- JUST REVEALED Why Piastri REJECTED Alpine | Oscar Piastri, Piastri Alpine F1 News, Formula 1, F1 Highlights
Piastri and Alpine have definitely kept us all entertained just as the summer break begins. Alpine announced Piastri as their driver for the 2023 season, and the 21-year-old Aussie opened up to the world, denying Alpines statement. Why, you may ask yourself? Stick around until the end to find out the real reason.
The Piastri and Alpine's controversy first started when Alpine was supposed to send Piastri to Williams. This was part of an agreement that would see the British constructors use Renault engines beginning next season. The Australian champion in F2 should’ve replaced Nicholas Latifi, so he would gain knowledge and then replace Fernando Alonso, who was supposed to proceed with his agreement with Alpine until 2024.
In today's video we look at JUST REVEALED Why Piastri REJECTED Alpine. Keep watching to see the latest F1 News, F1 Highlights.

POLL: Which team do you think Piastri will drive for in 2023? 👇
Williams?
McLaren!
Albon trolled us all! Maybe McLaren!
Williams!
Could be Williams!
Imagine if Piastri isn't going to make 2023 lineup. It's going to be peak.
But he won't make it. Or will on a lesser team like Alpha Tauri. DR has one year left, Alpine might not take him back and everywhere else looks covered or is lesser than Alpine or McLaren
@Driv3r it would be epic if didn’t 🤣
I feel like he won’t
this aged like milk :)
i honestly don't think he will have a seat for 2023
Doesn't make sense to him to turn Alpine down for McLaren, he's making a move on Red Bull. My bet is that he drives for AlphaTauri em 2023.
actually it does, while they seem on pair right now, Mclaren is overall more competent, it wouldnt make sense if he rejected Alpine for Sauber but for Mclaren, it makes sense
Agree, i think he will be groomed to replace checko, as much as people want Danny Ric gone, i dont think he's leaving mcClaren till end of 2023
Gasly to Alpine?!
@@josea1707 Tsunoda might as well be out
@@SantosOverlord competent since when? Since Ron Dennis was there or compared to ferrari maybe
Piastri should have been giving the opportunity to race by Alpine much earlier! They have taken him for granted!
So true! They really neglected him
Do you think so ? Alpine raised Piastri since 2019. And many rookies start as reserve drivers. Piastri owes to Alpine. Also it is difficult to end a deal with such a good driver as Alonso. So what ? Is it really Alpine fault when both Alonso and Piastri have no loyalty ?
Yes and no, Fernando is a masterclass driver I wouldn’t take the gamble on a rookie either tbf.
@@gpcentral They really didn't in my opinion. Alpine invested so much into Piastri, for example all those F1 Testing-days with the 2021 car which probably costed millions. There was just no space on the grid for him this year else he probably would have been given a seat
100% alpine tried to have their cake and eat it too.
I think Piastri will end up with McLaren. Yes, Alpine messed up and Piastri has a lot going for him, but he still has yet to prove himself in F1. I guess we will find out when the music stops to see who has a seat and where.
Piastri and his manager Weber have a large part of responsabilité. Alpine promised a seat to Oscar when it will be available, and a backup solution for 2023 with Williams. When Alonso made his decision official, they contacted Oscar and his manager, but none of them answered or returned phone calls. Alpine management guessing he was negotiating with a different team took the initiative to make an official announcement to make the situation clear.
@@frankavrom869 "to make the situation clear" a panic press release is not the way to make a statement. It's a way to get yourself burned. Piastri is in his rights to try and secure a grid spot as fast as possible when Alpine wasn't really trying to speed his chances up.
@@porlke Well, he may be in his right, but Alpine invested on him for years, and gave him a seat in for 2023 with either Alpine or Williams. Weber, his manager won F1 race, thanks to Renault engine, at least you can say loyalty is not their thing.
I hope for Oscar he already sign a contract with an other team, band he will dominate 2023 season, because his attitude will make him toxic, and I doubt he will have a long carrer in F1 if he continues to look everybody down. So, Next year, if he races for McLaren and can't go along with Lando and outperform him, he will be in trouble.
Piastri will go to Ferrari. To replace Binotto.....
Legend has it that Piastri is also the worlds most tactical UNO player. 😏
LOL!!! This is by far the funniest comment!
A lot of this seems to be heavy speculation. McLaren nor Williams hasn’t said anything about this IIRC.
Yup we only can wait and see...
Williams did sign on albon confirmed
Alonso has driven for all engine manufacturers that are on grid today
Great observation Harshad!
Great analysis on the current situation! Alpine really messed this one up!
