When Will The Halo Become Commonplace?

  • We see the Halo talked about a lot when it comes to Formula 1, but head protection has made its way in to other series as well.
In this video I hope to convey the point that head protection, and not just the Halo, is not just a passing trend, and is actually establishing itself in cars all across the open-wheel ladder.
Hopefully in the future more aesthetic safety devices are created, but for the time being, the Halo is the best we have that is currently being used in 2019.
This video is accurate up until June 2nd 2019.

A lot of people bitched about the aesthetics (and perhaps there will be better designs in the future) but the added safety value proposition was just a no brainer. Furthermore, it may just be me, but I had to go back and watch Super Formula and Formula W series just to check that they do indeed have halos- It does not even register as something apart from the car that sticks out.
And, finally, thank you for the great content. I learned about the other formula series and their formats thanks to this channel. Cheers.

Anyone against the halo or aero screen just cares about aesthetics and not about the human being driving the car.

What do you think about the decision to race in Macau with the new (and so much quicker) F3 cars?

    • @JacobBosley
      @JacobBosley  Před 5 lety +2

Personally I thought it made better sense for them to let the Regional F3 cars race at Macau, because then you can get teams from across multiple series (and the globe) taking part like how it used to be.
But at the end of the day the FIA will want their 'Premium' series racing at the Macau GP. I just hope that the new cars aren't so much more faster compared to last year that it ends up causing worse accidents.
It's also pretty obvious that they dropped Abu Dhabi from the FIA F3 calendar so that the cars can be shipped to Macau too, so it's been in the works for a while now.

The now missing comparison between the diffrent F3 series is a good point.
And I do not like F2 and F3 because it is impossible to find the full races. Hopefully they will decide to livestream it for free in the future.
And no serious accidents is a thing that I hope for, too. I was so happy that Sophia Flörsch recovered so quickly, especially because I saw her live on track in F4 in the years before.
Unfortunately I heard no information about the injured marshalls.
I think that the safety of the marshalls in general is the next step to improve on all tracks, after the safety of the drivers is on a very high level today.
And of course thank you for your quick and interessting answer :)

I found the halo, a fine addition, but, democracy says ppl dont like it so, alternatives may take over. Its like the platypus nose from 2012-2013 and the engine sound of this era. Most fans dont like changes that much ^^

I hope IndyCar switch to the Halo because that Aero screen makes the cars look really ugly! I don't like the Halo either but at least it still makes the car look like an Open Wheel car and not a prototype like the other.
