FINDING OUT WHY MY LT4-SWAPPED '67 CHEVY C10 BROKE AND HOW I'M GETTING IT READY TO RACE FREIBURGER.

- Episode 238 of Mike Finnegan's Garage takes us back into the basement as I fix several things on my Chevy C10 to get it ready for an upcoming Roadkill episode. First off, during a pretty rowdy burnout session, I destroyed the clutch so that needs replacing. The question is why? We'll answer it with help from Geoff Gerko from Mantic Clutch USA. Mantic clutches are assembled right here in America and my new clutch still has twin discs and ceremetallic material, but this time we went with solid hubs instead of sprung hubs. And also, we are re-using my old flywheel because we didnt have the correct eight-bolt flyhweel for my LT4.

We are also going inspect the inside of the 6xd billet sequential gearbox. Mainly, we are doing this because I wanted to replace Sixth Gear with something that offers a lower cruising speed (numerically lower, but a higher gear ratio) for highway driving. Rick Lamber from RTS/6XD had the gearbox disassembled, re-geared, and put back together in about an hour. Want more information on this awesome transmission? Go here: 6xdgearbox.com

We need more clutch guy. Pure gold. Hire him for the channel
He definitely needs to be or have his own channel
Deffo gettin Bob Ross vibes
Dude for real!
The "stroke it for me a few times" was comedic gold!😂
He needs to be on radio with a voice like that!
He certainly put me in the mood...if you know what i mean!
First take...i didnt think he'd fit. But holy shit he makes some of the same exact jokes I do, this guy needs some air time!
Geoff is a riot, could've had a career in comedy.
Agree 👍
“I know we just met but stroke it a couple times for me!!!!” 😂
I was gonna say he has a voice for radio too
He definitely has a voice made for radio.
As you travel through life, you pick up people! Mike is building a team of people and companies that will be the envy of ALL!
“I know we just met, but STROKE it a couple times for me”
I don't understand how none of the guys laughed at that one... I must be a child still cause I lost it
Yep, and if you like the content, support the guys and gals that support him
I LOL'd at that too.Guess the rest couldn't hear it.
Dude is the Bob Ross of clutches
That puts it perfectly. I love listening to mellow dudes talk about their field of expertise.
That's the kind of guy you like to have for a co-worker. I had an older dude like him teaching me how to make hydraulic lines for our rock crushing plants. He was awesome. You'd hear him coming from the break room "and for my next magic trick....!" Lol. Buddy showed him a pic of his new gf and he said "wooooah check out that chunka stuff!". Just random funny shit all the time, actually made me look forward to working with him every day, learned soooo much in such a short period of time too from him.
It’s a happy little Burnt Sienna pressure plate.
“…happy little clutch fingers…”. -. “…just a little friction material, it’s OK…”
Happy burnt clutch with a touch of lovely smoke Grey for accent.😂😅
Clutch guy totally exploits his perfect radio voice, love it!
I was just about to comment on dudes voice and first thing I see is a comment about his voice! Lol Sounds like Weather Man turned Clutch guy!😂
Ok the clutch guy needs his own CZcams channel he's hilarious 😂 and he knows his clutches..
He has his own CZcams page . It’s mantic clutch . He is the North American rep.
Much appreciated man, we do have a bunch of videos at Mantic CLutch USA. Bob Ross of Clutches coming soon.
I could learn anything from the clutch guy. His voice and mannerisms are priceless .
Thinking the same thing...
You know you've made it when Dan Aykroyd dials in your clutch for you.
Both of those guys were so easy to listen to and they so good at what they do I actually learned a lot! And your C10 is such an amazing ride! I love it!
Good luck on your California trip, safe travels!
"I know we just met but Stroke it a couple of times for me"..hahaha Classic!!
That transmission is a gorgeous piece of machinery. The clutch is also really impressive. Geoff the clutch guy is a natural, he is so funny.
The amount of machining that goes into those transmissions is impressive
Clutch guy came straight from the local jazz radio. Perfect narrator voice.
Your clutch guy has the best radio voice.
I can picture him spinning hits on late night radio!!!
I spent two Summers working for a Clutch Reconditioning Company, we used to machine the flywheels flat again on a rotary table on a milling machine with a flat stone spinning like hell in the spindle. Never needed to take much off to make them work well enough.
20:00 this clutch guy sounds like he should be on the radio 😂😂
"I know we just met, but stroke it for a few times!" 😂😂😂😂 That cant be the first time he's used that line! Effin love it!