Yeah they definitely did
Yuppppp
Thank you
What is the mess up? They can hire any driver. There is no scarcity of drivers in the grid
Spot on analysis! Renault has ALWAYS been arrogant in it's dealings in F1. I seem to recall Cyril Abiteboul having a hearty laugh at Christian Horner's expense on Drive to Survive because Red Bull's engine contract was up AND...Cyril the Peacock just stole Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull when in fact? Being rid of both Renault and Danny Ric were the best things that could have happened to Red Bull in the long run. They would NOT be winning today if those two things never changed because rivalries work best when EVERYONE's on a different side about everything and I love it when Renault fails! 🤣
Especially with Renault!
Appreciate the comment man! Yeah Renault has just seem to mess up yet again.
Why wouldn’t they work with Danny Ric
Yeah but horner had been talking mad junk about Renault too so it was kind of to be expected. Cyril seemed to run the team well. Not so sure about now.
You’re braindead to say Danny shouldn’t have been there. He won races with them
Otmar really thought that he can use Alonso as a seat warmer, happy Alonso left and that they lost both drivers, loved Alpine last year, since he joined the vibe in the team went downhill
Yeah it’s really unfortunate to see it this way. I guess maybe Danny is now forced to Alpine if Pastri is to McLaren!
You know we really don’t need the whole recap. We have all heard this story about 100 times over the past two days. We just want and new information. Not a rehash about Seb announcing his retirement. I know the CZcams algorithm works better with an 8min video but come on
Exactly. The “real reason” is just a rehash of all the rumors flying around the last 3 days
I’m gonna wait until I get more information on the contract to form an opinion because it could turn out that Oscar doesn’t have a leg to stand on or maybe everyone is correct in assuming that the deadline expired and Oscar is free to join whoever he pleases. We just don’t know yet. If he’s under contract and his management attempted to pull a fast one then I think he’s burning bridges far too early in his career and making a mistake. I wouldn’t want to be like Fernando and make countless enemies leaving everywhere I go in burning ruins.
Good points! Peter Windsor was the first to go public with the contract expiration; given his track record, I'd be inclined to believe him. That said, after Alpine invested time and money in Piastri, he should've kept quiet and given Alpine the benefit of the doubt; he should've quietly handled things behind the scenes, and he should've driven for them. After all, he has yet to turn a lap in anger in a F1 race. If it had been me, I'd have handled things quietly, and driven with the team that had helped me get to F1. Then, after I'd established myself, only then would I have considered moving on.
The problem with all rookies trying to reach the top level of their sport is that they have to prove that they belong there, whereas the established stars have to prove that they do not. See the difference? Oscar Piastri, brilliant as he's been in the junior categories, still has to prove that he belongs on the F1 grid. Hence, he should've taken the sure seat and driven with Alpine.
@@markymarknj
I think Ricciardo has proven he is a poor match at McLaren, so.....
@@markymarknj I think Alpine should have confirmed with Oscar and his management before making an announcement like that. Respect goes both ways. Alpine knew what they were doing and knew the rumours about Oscar and McLaren. It was a power play to try and keep Oscar.
Thanks for your comment! Yup we really have to see the contract for more detailed information.
@@markymarknj Very true! He sure is F3 and F2 Champion but that still cant be said for F1 as he's yet to prove that
Vettel made the vacation news cycle great for everyone.
Lol he sure did
Nah the reason is, he dont want to be side to side with ocon, its a broken line up
Yeah totally! It’s a shame
Thanks for breaking down the drama going on right now
Most welcome 💯
An alternative view, he to replace Tusnoda become part of Red Bull, with a view to replacing Cheko in 24
Good idea! Will Checo then retire or go to a other team?
@@gpcentral I don’t think Checo would want to retire, but honestly we really cannot tell yet, so much could happen in those few years.
I think Piastri is going to Williams to then end up at Mercedes in a couple years when Lewis retires. Then they would have two young talented drivers to carry them a while.
That is a possible scenario!
Great video on the current drama with Piastri!
Appreciate the comments!
Nothing new. And no reveal.
What else do you think we could have included? :)
@@gpcentral Your question wasn't about the criticism. My critique comes under the rubric of honesty in advertising. But good on you for responding
Alpine should have signed Piastri and Alonso as 2022 driver line up, A rising Star vs average Ocon should have been easy decission
Facts there buddy 💯
Yep. Ocon is a snake anyway. You help him gain his 1st victory. Net year on the same track he blocks you like you are his main rival. Dude is nuts.
i kind of want to see the biggest plot twist of them all... piastri also signing for aston. man would that be hilarious
Ultimate szafnauer L
🤣🤣🤣😂👊👊💪
LOLLLLL Fire Stroll?
