Imagine how desperate Alpine must have been to be willing to resort to such a low and risky tactic. Imagine how bad they must be that Alonso jumped ship immediately, and that Piastri is comfortable giving them a categorical no.
Its not what happened. Alpine had an option to sign Piastri which i believe expired same day as Alonso announced AM deal. Its likely they simply forgot to exercise that option in time to lock him in but were unaware of it. Either way looks terrible.
piastri said that cuz he signed already with other team

@@PozzaPizz Pozza Pizz i think this driver transfer gonna last very long....
The dark reality is that there is a huge problem at Renault/Alpine which has lost Ricciardo, Prost and Alonso. Once they got a good look inside, they found the exit door.

@@hypernovamkvi715 yeah, have to wonder what’s going on in there. Like why is Alonso so happy to go full scorched earth on Alpine, when it was with Renault/Alpine that he saw the most success? Must be something wrong, even above Otmar (since this problem pre-dates him)

Some People didn’t believe it was from today. Said it’s an old pict….hence video of Oviedo with date proving exactly where he was.

Then this new guy turns up and unsettles the team so he leaves and shows what he can do at a shit house Renault team before heading to McLaren and picking up their first win in years and then deliberately under performing so that when vettel retired and Alonso took his spot he could entice piastri to McLaren get brought out of his contract, and then convince Pierre to go to Alpine and he would then sign as the number 1 driver with alpha tauri so that when checo continued to under perform and red bull decides to demote him to the junior team he can get the call up to red bull and join a team to beat a then multiple world champion in the same machinery. Totally makes sense that Alpine offers Fernando a 1 year deal for whatever sum of money...then Aston offers him a multi-year deal with more money, so Fernando jumps ship. However, this is all timed far too well for it to be merely coincidence. Alpine did something to piss of the most conniving driver, possibly of all time, to make him not only leave so abruptly, but also make sure their star young talent also won't be filling his old seat. There are two things Fernando is brilliant at...and driving is the other one.