Impressive diplomacy by professionals that refuse to blame product failure on obvious abuse by host! Surround yourself with guys like this.
Soooo cool how he knew how and what to do to make it better.. Jeff is a real transmission specialist.. and The guy doing the clutch work seems to know a lot as well..This is one of my favorite videos.. when it gets technical and you could actually learn.. thanks for the good video. I actually called the clutch smoked when I heard it screaming and no smoke coming out of the back tire..
It’s such a privilege to have the experts from the manufacture explain and help out. You are sharing the info directly from the horse’s mouth.
And yet there was still just a touch of Roadkill there with the disc grinding to the flywheel. 👍
Even setting that all up right, I'm sure you guys double checked the pedal free play. I've seen a few times with this exact failure that was all due to adjustment at the pedal. After driving for a while the slave would randomly just keep getting tighter and tighter. I finally clued in one time when I was not able to push the slave in, the master was in a position where it would not allow the fluid to bypass. Just sharing.
Had no idea Steven King had such knowledge of clutches. I heard there was a clutch horror book coming out in ‘24. Best seller for sure.
This was a great video! Your clutch guy is probably one of the best "explainers" I've seen. Very awesome and fun to watch! Thanks!!!
Clutch Dudes voice is Hilarious..Straight Legend!!
Knowing a transmission guy is always great!! Knowing EXPERT'S is Finnegan level!
That is the sweetest transmission ever... When standing on its end that is the true "Tower of Power"... 😅
Sixteen years old I was doing that with the flywheel, and I couldn't afford a new one. But in a pinch, you do what gotta do? GODSPEED
Wicked awesome episode. Clutch dude was perfect. Stoked to see muscle truck back out too!
Very impressed with the gearbox guy. Definitely knows what he's doing. I wouldn't dare touch it, I'm the guy that puts things back together and finds a couple of small leftover parts on the bench after installation.
This channel always features the best of the best! The master experts in their field👏
"I know we've just met, but stroke it a couple times" I totally lost my shit on that one, clutch guy is awesome!
Clutch guy has an awesome voice and smart funny as hell!!
The brains that engineered this kind of stuff are just phenomenal.
Clutch guy for the win, I could listen to him for hours!
I feel like the the dude from Mantic would be cool to hang with. Having said that, listening to both he and the other dude for the transmission was fun. Super knowledgeable.
Being the overthinker that i am, I think I learned alot about clutches just listening to him talk about the new one..
I could listen to clutch man all day.
Guy had me spit out my beer when He said i know i just met you but can ya stroke it a few times for me
"I may or may not know the guy that put this clutch together" I genuinely lost it at that, cool truck, awesome process and a lot to learn there!
Clutch Guy is the best, and he shall forever be known as Clutch Guy.
clutch guy has the best radio/podcast voice
Man it is very nice to have the factory guy service your trans... no worry required.. man makes it look easy
The clutch dude reminds me of Dr. Johnny Fever from WKRP in Cincinnati. His delivery and cadence. When you handed him the torque wrench and he said, thank you doctor, I legitimately LOL’d.
Hey Man, Thats really awesome! I remeber watching that show oddly enough...little young but you see where it got me!
Great video Mike , the clutch guy is a real character , too cool .
All the internet mechanics have an absolute fit if you take a grinder to a flywheel. And here we have an expert in the field doing just that.
Yes, we know it's not recommended, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
I feel about as smart as “Beavis and Butthead “ after watching that transmission rebuild! That man is a genius and definitely knows what he’s doing with that transmission!!! How does Finnegan like his clutches cooked? Apparently well done!
What a pro! That transmission fellow knows his onions.
Love the fact that when he removed the pressure plate, the clutch disc’s sear marks looked like rabbits!! 😂😂
Geez Mike, getting the transmission guy and the clutch guy to come to your house... It's like taking yourself to the Principal's office and turning yourself in...
"I know we just met but stroke it for me a few times" is something I didn't expect to hear, yet sure made me laugh!
Who knew radio dj's moonlight for performance clutch companies?
Clutch guy vibe is that rug tied the whole room together vibe. Hilarious. super cool people.
When my old man was a mechanic and something was giving him trouble, there would be a lot of cussing and he said, "You just gotta talk dirty to 'er and she'll do anything you want". Good ol' memories!
Can’t help but think this pick up build is the greatest!!!!!