PDR I think is a little off base here. He didn’t say he didn’t want to drive for Alpine. He didn’t reject them that we know of. If they did not engage him before any deadlines that released him to speak to other teams, it would make sense Oscar secure a seat . It wouldn’t take long either . He’s rapid and teams want him. But that statement was very purposeful and likely influenced by a lawyer. notice he made two references to the fact that he’s not driving for alpine in 2023. If he was trying to say he was rebuffing them, he wouldn’t need to be so overly literal about the season. It does leave the door open. And there’s a scenario where alpine maybe was too slow. The guy just sat out an entire year. Could we blame him for being worried if he felt alpine hadn’t been intentional with him? So when the Alonso news occurred, it likely surprised even Oscar.
> I will not be driving for Alpine in 2023
Doesnt get more direct than that
I mean you are right, maybe he will drive for Alpine in 2025
@@kama2106 that’s how a lawyer would tell you to phrase it precisely. It can be contractually true and not negative at the same time. “Direct” doesn’t mean rude. It means there’s no room to interpret. If you have a contract, it means you’re ineligible for one in 2023. All that statement says is for the 2023 season, he will not be at alpine. He had to be clear for the record as alpine stated on the record they signed him. We don’t know what we don’t know but for whatever reason alpine put him in a position to make it clear they didn’t fulfill their extension obligations in his interpretation.
@@CYMotorsport wow a 150K+ channel commenting on our videos. Appreciate you and your thoughts 🙏🏻😇
Nando luck will strike again and Alpine will make great car next season
Where do you think Piastri will go tho?
100% should go to Williams and wait for the merc seat
That’s would be a great strategy!
Alpine fked it big time. Piastri is clearly a future superstar in F1 and he should have a got a seat this season. Good on him. Got to look out for what's best for his future and I don't think Alpine is it.
Yeah true! He’s just taking care of his on butt.
You're getting ahead of yourself stating piastri is a future superstar. There have been many drivers that have fallen short with the same resume piasti has. He needs to prove himself and get a top tier car. Mclaren if not a front runner at the moment and it seems they are far from it. To even have a chance piastri would beed to be In a mercedes , ferrari or red bull.
@@nando03012009 3 championships in 3 years is hardly a slouch. F1 we all know is a team sport and Alpine is not exactly the best to be on as a rookie. You have seen how good former F2 champions have done when they have gone to good teams. He has proven himself to be a capable driver under pressure and they should have given him a seat this year if they really wanted to keep him. Mclaren might not be the best in F1 at the moment but being in the middle of the pack looks a lot better then at the bottom.
offering ocon a advanced contract was mistake
Can’t agree more
Crazy how Alpine were struggling to choose out of Alonso and Piastri at the start of the 2022 season, and now they won’t have a choice of either.
Facts there!!!!
Alpine's HR is what it is, not making 10 minutes for Alonso, assuming Piastri will wait indefinably without exercising the option well before value date, not to mention the mystery about Abiteboul 'removal'.
Yeah they definitely took him for granted
imagine, if red bull jumps in for a seat in Alphatauri and a future seat for red bull 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
That would be really epic to see!!!
Sad to see Checo leave tho
Imagine telling a fan in 2012 one day Alonso will replace Vettel at Force India 🤯
🤣🤣🤣 can’t imagine that

getting of on the wrong foot? his entry, start and responses are not wel handled for sure!
Seems like it
I think Oscar will be in McLaren at the end of August... Michael Andretti only got 13 races in 1993 for McLaren
True true! Let’s see!
Is that a TTS voice? Because some pronunciations and emphasises on words are quiet odd.
It’s a voice over artist on our team :)
Imagine if red bull had done this with verstappen and he went to Mercedes or Ferrari
The whole reason Verstappen signed with Red Bull is because he was guaranteed a seat for 2015 at Toro Rosso. Other teams (like Mercedes and Ferrari) were interested too, but they couldn't/wouldn't guarantee a seat. So he went with Red Bull. Jos was determined not to get his son into a situation like the one Piastri is in now.
It would be a huge joke for sure
Honestly he could be playing the long game here. He could be going to williams to eventually replace hamilton when he retires
Meaning they sack Latifi? Hmmmm
the key here in the alpine stetment is 'has been promoted' instead of 'has signed' xd
I think you have a very interesting point there. None of us know what was in Piastri's original contract with Alpine, but Alpine does and they obviously think they don't need a new contract. They've also said that they are convinced that legally they are in their right..