@@taz8808 don't really know, Webber was happy to leave F1, and Red Bull in particular, when he went in Porsche WEC.
So I don't think it's personally against Ricciardo.
Meme lord Alonso in cahoots with Webber orchestrating the best move for Piastri’s contract to expire on July 31st when Alonso announced his move to Aston Martin. Boom Mclaren deal. The fallout will be fascinating to watch, this is bitter sweet from this Aussies perspective.
Danny Ric to Alpine or Indycar?
I can't see DR at Alpine and I think he's done his dash with Mclaren racing in general (they don't want him) might be that DR is done in F1.
As an American, bring some danny ricc to IndyCar! Never once thought about going to an indy race but he might just convince me to buy a ticket
@@erikostby2232 indy is really fun live u should go to a race
Or Williams if he's that keen to stay in F1
Indycar is special live because it just hasn't blown up so it's still affordable and you get to meet the drivers it's really cool so Ricciardo would be immensely popular with the burgeoning American F1 fanbase
So in summary:
- Alonso was gonna extend his Alpine contract, meaning Oscar can safely be loaned out and brought in when Alonso’s contract expires.
- Vettel retires, Alonso BLINDSIDES Alpine and jumps ship for a better deal.
- Alpine announce Piastri, but Alpine cant fall back on Piastri coz a deal has been made elsewhere
- Piastri says nah soz not racing for ya 🤪
Also, Alonso (perhaps deliberately) holds off on his signing announcement until the escape clause kicks in on Piastri's contract.
So as far as I am aware the sticking point with Alonso is that Alpine would only give him one year contract and he wanted multi year deal.
Alpine wouldn’t offer it and then when Vettel dropped the retirement news Alonso went over and asked them and Aston said yes to a multi year deal.
Alonso hadn’t actually been planning on switching prior to Vettel retiring.
With Oscar, I don’t know if this is 100% true or not, but apparently Alpine had an option to retain him but the option expired on the 31st. Alpine didn’t exercise the option prior to the deadline… aka they forgot or someone dropped the ball and that let Oscar out of the contract.
I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough if that is factual or not. But it is definitely plausible and looks really bad on Alpine.
It also makes a hell of a lot of sense why they would risk this whole fiasco to try and put public pressure on Oscar to just accept driving for Alpine.
What is even crazier is that he has apparently almost certainly come to a deal with Mclaren.
And that crazy tweet that Marcus Ericsson put out with all the driver changes everyone said was crazy might actually play out! Smh
Sounds like Fernando and Oscar are good mates. Better mates than they are with their own team, in fact. I wonder if they (el) planned this together, to screw over Alpine as much as possible.
@@WhiskyCanuck Would certainly be a move that Alonso would do (no judgement here)
Mark Webber (OP's manager) and Alonso are known buds, so have those two executed well timed chess moves behind the scenes?
I can’t believe Alpine had absolutely no idea Alonso would leave them. They knew he wanted a multi year contract but they only offered him one year yet he was not given a proper contract to sign and agree to. I think Alpine wanted Piastri not Alonso from the beginning, as they were so quick to announce him as their next driver (or so they thought). @@leonardoluc6362 the 1 year deals start coming when they want to get rid of you, but can't find a reason... hoping that you'll find something else and they won't have to sack you.
If they wanted Piastri from the beginning then they wouldn't wait for his contract to end to tell him he is promoted to the F1 seat. I don't think Piastri left Alpine because he thought they weren't good or he had better offer elsewhere but because they didn't take his offer on time...
I don't know. With all the fake sponsors, Ferrari etc, this sport has seemed nothing but a circus show for rich people to me for a long time.
This also raised a lot of questions as to what's going on behind the scenes at Alpine. Because Alonso suddenly jumped ship with little to no warning and his behaviour on the radio during the Hungarian Grand Prix also makes it seem as if a rift was emerging between the two parties. This whole situation has blown from a storm in a teacup, to a category 5 typhoon.
That’s what Alonso does as history shows.
I think it's simply that he'd rather drive at the back of the midfield with Aston for 2+ years than drive at the front of the midfield with alpine for 1
Prost warned us before preseason that Alpine was a disaster class after letting go Marcin Budkowski to leave with immediate effect.
Prost and Alonso saw this coming.

For me it was possibly one of two reasons - (1) with Alonso leaving they just assumed Oscar would want to race for them, but got a bit ahead of themselves.
(2) they were a little concerned that Oscar would race for another team to start his F1 career, so they announced it with the intention of subtly pressuring him into driving for them - with him being too polite/uncertain about correcting/criticising his primary team so publicly.
Thought pretty much the same.
I just think that Alo jumping ship was somehow in motion time before all of this(even if it was covered pretty well by both parts) and the Ocon maneuvres in Hungary were team orders-like to have clear a seat for Piastri.
I'm honestly still wondering why Piastri ditched specifically them when he's formally Alpine's local product, it seems too personal to being just a matter of a seat elsewhere.
And here many are saying that, regardless of the car, Alpine is not a good team to run for...
Without a doubt it's #2
This has to be one of the biggest fallouts made by drivers in all of F1 history
Alonso and Oscar just bamboozled the whole Alpine team and it all begun because alpine didn't want to sign a multi year contract with Alonso and they made the (in my opinion) HORRIBLE decision to tie ocon with a rope to one seat until Iirc 2024

