    I grew up in Hartshill and my parents got married in Mancetter church. I spent many happy childhood hours fishing with friends next to bridge 33 during the '80s and the sound of express trains racing down the nearby mainline takes me back! So glad it still looks (and feels) idyllic.

    I am not surprised that the cats sleep - lulled into it by the motion of the boat. I suspect they follow the sunny spot. Lovely to see then at the end. Now we know why it takes a moment for them to come out - they have to wake up!

    Hello from Denver, Colo9rado. (The 9 is silent) I enjoy your videos for the brief fantasy each one gives me of traveling quiet, navigable waters through contemporary and historic areas - sometimes simultaneously. I also enjoy the occasional UFO sighting, though, just between the two of us, I'm not convinced of their veracity.

    Or could it be Man-Chetter Phil? I'm not sure either, but we have somewhere here in Peterborough which is spelt the same and people do pronounce it Man-Chetter. Who knows! That second green boat was following MUCH too closely to the first! They could have been tied together! ;) The snake was a good size :) You're right, Atherstone looks lovely!

    There are snakes in the canals??? I would freak out if I saw that. Do they ever get on the boats? We have rattlesnakes where I live and they really scare me. Love the alpacas though.

      @NarrowboatJourneys  Před 5 lety +5

      Yes, boat normally pass on the right, but it's not a hard and fast rule. Just occasionally common sense will favour passing on the left. You should signal the other boat to let them know what you are doing though.

    Hello and good evening Phil, lovely video as always. As you said, a very pretty and picturesque part of the Cut. What's with the two boats at 5.20 ? Was the one being towed by the other ? at double speed it looked like a bit of canal rage about to kick off. Cat cam was a nice idea, sneaky peek at the feline side of the crew.

    It's pronounced 'Man-setter' :-) and it's where Boadicea was captured by the Romans, the ancient site of the Brits last stand. :-) Also, Atherstone is pronounced 'a' as in apple, 'the' as in 'the cat', and then 'stun'.
    'a-the-stun' :-) Hope this helps.

    • @interdec
      @interdec Před 5 lety +2

      The lapping water and engine noise doesn’t count. Perhaps some appropriate music would help. And what, for example, was that dredger/crane like boat you passed? Trying to be constructive here, but your reply came across as a bit irritated. Yeah, I know, I don’t have to watch, but I certainly would if there was a bit more interest.

    • @NarrowboatJourneys
      @NarrowboatJourneys  Před 5 lety +2

      Perhaps I should do as the other boat tubers do and cut out about 80 - 90% of the trip? I am seriously considering doing so. Showing edited "highlights" would certainly boost views but would give a distorted impression of the canals. The simple truth is that a lot of canal travel is not very interesting or exciting, but it usually is very relaxing. I don't know what the work boat was doing? I think it might have been cutting the reeds? I do try to please my viewers but it's impossible to please everybody. Some don't like it when I add music, some do etc.

    • @interdec
      @interdec Před 5 lety +1

      Well, I loved the imagery, but as any editor will tell you, video is 40% of the viewer experience, Audio 60%.

      @@NarrowboatJourneys you're at a big disadvantage by being solo.
      There's no banter and you are restricted in what shots you can take.
      Add some commentary like cruising the cut does,rather then just empty loo and rubbish bin here ,shops that way.
      Get off the boat and explore your surroundings, with a bit of history thrown in,and a visit to the pub.
      Vids are just to predictably now.