🤣
It will be a shocker if he goes to Mercedes after Lewis quietly retires 😁
Yeah would be a huge change up to things!
Lewis status is too big to quietly retire
Lewis has no life outside F1 he will drive another 10 years
@@geert574 😂😂
This is going to be more rediculous if redbull was the one to offer a seat and sack checo
@kelly lu Not a chance. Red Bull just signed Checo for two years. Checo is a proven race winner and team player. No chance, in my opinion, Red Bull would go for Piastri. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up at Alpha Tauri. Yuki and Pierre are not really impressing anyone currently.
@@drews5569 God bless red bull for re-signing checo

Absolutely 🤣
Alonso is a Gigachad
🤣
The question needs to be answered by Pistori's manager
Yup! Definitely have to hear what Webber has to say
The thing that blows my mind about this is... Alpine think they are in the right, they have a contract, and are going to fight it if necessary. Even if that is true, why would you force a driver to drive for your team when they've publicly stated they don't want to drive for you? Nobody benefits from that situation.
Getting replays of Button in 2004/2005 when he was entangled in a contract row between BAR and Williams....
Yeah very true! It seems like there’s some speculation now that Piastri signed to McLaren. Question is where is Danny going now?
@@gpcentral Who knows? Maybe nowhere. It's possible Oscar will take Latifi's seat at Williams, on the basis that he'll take over from Hamilton if he retires after next season.

Silly season indeed.
Piastri to replace Perez? Helmut has done worse...
Helmut is a terrible person. He is setting a toxic ambiance at RB and TR. He basically put Gasly for years in a dead end, and now it will be Yuki.
@@frankavrom869 dead end… I mean. He’s still in F1, at the end that’s all he really wants, right? To race in F1? Yes a top tier car would be nice but it’s better than not racing, or being unsure of a spot next year imo.
Would be crazy to see this happening
If Piastri is going to McLaren, since he's only won championships with the car of the Alpine, will he struggle like Daniel Ricciardo did regarding driving style with his future McLaren?
I hope Danny goes back to Alpine because I don't want to see him stay in the back for another year struggling with his McLaren due to the incompatible driving style issues. Want to see him being happy and satisfied with the car and his performance again.
Yup very true Joe! Thanks for the comment
I would not be surprised if Piastri arrives at …. Red Bull 😊
Wow that’s would be crazy to see! Meaning he goes to AT first?
All of that sound like a trick from a ferrari strategist.
Definitely mine games then
Well,it's always Ocon.Always.
🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if all this back fires on him and he doesn't get a seat until 2024.
This could be a possibility, because he may scare his teammates with his arrogance. If he goes to McLaren, I can't imagine how it will go with Lando, knowing Lando never got along with a guy like Daniel.
Seems like he has already signed to McLaren! Let’s wait for the official news!
Alonso left because he was only offered a one-year contract and he wants to stay for at least another 3 or 4 years, plus he was offered a lower salary than Ocon's🤣🤣. At Aston Martin, he has multi annual contracts and more money. Alpine should have signed Piastri and Alonso, Ocon is and was just a mediocre driver
Very true! Where do you think Ocon should go then?
@@gpcentral honestly I’d like to see him out of the sport. Don’t like him as a driver, don’t like him as a person. There’s much more talented people on and off the grid that deserve his spot more than he does.

One could say he’s arrogant, another could be him just trying to protect his future
Alonso's choice makes no sense to me.
I guess he was just looking for more security
Piastri is over hyped. He'll be an average/low tier driver when he eventually hops in F1. Probably just a little better than Mick Schumacher.
People act as if winning lower categories is a guarantee for him being a very good driver in F1 if compared to the others. It's not. There are plenty of drivers who've won junior categories and when arrived in F1 were just average.
There are not many drivers who have won F2 (or GP2 earlier) in their rookie season and turned out to be average. If I remember correctly Rosberg, Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Russell and Leclerc were able to do it so far (and Piastri), and Hulk is the only one out of them who didn't have a spectacular F1 career.
@@jozseftarsoly1239 I don't think winning during 1st season in any competition is relevant by itself. It doesn't matter at all since most of the people there (lower championships) don't have waaay more or less experience than a newcomer does.
Lower category championships are filled with young athletes, there's not like there are veterans of F2.
What matters more is the car you drive and especially your opponents. Because winning a championship can be easy or hard depending on your opponents.
And let's be serious now, in 2021 season it's not like F2 was packed with talented drivers. At least that's my honest opinion about it.
His win could have happened in 1st season, or 2nd season or 3rd one. I think it's not like there's so much difference.