I mean I don't think Daniel has much of a choice... McLaren clearly don't want Ricciardo if they tapped up Piastri to drive for them. And there is no other seat available except for the one that 2 other drivers didn't want.
Or maybe Danny Ric gonna race for McLaren Formula E next year
Why Mclaren need another young driver if they have their cornerstone,in Norris.
Mainly,F1 teams have young and more older drivers.
@@victorvic4659 that's when the older driver is actually useful to the team in some way
@@victorvic4659 because Ricciardo has stunk up the place and they will take any driver with a pedigree to back up Lando. I mean 19 pts from Ricciardo is embarrassing for what they are paying him.
I think what happened is that Alonso changing team caught everyone off guard. Alpine then thought “oh well we still have piastri” and they probably even made initial call to piastri saying he can have Alonsos old seat. But mean while mclaren realized they have to make decisions about piastri if they want him to replace ricciardo. So mclaren offers piastri a contract and he signs it. Alpine probably hears there is some talk between piastri and mclaren so they want to lock him in alonsos seat. And they wanted to force mclaren to back off so they announced piastri to alonsos seat
Alternate more tinfoily theory would be that alpine was gonna sign piastri next year anyway but they wanted to wait for later in the season to announce. This of course wouldn’t be good for alonso so after the vettel announcement he decided to make moves and also letting mclaren know what was gonna happen so that it would screw over alpine as much as possible
I don't think his going to McLaren. Why would Mclaren give that seat to Oscar when Zak's been promising that seat to have of the american continent IMO his going to AT with the promise of Checo seat for 25 or before if they under/overperfome. RB still looking for DR replacement wouldn't it be ironic if that was an Alpine young talent same team how stole the DR?
It is almost exactly like the Alex Palou situation in Indycar. I also think it is linked to it because both situations seem to involve Zak Brown and McLaren.
First they lose Fernando and then Oscar, great work by Alpine
I just hope when its all said and done that Oscar isnt affected by all the drama. Dude doesnt deserve this shit!
@Valentin this comment is soo stupid. if you didn't sign a contract you're not mandated to join them. its that simple. who cares if the team has "raised" you from the beginning. it's on the fine print!!
@Valentin F1 is cutthroat, drivers with talent should always look for the top teams.
He owes them nothing but thanks, that's all.
Fernando had to know something. Maybe Oscar talks to him a lot more than we know or maybe he just texted him to ask what he thought. Either way that timing is more than coincidental and seems like a direct response to Oscar’s tweet. One way or another, something we do know is that both of them are fed up with Alpine.
Alonso is such a troll i love him, i hope he stays in the sport for another 10 years honestly
I think with Alonso leaving Apline forgot the date had gone by with taking the option on Piastri, and they hoped giving him the seat would make him not pull them up on that missed contract. But its been thrown back at them. I guess Weber was looking at the 1st Aug date coming and with nothing happening with Alpine and he started to chat to Zak Brown for Piastri. Unfortunately this means Danny is out.
It's a good lesson for Alpine to secure their choices on time instead of being arrogantly confident
Alpine: Mahaveer Raghunathan will be driving for us in 2023!
Him: Nah thanks, I'm fine.
Imagine if in all of this chaos, The ice man comes back. Now, that would be AWESOME
I think it wasn’t a coincidence that Alonso made the announcement about his move exactly on 1st of August 😅 1 day after Piastri’s contract with Alpine expired
Imagine Ricciardo finding out he doesn’t have a seat next year through Piastri’s tweet
Ferrari: On track clowns
Alpine: Online clowns
This is hilarious. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Oscar's contract finished Jully 31st. Alonso announcing Aston Martin's seat August 1st. This rookie Alonso is the cheekiest driver I've seen...
This was years in the making. Giving ocon the long contract messed everything up. The whole thing is poorly managed from top to bottom.
Ocon should be the one to go. Piastri could have learned so much more from Alonso (not saying lando is bad but def not as experienced as Alonso) and maybe he will become the next WDC for Alpine. Now everything falls apart.
@@oliverxie9559 Piastri has been racing Karts with Alonso for 2 years now and it is clear as day he has absolute respect for him.