Love all the projects your doing. Thank you for all the content it's all great.
It’s really amazing at the level of support you’re getting from these guys great customer service
Looks like a great episode! Hoping to learn more about how transmissions work.
There's nothing like seeing an expert at work, especially if they're as funny as Geoff. If he's tired of clutches, he can always become a comedian.
I like this clutch guy, he’s funny and not afraid to break the rules. Also, you sure know how to do a job on clutches Mike.
Love Rick's straightforward explanation and the detail of the safety wired shoulder bolt is a nice touch. Would love to see any more content with him. Geoff's overall demeanor and explanations are also appreciated.
That Mantic clutch guy could pursue a career in standup comedy without any problem! 😂😂😁😁🤘🤘
I always smile when I watch your videos. Thanks Mike!
Best thing to look forward to on sundays!
“I know we jus met but go ahead and stroke it for me” priceless commentary. I need a C/K-10 don’t matter which. Truck is so amazing.
Dude I lost it 😂when he said “I know we just met” 😂
Great episode mate. Always good to surround yourself with people who know and love what they do. And are just great people to. Cheers mate
Love that truck. Good stuff Mike, Keep it coming 👍
Great video and interesting tech. That transmission and the clutch are most impressive. Thanks.
Thanks for the inside look on the trans of my dreams. It's better knowing what I would hope for was worth the cost...and it was/is!
That is one damned impressive gearbox!!!
That truck is something of art for sure. It'd be one of them things where you just spend for ever at the gas station looking the truck over if I ever saw it in Person. It's super dope
Thank you for doing the drain plug safety cable correctly.
........Is it me, or does your friend from Mantic have the best damn radio voice ever.
Your buddy is great at transmissions. Enjoyed watching him work. Loved him on the Red Green show too 👍😏😎
Those are some REALLY nice components that you have! The connections you have are incredible! Good luck against the muscle truck! Keep up the great work 👍
Good to have experts on hand!
I've been working on transmission for 35-ish years,WOW that is fine work on the building and designing of that transmission like that.
Dude is the Bill Lombard of clutches!!!
That dude from Mantic better be on a podcast.. he has a serious radio voice.
Much as I love the muscle truck, Finn needs to kick it's ASS!!! This truck takes what I've wanted since I was a kid, and goes so far past it!
George has a slick radio DJ voice and some killer sarcasm. Love it.
Great video and lots of educational info! Thanks!
Geoff really came in clutch on this one.
Professional Tec's are awesome!!!! The dog was cool! Road course the snot!! out-of-that thing!!! ✌️
GREAT VIDEO MIKE !!! I LOVE LEARNING ABOUT MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LEARNED A LOT!!!1 THANKS FOR SHARING!!! YOU MADE MY NIGHT!!! I LOVE MY C10 FAMILY.
Clutch guy was a comedian 😂
i love that the most uttered sentence on car youtube is „you shouldnt do it like this“, closly followed by „this should work but its kinda sketch and /or dangerous“
I worked with Rick and Clay on engineering the laydown version of the 6XD. It is a great transmission; but compared to an 80lb EMCO, it was a pain in the ass to lift out through the window of a Trans Am car!
I like the Roadkill flywheel resurfacing.
Geoff's swagger is off the charts.
The muscle truck had the best sound hands down… However, I have definitely switched to yours being my favorite not only for the noise, but the entire package. Awesome truck
Always loved the C10 build.
Clutch guy is pure gold 😂
Congrats mate! This is one sick C10. If you find yourself up north-east during winter, we could stick a snow-plow in front and terrorize the residents of my neighbourhood in Montreal.
Just make the splitter out of steel lol
I forgot how much I love this trans
Awesome got her back up and going hopefully stronger than b4
The clutch guy reminds me of a doctor or something with the way he talks. He's great!
Love this truck. Hope to catch a show or event you have it at one day.
Great job
That clutch guy is cool as hell, makes me want to buy a Mantic clutch and my shitbox is nowhere near ready for a clutch right now
We see who Stacy David modeled himself after 😂. Clutch guy is legit.
Good luck this weekend Mike! Wish I could be there!
Cool truck Mike!
I have a 72 c10 s.b. I'm building.
Just found your CZcams channel so I subscribed and look forward to catching every episode.
Great Video!! So much details and technical knowledge! I’m fighting just to fix 4l80e to Dana 300 leaks on LS Swapped Scrambler. Swing on bye if you got time 😂
