It's considered normal for many parents to be violent in my country too. And it's really sad how these parents think that hitting their child is fine for "disciplinary purposes". Many parents literally use stuff like slippers, combs, spatulas used for cooking etc. One of my friend has a habit of biting his nails whenever he is nervous and his Mom burned his hand with a hot steel spatula (something commonly used in my country to fry stuff) so that he stops it. And what happens? He stopped doing it in front of her. And it's considered so normal. And it's just plain wrong.

He will stop quick.

@@teofiloljubisavljevic9161 I'm sure many parents want only what is the best for their children, but that doesn't give them the right to hit their own kids. He suffers from anxiety and it's chewing the nails that help him cope up. I'm not saying that chewing nails is a very good habit, but what I'm tryna say is that instead of understanding the cause and reason of his anxiety or letting him see a therapist (which he wants to), hitting him to stop it, is stupid indeed.
I've had several bad habits throughout these years, and my parents help me find out the reason of those habits, and help me replace those bad habits with good ones which provide the same kind of satisfaction. And guess what, it works.
I did the same with him, and it helped him get over his nervous habit in a few months. So, yeah, hitting him surely didn't work, but sitting with him, finding the cause, replacing it and supporting him did the trick.

I've had books thrown at me, I've been hit with boards, slippers, high heels, brooms, any sort of cutlery or kitchen ware, belts, boots, pans. Basically anything my adoptive mom had in her hand the moment she got mad at me for mostly trivial reasons. I've been threatened to be hospitalized for meltdowns, sibling fights, or simple disagreements, she threatened to call the police on me when I was 11 because I ran to hide from her. She's threatened to call DHR/CPS and get me rehomed. She's kicked me out of the house. She's locked me out of the house. She let her older sons (who are in their mid to late 30s or 40s) do and say horrible shit to me and my brother (who were young at the time. One of them told me to kill myself when I was just barely 15)