@@oliverxie9559 completely agree! Why give a driver backed by Mercedes a long contract while the driver that actually won a title in a Renault (albeit a long time ago) the short contracts. They should have looked to find a way for Oscar Piastri to learn from one of the greatest ever. Charles had Kimi and seb to sit next to George has hamilton to learn from Lando is paired up with ricciardo max has Sergio. The best teams always seem to have one young driver and one with the experience. And the move to secure ocon will continue to bite them in the ass.
Piastri just burnt a bridge with Alpine before he has even entered Formula 1 and there is no guarantee that he would succeed in McLaren even if he were to join them. And, if he doesn’t perform well in future, he would be under severe criticism. Yes, and I have to say that Alpine also did it dirty by announcing without talking about it with Piastri. But what I feel is that he should’ve formulated the tweet in a better manner like “we haven’t reached an agreement” instead of “I wouldn’t be driving for Alpine”.
What if he already has an other contract, an long term prospectives. Of course there is no guarantee at Mclaren in the long term that's why I don't think his going to McLaren. And why would Mclaren give that seat to Oscar when Zak's been promising that seat to have of the american continent IMO his going to AT with the promise of Checo seat for 25 or before if they under/overperfome. RB still looking for DR replacement wouldn't it be ironic if that was an Alpine young talent same team how stole the DR? And if it doesn't work with RB Bc Oscar & max don't have the same driving style he can see at that time (probably at 26-27, how knows what it will look like)
@@marie-emiliewulleart6521 yep, things are not yet clear. This summer break is going to be fun!! 🎉
There is no guarantee he succeed in Alpine either....Both are stepup for his career....He kinda upset with alpine indecision between him and Alonso....
This is the moment we look back 10 years later in a top10 driver signing disaster video.
I heard something about an option to sign Piastri that alpine forgot to exercise.
Thank you for bringing up Fernando‘s thumbs up, that’s hilarious and I would never have seen that.
Alpine masterplan. We take otmar and Aston takes Fernando. 😂😂😂
After alpine has supported Piastri for the last couple of years, this mess is going to have BIG consequences on young driver contracts. Driver academies are now going to want to lock their drivers into long term contracts even if no drive in f1 is available, leaving some young drivers with no where to go!
the option was 31st July but some how they missed that date to lock him in again . once the date is passed they have no option legally so it's their utter fault. you leave a guy hanging the date passes you announce it like it's forgone conclusion, talk about incompetent or arrogant.
People reacting to Ferrari in Hungry. “How can a team be so incompetent?” Alpine, “Hold my beer.” 😂
Alternatively, what could also have happened is this-
We know that most driver negotiations are done behind closed doors, and all we get to know is rumors.
Even though there might have been some sort of a verbal agreement between Alpine and Oscar, and Oscar might have made it known to them that he wants a full-seasom drive with them next season (without signing anything yet), he was also in talks with McLaren and signed something with them instead without yet informing Alpine. As soon as Fernando jumped ship, Alpine announced Oscar because they were under the impression that he wanted to drive for them.
Nando and Oscar did a bit of epic sinchronised swimming right there. I've heared that the execs at Renault/Alpine are pretty incompetent and very pretentious so they got "Nandoscar-ed" 😂
My theory: Ferrari paid Alpine 50 million $ transfer for being the official clowns of the grid for the rest of the season.
Who would have guessed that Piastri would be bigger news than both Vettel retiring, and Alonso's shock switch?
LMAO !!!! Well done, Fernando ! 🤣😂
This was absolutely classless from Alpine. I can imagine how it would look to teams talking with Oscar and that could've really complicated things for him. I would've been irate.
... I'm guessing that Alonso seriously did not appreciate Ocon's defense in Hungry or frankly any of Ocon's defenses. Hungry's defense was seriously unprofessional to be polite.
ocon defends like lion only when alonso is behind XD, rest he let them pass!!!
I’ve been waiting for this video all day
It's funny that this isn't even the first time this month something like this has happened. The same thing happened with Alex Palou at Chip Ganassi in IndyCar.
