video.
Hey man it needs a 4 speed back in it and hello from Blount county Alabama 🇺🇸
Looking great Dylan good job so far!
Hey Dylan thank you for the video I enjoyed it a nice truck there looks good it's slowly getting there
Dude you are a genius, you say it's basic but it's all hard work you do it like I do tree work and clean up yards so badass so badass dude you kill it God bless you love the garage
Thanks for letting us know about the booster option(3/4t truck). I have an 87 D150 and I swapped the valve covers and later the heads but have been fighting the clearance to the booster the whole time.
Great content, great to see your Dad and great music. Thank you and Lord Bless you and your family and fans.
Very exciting project! Congratulations
The country instrumentals sound so good. This one in particular at 8:30. Keep it up
Especially the Steel Fiddle/ Steel Guitar
GREAT JOB DYLAN!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE!
Great job, that engine compartment looks great.