Overhyped? You didn’t watch F3 and F2.
Mick is doing good in that trash of a car. If youre a hater just say that. Pretty idiotic to judge a guy after he has driven 0 races while winning younger categories on first try.
@@revyrain Mazepin had nothing to do with Mick performance. Mazepin was trash, Mick has been average/low tier until this moment.
I can't consider him anything more since even in his 2nd season he's struggling to finish races without getting involved in crashes. And moreover he's being consistently beaten by Magnussen, which surely is not a phenomenal driver among the best in the paddock. And he also came from a break from F1.
To me this kind of things are enough to put Mick in that category.
Maybe one day he'll eventually perform better and more consistently. I was hyped for him this season cause it was his 2nd one and every driver had to adapt to a new car. I thought he could prove his talent at least in some races and get some very good results which shouldn't be possible in his car. As many good drivers tend to do, in some races. Nothing like that happened.. until now. Let's see how things evolve for him.
I see you're a gambling man.
Basing a good portion of your video off what Paul di Resta said is, to say the least, a risky move 🙃😆.

Could be very possible
But Piastri did sign a contract with Alpine for the 2023 season and that's why they are taking him to the high court and they will win. Alpine have done nothing wrong here but to train a driver that can't be trusted. I am very surprised that Mark Webber is allowing him to do this, I thought higher of him. Oh well the courts will sort it out.
Piastri should have replaced ocon. Why would he want to be treated as a number 2. But McLaren isn't much better
Yeah! So Alpine should fire Ocon then? But it seems Piastri already said “he won’t drive for them” tho.
@@gpcentral I meant before. Kept alonso and signed piastri. Instead of keeping ocon at the expense of both drivers
@@titancheat true true 👍
Didn’t answer the question
Sure did based on the current facts
Ricciardo to Apline
Piastri to Mclaren
That would be a crazy swap we all want to see!
Menager Webber? 2024 Piastri in RedlBull?????
Only time can tell 😂
Very cocky move for Piastri, the Alpines are easily outpacing the McLarens as much as Lando will outpace any rookie. The grid is full of past F2 winners (Mick, Charles, George, Pierre, Lewis) plus some who didn't do much (Pastor, Nico, Palmer, Grosjean, De Vries, Vandoorne). Once we all find out he is not the next coming of Senna, he will be the rookie that ripped up a contract and good luck finding another seat.
Very possible there if he does not deliver
Alonso slower than Ocon???
Yes, when was the last time Fernando won a F1 race? 9 years ago?
About half a second Alonso is faster in all races
🤣🤣🤣
I think Piastri deserve a chance.
Look at Stroll, Xhou, Yuki...?
They're keeping good young drivers out of F1.
Not the old Maestros!
Yukon Tsunoda has been getting better and better each race, he finished Abu Dhabi last season in 4th which is incredible for a rookie and in that car, the only reason his performance this season has been stunted is because AT decided they didn’t feel like making a car worthy of the midfield, he’s got so much more time go grow and AT us for RedBull juniors, it’s not their job to take on another teams junior. Zhou is in his first season in a car that was quite unreliable, and when it hasn’t had a mechanical failure he’s always done well bar a few upsets, but he’s a rookie, just like every driver was once, not every driver has to do what Hamilton did in their debut ti be worthy of a drive. The rookies aren’t keeping people like Piastri out, and let’s not forget where Yuki finished in the F2 standings, its alpines failure to get him into the team instead of Ocon or Alonso, not the drivers for teams not associated with Renault/Alpine.
Seems like he has already signed to McLaren! Let’s wait for the official news!
Clickbait title.
Thanks for dropping by
The boys Signed for Maclaren Did not tell Alpine. But he use they money to learn how to drive.Karma is coming for him big time
Maybe he’s just watching out for himself you know
@@gpcentralhe Should have told them instead of making them look like fools. Hopefully you know how to drive credibility is Gone no one will trust him
TBH I think Piastri is going to ALPHA TAURI.
but this is just what I think.
Some news speculating that Piastri signed to McLaren! Let’s wait for official news!
@@gpcentral Can McLaren fire Ricciardo even though he is in contract till the end of 2023?
@@rexmarion they sure can with a buyout
@@gpcentral looks like it's confirmed.
Ocon is a terribel CO-driver, Driver itself and Person , that was all clear YEARS ago , driving Verstappen off in Brazil ( not CO-driver, just Bad driving )
Yeah can’t agree more with this 😅
Alonso, as always, is too self-centered and, I doubt he will be willing to race in any team. I don't think that Scroll will benefit from Fernando's presence. Alonso's only goal is to win, not the team.
