Dave treated his kids well because it fed into his ego, not because he cared or was a good father. He didn't discipline them or teach them, he spoiled them, because it fed his ego to be a "great dad". The kids are way better off without him.

You guys are a bit too harsh. Dave is a very principled man who does keep to his ideals of a republic and even in the face of losing, just walks away from it all instead of calling the election forfeit (unless glitch).

The very best way to expend 32 caliber rounds. You don't want to use ammunition in weak guns in a game where wasteful use of resources is not recommended.

i have been using the linkin repeater . but mostly . i use the victory rifle . most of the time .
An early run to the PE bobblehead also provides this amazing rifle. At a point in the game where it can really shine. If you like to boost lockpick early = Bethesda ruins, then Dave.
I wonder if the reason the settlement stays small is that the rest of the family leave when power changes hands, because Dave apparently had a lot of siblings who just aren’t there.

Gotta love Fallout 3. You're on a quest to find your own father, but in the process, you can get mixed up in a situation where you have the option of taking away some other kids' father. That's some heavy stuff right there.
Also, I made it the Republic of Rosie when I went there. Because fuck Dave. For some reason though, even though I didn't clear out Old Olney, when I went there later, Dave was still sitting and moping in a corner, despite being surrounded by deathclaws. Maybe it's because I didn't follow him there.
This guy is the kind of guy that would actually change the wasteland, for better or worse it takes a person as crazy as this guy to do something in the kind of world he is in.

As someone who's never known my irl father but had to actually cut ties with a toxic mother I would say that Dave leaving them like that, whilst scarring for obvious reasons would actually be the best case scenario for the children considering that Dave rules like an Authoritarian brat.
It is one thing to treat your children well and that surely deserves some points of respect but what you teach them as a role figure is JUST as important, Rosie is in this regard a rolemodel they should be following and she can pull the children through while teaching them the real stuff maybe while she is in office she can have Shawna and Jessica help her do so.
It is Dave once again, what's the problem with their settlement, and problems need to go away, in this case literal.

I think Rosie is best for the large family and the "republic". Sure, the kids lose out on a father, but I genuinely think having Rosie leading them and parenting them without the toxicity dave had is better for the kids growing up. I mean, look at what Dave's attitude did to his son Bob - turned him into just as much - if not more - of a tyrant. Maybe if Rosie is a leader she can actually make something of that small community, perhaps it can grow into a reasonably decent settlement.
Anyone else catch that Dave's safe code was 1138? That's an Easter egg to Star Wars that in itself is an Easter egg to THX 1138 which was George Lucas's first movie.
